Lmao at all the salty downvotes. It was a legitimate deal, not everyone gets one.

  • +4

Got one! After madly tapping my screen at the banner that didn't work, then decided to refresh after a few seconds and it worked seamlessly!

I often purchase GCs from SB so just swiped to pay as per usual with previous CC details already in the system.

    • so many people secured gift cards, but did not upvote the deal!

  • Good one SB! What a load of waste time!! There were probably only 10

    • +8

We did make it clear there were only 2,000 cards and they would sell out fast.
There were 4,000 customers on our Gift Cards screen at midnight.

      • Need .00001 second intervals to determine the first 2000 :D

What time was the first purchase and last?

        Curious to know.

      • +2

Next time make it $5 so all 4000 people get it who wake up until midnight… !

  • Got one yesss!

  • Payment Process error for me too first go then sold out!

  • Told that it was sold out in app but persisted a number of times and it finally worked.

  • -3

    thanks for nothing.

    • +1

It was a free Gift Card you missed out on.

      • And his time…

        • +1

They're capable of making their own decisions, no?
If they stayed up to get one, knowing it would sell out fast, is that not their decision?

          • -1

@gotyourback: Not when the problem wasnt they stayed up but the way the system was designed. It was a crap shoot with no queuing process and random traffic errors galore. There was no systematic approach or programming done.

  • +1

Got one, thank you ShopBack 😊

  • I even don’t see in my screen….at all, i was looking all time….lol

  • Yeah got it as soon as hit midnight.

  • +1

Hmm I wonder if this wins more customers or frustrates more customers?

  • Not even lag, quick swipe pay, wondered if anyone was trying until I came here

  • Said the app experience high traffic, then try again, sold out , waste of time

  • i guess OZB is too popular everyone is using it

  • +1

banner did not work straight away then it kept on erroring out then sold out, all gone at 12:01, why am i even surprised

  • Got one!

  • i managed to get one despite initial heavy load error and then trying again, and then having to enter phone verification! did not expect that!
Is cashback meant to be instantaneous because i dont' see it in my rewards

    • Wow you're definitely worthy of it after going through all that haha

    • Dude I am such a dumb person didn't even have my OTP verification number switched on Only got my OTP verification code and put in at like brink of stopping my transaction

  • +20

What a bunch of whingers giving negs.
There would have been way over 2000 people trying to purchase at the first second of being live of course it sold out instantly.
Lucky if you managed to get one, unfortunately I did not.

    • +6

The problem is it wasn't first-in-first-serve - more of a random lottery based on ShopBack servers. Some got multiple errors when trying to purchase. They might as well just made it a lottery, then people wouldn't so upset.

  • +1

Didn't expect to, but actually got one!

  • +1

    Got one!

  • -3

Seriously I couldn't keep my eyes open. Wake up and 12:04. 2,000 of these things and they sell in less than a minute…… Some desperados out there seriously.

    • +3

If you attempted to buy one yourself, does that make you a desperado too?

      • +1

I happened to be up at the time and noticed it on ozbargain. However if I saw it a lot earlier I wouldn't have waited up to save 15 bucks. Honestly some of the offers on this site that save 5 bucks on shop back get 1K up votes…… I can't understand how people can be bothered for that amount of money.

  • +2

Woohoo 😃 just notified with $15 cashback

  • +5

Sitting in my bed on my phone, fumbled around with the process but still managed to get one easily. Proof that you don't have to be a bot or on lightning fast internet. (25 mbps)

  • +1

    Tracked. Nice.

  • +1

    Scored one!

  • +6

Too easy. Love it how it's on midnight to remove the normies. Only the truly devoted deserve rewards.

    • +5

      9pm Perth makes it easy

  • Silly me expecting the promo gift card option to appear under the Promo tab with the other promo gift cards. Not near the top of the page separate from the other gift cards.

    ah well

  • +1

    yesss! scored one finally!

  • +1

I got one, but my gf had the "experiencing high traffic error", even though we clicked it at the same time.

  • +1

    got one thanks

  • -6

    Poorly advertised

    • +3

We anticipate these will sell out extremely fast, so be quick!

      Seems pretty clear

    • +6

can taste the salt from here

  • At least I got the $5 min for $5 cashback lol

  • Banner did not work

    • too late gone in 1 mins

  • +1

Got one & paid with my cashback, Thanks OP!

I can't possibly keep up with all these comments & negs.

To anyone who managed to nab one, enjoy & have a good one!

