Suncorp Clear Options Platinum Credit Card: 130,000 Bonus Points after $3,000 Spend within 90 Days of Approval, $129 Annual Fee

1980

$511 of profit after meeting spend requirements

The details:
130,000 points
$129 p.a. annual fee
$6,000 min limit
1.25 points per dollar
Spend $3,000 in 90 days
New customers (no Suncorp credit card in the past 12 months)
Offer Expires 31/08/22

Suncorp has increased the bonus from 100k to 130k but has removed the half price first year annual fee. However, you actually end up with a bigger profit (from $426 to $511) because it's easier to cash out your points fully for woolies gift cards.

If redeeming for gift cards:
$500 x 1, $100 x 1, $20 x 2 in Woolworths gift cards, $640 total, with 250 points remaining.
$500 x 1, $100 x 1 in Coles gift cards, $600 total, with 8,650 points remaining.

Will be slightly less profit if you redeem for transaction credit.

            • @Kramo: Thanks all.
My card got approved 20th Jan, I hit the spend on the 4th (all transactions cleared). No bonus points yet (just the normal points).
I'll update my post when my points come in.

  • Does anyone have Suncorp's biller code for paying credit card?

    • Does it in the statement?

    • 999532

  • finally got my card after 1.5 months of being approved

    • Wow!! What has happened? Something wemt missing at Suncorp?

  • My apartment complex lets me book a cinema for a $100 bond. I assume this wouldn't count as spending as it gets refunded to the card eventually…?

    • Does the transaction post on the statement or is it forever pending?

    • I doubt it would count as it will be refunded

  • +1

Called them today…. generic statement or not but the guy said they will be looked at after 3 months then it will take up to 60 days to get the points….. way to make me never to use Suncorp CC again.

    • So after the 90 days and not once you meet the min spend, and then possibly another 2 months? Far out that's quite annoying, was hoping to get the points and then cancel so I have less accounts open when I apply for the NAB card but I guess that ain’t happening.

      • +3

I got my points immediately after 1st statement.

Redeemed WoW giftcards and have sent request for account close today.

        • Cheers, looks like my next statement period literally finishes today so hopefully i'll get them next week.

        • Are the gift cards physical cards or egift cards? How long did it take for you to receive them?

  • Yup… just got my CBA Cashback…. 8 days in total…. Even before statement is paid. Goes to show why these two banks are in different leagues.

  • +3

Got my 2nd statement this morning, no bonus points yet. There goes my Kris Gold…

    • :(. Have you tried calling Suncorp/Citi? Maybe check every couple of days to see if it hits your account

      • Yeah, I do keep checking my account every now & then, but have given up on calling as you always get the same scripted response.
Hope this offer gets extended by a month or so.

        • Any luck yet? My second statement was also on the 12th but nothing for me

          • +1

@Chickenleg: Naah. It seems to be pretty random.
I gave them a call and as expected got the scripted response to wait for 90 days.
Confirmed that I met the min spend back in Dec, but have to wait.

            • @maverick1: I'm in the same boat. Two statements in, spending threshold met… no bonus points.

              • +2

@j4ck: I checked again just now, and the points have arrived.

    • Same here, just received 2nd statement this morning, still no bonus points yet.

      • I received my first statement today, no mention of bonus points on statement.

        • +1

Update: I just checked again, and all my bonus points have arrived.

Similar experience to j4ck where I got statement in the morning (my 1st one) and points arrived in the afternoon.

          • @eastmeetswests: I just received my first statement and met the spend criteria. No bonus points on the statements or when I login and check the rewards portal. Hopefully it comes in a few days, or next statement.

            • @axus350: I messaged Suncorp and their response was:
The bonus points will be applied within 6-8 weeks from meeting the spend hurdle when you spend $3000 or more on eligible transactions within 90 days from approval.

              • @AhOysta: Wonder how so many people are getting their bonuses so quick. It's like they're just allocating them to random accounts.

                • @Chickenleg: Have you checked all your spend is elligible?

Have you checked that for every dollar that you spent, there is 1.25 points worth? If it's 3k elligible spend, there should be minimum 3750 in your account.

                  • @eastmeetswests: I'm on my second statement and currently have 10466 points. My first statement back in January i earned 3877 points.

Every dollar spent on eligible transactions.

                  • @eastmeetswests: Likewise, I currently have Reward Points Balance: 4,665 which was met in early January.
                    No choice but to wait.

