    • NEVER! (p.s. I'm a UNI student and I have office + w7u, both legit already)
You guys get all the cheap booze :(

    • with the way ted baillieu is cutting the budget, i doubt we'll get it

  • Woohoo! My looks like my TAFE education finally had some use after all.

(No offense to any TAFE teachers who might be reading this)

    • +5

I take it there are at least 2 TAFE teachers here.

Not bagging teachers out, they are a much needed occupation in Australia given the skills shortage, I'm just reminiscing the time I wasted studying a useless TAFE course.

    • +5

What you enrolled in … 'Flower Arrangement 1:01'? ;-)

      • I got this offer to upgrade my old windows xp PC.
I completed a cert 2 in administration. lolz!

  • is there a way to inject the key into a currently running win7?
Thus we don't need to reinstall our os, or install one of the older OS, then upgrade etc..

    • +2

Run Command prompt in Administrator mode first, by going to start menu and typing in CMD and right clicking the CMD.exe and choosing "Run as Administrator"

      In the CMD window, type:
      slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>
To activate windows after changing the key, type:
      slmgr.vbs -ato

This will effectively change your product key (and can be used to convert your illegal copy of Windows to a legal one). However, the version has to match — if you have Ultimate or Home Premium, then the key won't work.

      • thanks

        I will give it ago..

Is this the method you will do with your windows 7 key as well?

I not really in the mood to do another installation..

        ==

So if we install these OS again, we need to first install
XP, vista, or win 7 home? then upgrade?

Do u know if there is a hack to do a proper full installation without needing another OS?

      • So i need to download the installer according to the guide etc..?

I guess I don't to need to get the iso again cos I got a full installation of window 7 already before this and I just inject the proper keys there?

btw this key is only good for one pc?
I have 2 pc, would love to put win 7 on both

        • Have you changed the product key yet? Did it work? If it works, then you're OK.

If the Key does not work, then you need to reinstall Windows using the downloaded ISO file.

And yes — One key per computer only.

        • hmm
i did not inject the keys yet
let me know if it works..

is this the method u are gonna do? or u doing a clean install?

I am not in the mood for a long new installation and reinstalling all my apps/config again

if the inject key method does not work, then I will just leave as it is, until win 7 has a unrecoverable issue or when i think it is time for a fresh installation..
but so far windows 7 has been going good.

          ==
One key per computer is pretty limiting..
I guess the second pc, will be windows 7 professional (also free to download/purchase)

I TRIED THE ABOVE BUT IT DIDNT WORK

IT just says it is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program,or batch file

        • thanks it works

don't need to waste time reinstalling..

btw you should open restore WAT if u have previously removed it
else you won't be able to install security essentials

      • Worked perfectly. Thanks. :D

    • +2

LOL bloody pirates trying to be legit.

  • So any idea if this will come to Victoria?

    • +1

sorry, u are asking us, and who should we ask?
      better u email them directly..

  • btw
how do u guys/gals think this offer is getting paid for?

is the gov paying for it?

      • +1

until recently the NSW Director-General of Education is a convicted Crim

Until recently, huh? What happened, was he unconvicted? :)

      • You do know until recently the NSW Director-General of Education is a convicted Crim, right!? ;-)

And this is relevant to this offer because ……?

Is this where tax-payers money is going!?
      MICROSOFT!?
Unis get hit with some students amenities fee, while primary and high schools get free stuff?
      Rage at Barry O'farrell!

  • +2

Thanks. My child in Y6 got the email and successfully dowloaded both Windows 7 and Office…

  • Thanks jimjones, got a copy of win7 ultimate :)

  • how to unpack .SDC files?
    they download as .sdc

    English_Office_Professional_Plus_2010_W64.sdc

  • firstly thanks to the OP! Can anyone tell me if i need to download this through the site or can i just use the keys it has given me and download windows elsewhere because the Secure download manager keeps telling me it has an error and to try again when i click on it to start?? Any help would be great… cheers

    • Can download ISO from anywhere and it will work.

