    Added another 8gb ram..Loving it

    • how did you add another 8gb ram to the order?

      • +1

Bought a 8gb ram at Amazon and DIY

    • Nice! I recently bought one and will be looking to upgrade the ram. Do you know what Mhz it supports? Is it 2666?

      • +1

this thing works with DDR4-2933, just buy DDR4-3200 and you'll be good

        • if inside is a single 2933 8gb, should buy another 2933 8gb, or 2* 3200 8gb? thanks

  • +5

Not bad price and purchase HN gift card from Shopback app can get you another 7% off.

  • +22

Worth paying $89 more to get a much better CPU.

      i5-11400H is "much better"?

      • +4

2 more cores, higher clockspeed. 10nm process vs 14nm, expect to save power too.

        • in regards to gaming performance though, would we see much difference?

Like an extra few fps or something?

          • @bruc3: Given there is a reported ~30% difference between the two, I'd imagine it would also be noticeable for anything that tests the processor (i.e. newish game) or even switching between laborious applications.

          • @bruc3: Considering this is a FHD screen, you will likely see more in the 10's of fps, but this depends really on the type of game and how optimised it is. It will also help if you are running multiple things, like discord in the background, to avoid lag.

            • +1

@ATangk: thanks guys, it sounds like its worth to pay the extra $89.

        • Forfeit the RGB keyboard with this one if it matters. Edit it shows red but description says RGB so worth investigating

      • +4

I was going to tell you to just get the cheap i5-10300H model, but after doing a bit of research, I would say definitely pay the $89 extra for the i5-11400H.
The extra 2 cores will easily make it more future proof.

    • +3

      https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-i5-11400h-v…

There does look to be a reasonable difference between the two, averaging out at about 40%

    • totally so.

Picked this model up a few months ago. Great little machine. Just bought 16gb RAM for it, hopefully arrived soon.

  • +1

wow, looks like a really good price, tempted but got no money.

    • sell kidney.

  • +1

Get the 11400H - 4 cores is really not gonna be great in a few years to be honest

  • Finally something good to blow up Amex credit on

  • Will the i5-10300H bottleneck for games like Dota 2/ Apex legend / GTA V?

    • it would be the likely bottleneck for the machine, but would largely manage the task with relatively decent experience.

For longevity and not needing to be as meticulous with settings/backround apps, might be worthwhile checking out the model posted by @ruanjiangongren for $89 extra

    • Hey mate, I’ve run GTA V on mine on the highest settings and had good frame rates so far. The only thing to point out is the fan runs pretty loud which i lI guess is expected on these laptops

    • +1

lol Dota 2 is impossible to bottleneck… Valve knows what they are doing.

    • Nope. Not with these games at least.

Maybe if you try Cyberpunk then it'll bottleneck but thats just more intensive games.

  • -2

Why would anyone want to game on a laptop with 62% sRGB? Grey-scale screens should be reserved for budget laptops designed only for browsing and emails.

    • -2

Why would anyone want to game on a laptop screen fullstop is the question. It's easy enough to plug into an external monitor and keyboard and never even need to open up the laptop. Mine just sits under my monitor shelf and I've only ever used it's inbuilt screen a handful of times.

      • +2

If you only ever use it at your desk, then why even buy a laptop over a desktop? They run hotter, louder and have far more limited upgrade options.
The whole point of a laptop is mobility, so you won't always have a monitor with >=99% sRGB on hand.

        • It's great to have the option of portability when needed and also to have an inbuilt screen in case of external screen failure or to act as a secondary, but I really haven't needed portability as much as I thought I would when I bought it.

The other advantage of a laptop is generally lower power usage compared to desktop, much smaller form factor and also have an inbuilt UPS in the form of a battery.

Laptops also seem to be somewhat cheaper than a desktop equivalent when they come on special like this one (although very high spec laptop perhaps not so much).

That being said, I do miss the upgradeability of the desktops I've owned in the past. Gaming on a 15 or even 17 inch screen doesnt do much for me though when it's easy enough to connect to a larger external screen or TV.