          • @eastmeetswests: Where do you check for your bonus points?

  • +3

Got the bonus points on the same day my first statement was issued.

    • My statement didn't have the bonus points listed on it but a few days later the bonus points shown up on the rewards page though the processed date was the same date my first statement was issued. Can confirm that Beem It and Afterpay transactions were eligible transactions.

  • New customers (no Suncorp credit card in the past 12 months)

I don't see this clause in the T&Cs, am I missing something?

Only found this: "Terms and conditions, fees and charges apply and are available on request. Existing Suncorp Bank Credit Cardholders are not eligible to apply for introductory offers. Introductory credit card offers are not available in conjunction with a Home Package Plus package. Should you choose to take up an introductory offer an Annual Card fee will apply.

  • Can you get the pro-rata annual fee back when you close the account?

    • +1

Nope. Already asked them after i closed the CC and they said no.

  • Two statements in, still nothing, and I just realised i met my minimum spend in the first statement. Cmoooon Suncorp.

  • Can't work out the OP's math.
    1x $500 Woolies card = 104,200 points
    1x $100 Woolies card = 20,900 points
    1x $20 Woolies card = 4,200 points
= $620 Woolies cards for 129,300 points (700 left over).
Is my maths bad? How does OP get $640 and 250 points left over?

Edit: Catalogue link for reference: https://rewards.suncorpbankrewards.com.au/ui/Search.html?key…

    • +1

I factored in that you have to spend $3000 to get the bonus. 3000 * 1.25 = 3,750 points. 3,750 + your 700 left over, gives you enough for another $20 gift card, with 250 points left.

      • Got it! Thanks, makes sense.
… Now the waiting game begins to get the points. Suncorp said the promotion period has to close (end of March) and then they look at who's qualified for bonus points.

  • Applied one week ago, uploaded docs straight away, still not sure if I am approved (if I check my application status it says "lblApplicationStatusCode_165", oops some programmer :P). Time to call?

    • Applied 15 Feb, approved 22 Feb (after a call to hurry them up), still waiting for the card to arrive…long turnaround.

    • Hi, have you been approved? I'm having the same code.

  • +1

Met the spend on the 2nd statement but statement didn't show any bonus points earned.

However, I logged into the Rewards page online a few days after receiving 2nd statement and 130k bonus points were there!

  • Applied 20 December 2021, still waiting for points so they definitely make you hold out the 90 days.

On that note I just called late at night and had a lovely Australian lady answer so their customer service is great.

  • Suncorp’s banking system is really weird and backward.

Pending transaction’s detail would disappear after one day. Additional card’s transaction won’t show up until it’s processed.

    • It is. So hard to find your points balance as well, which is managed via a seperate site. Looks like a website from the 90s.

    • Credit card platform is provided by Citi.

  • Guess i got lucky .. my points appeared after 1st statement

  • 3rd Statement issued and no bonus points yet on the statement. Checked my rewards account just incase nothing there either.
Met min spend in the 1st month, back in Dec 2021.

    • Yep, same for me. Pretty damn annoying. Get the feeling I’m going to have to chase them up when the 90 days hit.

      • +1

        Same. Worst card so far.

    • Agree. The website clearly says the points will be credited within 6-8 weeks of the spend requirement being reached. 8 weeks has now passed and I called to chase up. The guy said it will come through in the next statement period, which is another 4 weeks away. I asked for this to be escalated and he said the escalations team is currently out at lunch and return calls within 4 business days. Hopeless.

      • FFS, so i'm probably going to have to wait until my 4th statement in mid April. Really frustrating seeing as they've clearly been crediting other people that have met the min spend after their 1st statement!

        • Have you checked the internet banking rewards portal to see your points status? As someone has mentioned before, you should have at least 3,750 points to hit the min spend of $3k.You might be surprised with the bonus points.

Some people have reported that while the bonus didn't show up on their latest statement, when the checked the online portal - it was credited. I can confirm this was also the case with me. My statement came today (even though it technically ends on the 20th) and I hit the min spend; no points on statement but credited in the portal.

        • I find this happens a lot with any of the banks. Everything except amex.

          • @freestyle18: Still waiting nearly 4 months…. called last week said it would be sorted in 5 days……. BTW: commbank pays out even before statement, they are #1 for me and Suncorp is now last. Really sadge.

