Yamaha YAS-109 Soundbar deal, grey only, Amazon AU, you know the drill.

Not the cheapest ever I'm sure, but watched the recent black Friday and cyber Monday deals and didn't spot much in this price range.

With any sound bar, you seriously need a subwoofer. I had a similar YAS-xxx model. Can't remember which one. I returned it. It was only marginally better than my TV speakers.

    • what about soundbars with subwoofers built in? Are they any good?

      • I'm no audiophile but I noticed a good improvement. I had a 65" Sony X900H and after a while I got a Sony HT-X8500. Has a built in sub and it definitely made an impact. My wife didn't want a "big ugly black box" in the lounge room so this was a good compromise. They definitely improve the whole experience but obviously would be better with a dedicated sub. Depends how big your room is as well. Our lounge room is quite small.

        • Obviously haha, no audiophile would buy the majority of soundbars!

          • @onlinepred: Yeah that's true. I just didn't want the dude to buy one with a built in sub thinking he was going to get blown away with the sound haha. Still better than built in tv speakers

      • No where near as good as a separate sub.

I've got one of the previous model of this, with a sub it's pretty good on that TV

    • I bought the black version of this one a few weeks back and although it's fine for our second TV, I'd agree it does miss the proper bass channel. I picked up one of the Voll subwoofers this week on special so I will be pairing it with that.

These are still a heap better than your tv's sound, even without a subwoofer (which is an cheap upgrade down the track).

This model seems to actually make voices clearer even though it doesn't have a centre channel.

  • I wouldn’t get a subwoofer for this, it sounds silly. I’ve tried it, external bass will just overpower it; I have a prior model. Actually dropped it when moving, and one of the tweeters went weird, but with use it went back normal. It’s lasted now for over 2 years, pretty happy with it