  • +1

What's the RAM inside? single 8gb or dual 4gb? to upgrade to 16gb, so i only need to buy one 8gb ram? 2666 or 3200? thanks in advance

    • +1

      3200 c22 1x8gb

seems to only be running at 3000 though

      • thanks mate, looking one to order now

      • CPU limitations. Wont get above that

  • Hi people i just bought this one below. Would like your opinion. I will be upgrading RAM but looks alright to me?
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i7-11…

    • +2

      GTX1650 4GB

The GPU is several generation below this current deal. Would not recommend given that you can upgrade to RTX3060 6GB for ~$100.

    • +2

      3060is better

    • +1

Take it back and pay the extra 100 for a 3060

  • will you void the warranty if add more ram?

    • Acer give videos on their website how to do it, and it has info on expansion slots on the case, so unless you pried it open with a steel knife I doubt it. I have an Acer nitro, with a plastic spudger was super easy to install an extra ssd and no warranty tape etc to break.

  • +2

Not really a Black Friday special. They have been this price for a few months I believe. Family friend bought this very model about 6 weeks ago for this same price. Still…

  • +3

We're in the weird timeline where you would struggle to get the same specs in a desktop for that price.

Yes I know the parts aren't strictly equivalent.

    • Exactamundo.
Got rid of my desktop to 'upgrade' to a laptop, that will get used as a desktop……. Crazy times.

  • Can someone help me understand the difference between the Acer Nitro 5 15.6-inch i5-11400H/8GB/512GB SSD/RTX3060 6GB Gaming Laptop and Acer Nitro 5 15.6-inch i5-11400H/8GB/512GB SSD/RTX3060 6GB Gaming Laptop

They seem identical in spec but the above one is $10 cheaper BUT the “retail” price is only save $300 instead of $500 on this deal?

The reason I ask is because in store the laptop I linked seems to be a 11800H on the box (probably not a huge difference but if its identical $10 cheaper and a better processor, shouldn’t that be the deal everyone is going for?)

    • +3

The $1297 model has a Thunderbolt 4 port but it comes with a crap Kingston memory (ACR32D4S2S1ME-8).

The $1287 model has a data only type C port (No Display Port) but it comes with a good Samsung 1Rx8 memory (M471A1K43EB1-CWE).

I got the $1287 model (AN515-57-55R8) first and then returned it to HN and got the $1297 model (AN515-57-54ZA) instead.

      • Thanks for the info!

So in short they are identical excluding Ram and thunderbolt 4?

The $1297 model is better especially if your upgrading the RAM despite the “RRP saving” being greater on the $1287 model.

Did you manage to confirm if the processor is a 11800H in the $1297 model or is the website correct and the processors the same?

Also the model numbers you wrote are different to HN website, just to be clear can you give the model number or HN link the one you decided to keep?

        • Did you manage to confirm if the processor is a 11800H in the $1297 model or is the website correct and the processors the same?

It would be the 11400H. No way they'd put the 11800H in there for that price.

Also the model numbers you wrote are different to HN website, just to be clear can you give the model number or HN link the one you decided to keep?

They're correct as listed in the specifications tab on the HN website.

          • @CVonC: Yeah thats an i7 processor correct?

I don’t want that because it would have the power draw issue from the GPU that I have seen people comment about on here.

i5 model is better because the 95w BIOS update seems to get a better balance of power distribution to the CPU and GPU.

But the box says 11800H so it must be a typo?

Thanks for the clarification to look at the specs tab, I was looking at the numbers just under the heading, opps.

            • @yacman:

I don’t want that because it would have the power draw issue from the GPU that I have seen people comment about on here.

Can't you just manually limit the power using XTU?

I was looking at the numbers just under the heading, opps.

Yeah those numbers are annoying. It's like a variant of a variant.

        • +1

There is 2 $1287 models. The i7 model comes with RTX 3050 instead of 3060.

          i7-11800H with RTX 3050
          https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i7-11…

          i5-11400H with RTX 3060 (No Thurderbolt 4)
          https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-11…

          • @ruanjiangongren: I know that only makes it more confusing but I am saying that the HN sticker on the box of the $1297 model says the processor is a 11800H with a 3060.

I am fairly sure this is a typo but since you purchased the $1297 model can you check your hardware spec? (And sticker if you still have the box).