  • Thanks OP for the post.

I doubt though - is this licence perpetual or stops after a period of time. Just trying to understand how and why MS is giving away freely - even if its to student. Usually have seen discounted one. Hope there is no catch here. Trying to download all the required ones…. :)

    • It's perpetual and there is no catch. The NSW DEC have an enterprise agreement with Microsoft.

  • +3

Oh look my DET email is still active. Geez it gets disabled tomorrow if I'm not mistaken.

  • +2

My 10 year old tafe account is still working :)

  • Tyvm :)

  • How many PC can I install the Microsoft Student Office?

    • One per Key

  • +1

So students get it for free, whilst DEC teachers have to pay $40 + p/h :(

    • +2

      teachers make more than students

  • thanks jim jones

this is one of the best post in a long time

  • so win7 pro and win7 ultimate will work on one machine each, so two machines all together?

    thanks

  • +2

Wow, Office 2010 Pro Plus, that's the good one too, not just crappy old Home and Student edition. Time to get in contact with some nieces and nephews…

  • +1

hmmmm….. i live near the NSW border. I might wander over, enrol for a first aid course $60 and get my email address, first aid cert plus the software. WIN! (maybe lol…. have to wait and see if they give you an email address)

    • +1

Where do you get a first aid course for $60?

  • students.mq.edu.au not working

    • Tafe + Highschool/primaryschool kids only.

    • FAIL

    • Michegianni go ask professor Schwartz whats going on.

      • He's too busy trying to cut salaries for staff

        (<— not a staff member)

  • Think I'll take some credit… I'd just gotten LibreOffice to format my assignments correctly, so I don't really need MSO anymore. Must be scared of losing me as a customer.

PS The Mac Office is the same as you get from the MS trials web site, so if you don't like the SecureDownloadManager, you can get it direct.

  • does the one activation key work for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows? Or is it once I install say 32 bit it won't work again for 64 bit?

    • They are one and the same. The activation key works for either copy. The simple rule is that you cannot have 2 copies of Windows installed on 2 different computers though.

  • Is this a trial version for 31 days?

If you look at the "How to Guide" on the Sigroup website it talks about 31 days access in the checkout box and paying for 24 months access?

Has anyone confirmed it is entirely free full version????

    • +1

Link to download is for 31 days, can be upgraded to 24 mnths for money
The key for the program is not limited by time
So just download it within 31 days and burn it for later

  • Signup page now shows:

We're sorry. Products have been removed temporarily.

  • Products have been removed, no longer works

    • You sure? I am downloading it now. Oh unless you have not registered yet.

  • Got 2 kids at school. Downloaded 2 sets of everything. Win.

  • "We're sorry. Products have been removed temporarily."

  • yeah, because some people obviously lack the comprehension skills to understand the requirement that they needed either a @education.nsw.gov.au OR @tafensw.net.au email address to be eligible and generating extra traffic that it prob got removed and unavailable for those that are genuinely eligible

  • Unavailable. Noo. There goes my dad's free computer upgrade and yes he's employed by the DEC. Stupid uni students asking for legibility sigh.

    • +1

What balls. Whilst I paid for my Office 2010, this would've been good for my younger brother who's still in school.

    • +1

Stupid uni students asking for legibility sigh.

      Calling uni students Stupid?
The cause of it being removed doesn't even state its due to uni kids.
What's with people blaming the removal of the offer on uni kids for, you guys didn't make it or something?
Why didn't you blame the guy who asked for yahoo.com to be added?

The title really should be labelled "For Non-Uni students", because that's basically the only students in NSW that aren't in TAFE or High/primary school.

      • will it be coming back soon? i need this.

        • What do you need mate? Contact me with my contact form :)

        • dang.. kinda annoyed i missed out.. looks like they took the offer down. i've even got an @tafensw.net.au email address from last year…

  • My son studying in Kindy has just got @education.nsw.gov.au email address, i have successfully registered and have now installed Windows 7 Pro 32 biton 1 PC as a fresh install, It did not ask me for any previous versions for upgrade.