    • -1

Haven't read people negging availability. We're negging the fact that we were the first onto it with a non-functional banner and then multiple processing errors. Transactional atomicity please - we were either on time or too late. On time but error just sucks.

      • +2

You couldn’t get it but soo many others did. Not a technical error from SB. Just take the loss - bad luck, move on and have a good night.

      • +1

This is exactly right. It should be better programmed..so the first 2000 get through and once you are through your payment gets through. Not just a random mess of error messages and then some people get it and others are left thinking wtf.

    • +2

It's not the missing out that is getting you negs, it was to be expected that thered be a high volume of requests and an expectation of handling it.

Error messages, server busy and app banner unclickable makes for a poor experience.

    • No issue with T&C how many were available etc.

However, I tried to purchase 3 times before it was sold out - saved my card as you suggested etc.
Your systems failed due to transaction/processing errors .. hence the neg.

    • +2

It stated out of stock a number of times but It finally succeeded and I got the deal. Thank you gotyourback.

  • +1

    Got one, Thanks.

  • +2

It would have been fair game if SB had sold out but the banner didn't work for first few seconds. Finally when it worked, the payment went for processing and then generated heavy traffic error.

At least have better servers to handle traffic.

    • +1

Same thing happened to me. Tried a second time then got kicked out of the process cause it was out of stock

    • +2

@Ash-Say our app caches data and will typically take a few minutes to load things.
The fact that the link took 5-10 seconds to load isn't that bad.
I understand that this isn't ideal since the deal sold out in 30 seconds, but we did have 4,000 people camping the page.

We will try to do a higher quantity with lower values next time.
      Cheers!

  • Thank op. Got one

  • thanks op! got one.

  • lmao

    • +6

then why even turn up here?

      • +1

because ''Why'' is a crooked letter

    • +1

      don't care, ron

  • +2

Got payment error due to heavy traffic 3 times then sold out. Never again shopback

    • +2

I'm sorry you missed out. There were a lot of people waiting for the Free Gift Cards.
Not sure if that warrants a boycott of sorts?

  • Thanks, got one :-)

  • i saw it was gone in 2mins!!! good job ozbargainers!

  • Got one, didn't realise it would sold out in a minute!

  • Got one! I was lucky it popped up instantly after I refreshed the app.

  • Got one. Easy.

  • +1

I scored one. 9pm in Perth. Got the rest of the night to bathe in the $15 cashback milk.

  • +2

Banner wasn't clickable. Scrolled down to eBay gift cards - got an error on click.

  • Got one

  • +5

Couldn’t click the banner for quite some time, then payment failed due to heavy traffic few times, then sold out.
Honestly OP, I think if the offer was 6000 units of $5 eBay gift cards with 100% cashback, it would have made a lot more people happier.

    • +6

I actually said this to one of my colleagues.
I think we will do this next time so there are more available.

      • +2

Would just prolong the frustration over a longer period since your current infrastructure doesn't look like it can handle enough requests at once. Instead of queueing them it just fails (I had 2 heavy traffic failures, then sold out).

      • +1

how bout 30000 units of $1?

  • +3

Specifically came back here to see the aftermath because I knew there’d be negs galore lel

  • +1

Wth? I just got one this second. Reopened app, clicked on banner. Boom.

  • Wait what, I was able to purchase one just a few seconds ago?

    • think you did it wrong buddy

      • Nope, it was for 100% cashback. Some other people seem to have been able to as well.

    • Think you just purchased a regular gift card with no cashback.

      • I thought so at first too, but the $15 has already tracked back in my account. As you can see here it tracked at 2:20.

        • But how?

        • Wow yeah you're right. Nice!

    • Perhaps, someone bounced on their payment?

      • I'm not so sure, when I was able to purchase it I fumbled about for, give or take, 20 seconds inputting the purchase verification code and I thought it would've been taken by another person.

    • Did you try at first with no luck, then try again?

      • I admit, I was slow and didn't expect it to flash before my eyes. At the time I was reloading and looking for new challenges (appreciate the eBay challenge in relation to this offer) so as soon as I found the page it was sold out the next second. Twenty minutes later I was just messing about the app when I clicked back on the sold-out banner and was able to purchase one.
Here you can see how I completed the purchase at 12:21 AEDT and there's another screenshot I provided above showing how it was in fact the 100% cashback offer as it tracked almost immediately.
        Must've been black magic :^)

        • Black magic sounds about right, I'm so confused lol?!?!

  • Got one woooot

  • Thanks got one and Cashback tracked too!! That was fast.. I clicked real-time hard on the banner lol.. managed to get one in last few seconds!!