Only want to know because from what I understand the i7 isn’t as suitable for gaming.

      • now I am totally confused, do you mind just linking me the HN page of the superior product you choose? Thank you

      • Have you been able to confirm that the $1297 model is with Thunderbolt while the other model doesn't? Exactly how do you tell if both ports have the thunderbolt logo beside it? Manual sheet? Thunderbolt peripheral connection test?

        • @ruanjiangongren owns one so he can explain to you but the closest I have gotten to confirmation is a google search of the model number AN515-57-54ZA, it is listed on scoptec’s website for sale (for much more expensive) and says it has thunderbolt 4.

It also matches HN website in saying the processor is a 11400H.

          • @yacman: My brother bought the $1287 model (55R8) and on the Usb C port there is no thunderbolt logo. Also, the HN salesperson told him that the $1287 model is "newer" but didnt specify anything else being different (yes specs exactly the same). I believe the other model has the thunderbolt logo though, but this is still no guarantee if the port has Thunderbolt or not unless someone tests it out. @ruanjiangongren can you confirm anything?

            • @Romiyo: $1297 model has the Thunderbolt logo, Intel Thunderbolt Control Center reports Thunderbolt Gen 4 (9A1F)

              • @dstreefkerk: He should probably swap it out then. A little bit stupid that there are such small varients in models, especially how HN sold him a model they called "newer".

        • The $1297 model does have a thunderbolt icon beside the Type-C port. The $1287 model only has a normal USB icon.

      • Can confirm that the $1297 model does indeed come with that Kingston RAM. Just opened mine up to take a look.

I'm swapping it out anyway, so suits me fine.

CPU is i5-11400H, GPU is RTX3060

        • Thanks for the confirmation, to make it easy for everyone in summary if your swapping out the RAM spend an extra $10 and future proof with thunderbolt 4

    • Max processor speed appears to be slightly different in the HN specs page, 4.50ghz vs 4.60ghz on the dearer model.

  • Paid $1287 however, was given the $1297 version upon collecting :)

    • From my last comment I think if you are doing a RAM upgrade then you got a better model, just surprised thats not the deal everyone is going for?

  • I don't like the red lights of the $1297/$1287 models

is there a way to change colours? Thanks

    • I believe they are all 4 zone RGB but I do not have one so hopefully someone who has one can confirm.

The product listing on the $1287 model definitely shows RGB

      • $1297 model (NH.QDGSA.002) is RGB too. 4 zone, customisable. Writing this message using mine, bought it yesterday

  • I need to choose something ASAP but am totally confused.

Are these any better than the ACERs above?

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hp-238-inches-8gb-512gb-ssd-a…

    or this https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hp-pavilion-156-inches-laptop…

Can you please point me at which one is better? I like the all in one but am concerned it may overheat.

Anything I buy will be always on a desk but don't want a desktop, cheers.

    • Both are worse.

  • Hi all. Sorry for highjacking this post re the i5 10300 but I see there's conversation around the i5 11400 models. Can any of you do me a favour if you have bought either the $1297 or $1287 Nitro 5 i5 11400 RTX3060 from Harveys. Can you check the device details and Id in Device Manager (Monitor) for me please. Just wanting to know what screen is on both of these models. No joy trying to get the info from either Harveys or Acer

    • Hi there, bought the $1297 model yesterday after trying to figure out the difference between the models on the website and in-store with the sales dude. Couldn't tell the difference from their inventory system either.

Device manager hardware ID for the monitor: MONITOR\CMN1521

Native res is FHD @ 144Hz

On the ACER website, details are as follows:
      Model Name: AN515-57
      Part Number: NH.QDGSA.002

      • Thanks dstreefkerk, looks like it has a fairly low grade panel. Can't expect too much for the price hey. At least it will beat the 8 yr old Acer V7 that my husbands currently using

        • Yeah, bought mine for my daughter. She's chuffed with it, and it'll run the games she wants to play just fine.

It's pretty snappy for general usage, although I'm going to swap the 8GB of Kingston RAM out for 16GB of something better.

        • The panel is just fine unless you expect the oled colours