  • well it's only removed temporarily right?

  • +2

Amazing so many Uni students surprised their Uni e-mail addresses don't work. How did they ever get into Uni?

    • +2

Because some uni students don't know what DEC is? Some may be international students.
If you didn't see the DEC note or the note added by the mods, the title does not suggest that university "students" would not qualify for the freebie.
I've never even heard of "DEC" before, I've always known it to be DET back when I was in highschool.

    Dupe.

  • +5

I just emailed them and this was their reply:

"Due to internal problems the offer has been withdrawn.

Microsoft and the Department are working on another offer that will be offered through our website as soon as possible."

  • Can someone please tell me how to download this?

When I click on the link/pic thing it just says "Coming Soon".

    • +1

read the post above would be a good start

  • +1

Maybe SI Group ran out of give-away licenses. Bet they didn't anticipate the collective power of ozbargainers.

  • DAMN why didnt i download all of them…..

    • Did they stop the downloads?

    • +2

The Windows 7 ISO images can be found everywhere on the net… you just have to google.
      Example: http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-dow…
These links are all legit and they point to Digital River which is essentially Microsoft's product reseller.

The installation files for MS Office is a little harder to source, but you can probably find someone with a MSDN account to download the image and pass it to you. Or you can try a trial version and see if it can be activated with your keys.
      http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/try/

      • hey, thanks. is there any way to get the keys from the site? i still need the keys.

will this offer be coming back?

        • s there any way to get the keys from the site? i still need the keys.

Yes. Go to your email and look at the Receipt.

          It should read:

          Dear YOUR NAME,

Thank you for your order. You may now download the items you have ordered by visiting the following link.

Full details, including any required serial numbers and activation codes, are always available online in Your Account at:

          http://e5.onthehub.com/d.ashx?s=xxxxxxxxx

Obviously, the site will not keep your keys and download link online indefinitely. So screenshot or print the entire webpage if you must, otherwise you will lose the keys forever.

        • ok thanks scrimshaw. i missed out on the offer though. is it possible for me to get the keys still?

will the site be coming back online?

        • If you never made an account, and never made the orders, then no, it's not possible to retrieve any keys or add anything to the cart at this time.

is it possible for me to get the keys still? will the site be coming back online?

Don't ask me… ask the men in charge.

  • i just emailed them, as im a legit TAFE student, and the person claimed there had NEVER been any licenses on offer, and directed me to a 'slightly' discounted page of MS software.
What a wanker….really needed office. Pity i hadn't seen this post earlier
    Bogus

    • You can message me in private i can probably help you. Thanks

  • email them and they say the offer for free download has been removed by Microsoft and the Department.

    missed the offer

  • USyd here, I emailed ICT support and asked about MSDNAA and they then added me to dreamspark premium. No office 10 though :(

  • im doing software dev. in victoria, and i get jack shit :(

  • Seems expired?

  • will it be coming back?

  • Everyone who downloaded Win 7, Office (Win & Mac) you saved $768! They're now offering that software for NOT free!

    • Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade only) License & DVD - $399.00 inc GST
    • Office Home and Student 2010 32-bit &64 bit License & DVD - $190.00 inc GST
    • Office Mac Standard Home Student 2011 License & DVD - $179.00 inc GST

    What a bargain!

The linked page is now updated to:

Currently no Microsoft DEC Student Education Software can be downloaded from this site.

Please visit the NSW DEC shop for your education software (boxed product)- click below..

NSW DEC Students Education software (http://www.sigroup.com.au/soon.html)

I've got a feeling that the SI Group might be hurting financially after this stuff up!

    • sigh.

so it won't be coming back? it would've been great if i even just got one key.

    • Those prices are ridiculous lol. Windows 7 Upgrade Pro is $119 from the official Microsoft store (for students) and Office for Windows and Mac is $99.

Real saving is actually $119 + 99 + 99 = $317 if you took advantage of SI Groups offer.

      • is that the cheapest price for office for mac?