            • +1

@basketcase86: reminds me how I got stuck when I was with HSBC. Took over 3 months as well past meeting the min spend

  • Lol, got denied! Some you win, some you lose.

  • I've had a bad history with citi but here goes nothing. holding 9k of credit cards atm of applying..

    • approved for 6k credit.

  • If I get approved for this card, can I buy gift cards from the supermarket or from Suncorp and they count as an eligible transaction to meet the $3k spending requirements?

  • Not gonna lie, never ever getting a Suncorp card again. This has been the worst experience lol

  • worst experience applying for this card. some offshore person called me, and asked for my details without providing ways for me to verify she is from suncorp. Then called my office trying to verify employment, obviously not knowing the privacy law here. Terrible scammer like operation

Card was approved, but left a bad taste. Will cancel shortly after receiving my points

    • Good luck getting points in the stated time. Maybe I should ask for more points?

      • you mean they are not prompt with issuance of points as well?

        • Worst I've dealt with. (cba, anz, Citi, st George)

    • Will cancel shortly after receiving my points

Is there ever an alternative option?

  • +1

Reached my required early January, finally saw my points in my account today, 30/03.

    • Call them. This was my third call…. received the points a couple hours later. Not sure why it took so long…. anyways I went to get my Woolworthes vouchers….. "error processing"…… ill try again tomorrow. Sadge again.

      • Yes, I got the same error with trying to redeem the Woolworths vouchers as well.

        • Maybe none left?

        • Try now mate… worked. Maybe it was still showing less points in their backend.

    • Well I’ll be… just checked again and finally have my bonus too. Now have 147000 points total from waiting so long.

      • +1

Poor form from a OzBargainer to spend 1c more than required. :D

        • Haha, maybe that was their ploy all this time

  • Me & my partner must be lucky. Each of us applied the card separately and done with the spending within first month. We've got our bonus points day after the first statement.

    • Same, I'm not sure why people would have had such a varying experience. I was a suncorp customer and already had an account prior to applying for this credit card.

Not sure if that means that the points were received sooner. Waiting the full 3 months for bonus points would defintely have made me less likely to apply for this card.

signup bonus finally credited on 01st Apr, met the min spend back in Dec 2021.

    • quite a wait. What is the reward URL? Can't seem to find it in my app? Thanks

      • +1

Not sure mate. I usually access it via online banking>card services.

  • Also finally got the bonus points. Had to message them to tell them the 90 days since meeting the spend threshold was well and truly over. Got it then within 24h.

  • Just received bonus points on third statement. No mention of the bonus in the statement but in the rewards portal they are all there.

  • Just got email ..

PURCHASING OF EGIFT CARDS ENDS ON 18 MAY 2022*.
    Hi Nobby,
Suncorp Benefits is being replaced with a new rewards program. You can continue to use Suncorp Benefits to purchase eGift cards and use eWallet funds until 18 May 2022*. After this date, you will not be able to purchase eGift cards and previously purchased gift cards will have a ‘view only’ access until the new program starts. Any funds remaining on eGift cards or existing funds in your eWallet will not rollover to the new rewards program.

    • Did they elaborate on the new program?

      • i tried redeeming it with e vouchers before 18th may but it doesnt work. Got all the call voice recording from the agents saying they couldnt help so im speaking to manager today (19th May) to see whats up

  • You have to opt in to Qantas Program ($49) if you want 130K Qantas points as bonus yea?

  • The sign up process is so bad, almost as bad as HSBC one. Lots of bugs and errors not fixed by the programmers, bad design in the first place. Who now still allows only yearly and monthly but not fortnightly pay amount, and when the only options to provide company contact number is state code like 02, 03 etc.. What if your company has 1300 or 1800 HR number? And why limit document upload at only 3 documents per time? and Now the upload document page is not even working. What a failure.

  • was offered 5000 bonus points on top of sign up bonus if uploading my docs with 24 hrs. They didn't receive the first lot i uploaded for whatever reason so was happy with the extra comp.
now to see if they pay it.

  • What's the bonus it opt to qantas points? Still 130k?

  • I applied for this card got approved. My intro letter, app, and internet banking all shows Platinum credit card, but the physical card i received is not the BLACK clear options PLATINUM credit card but a GREEN/TUQOISE Clear Options STANDARD credit card. Should I be concered that they won't honor the sign up bonus? Has anyone else who applied get the STANDARD card instead of the PLATINUM card?

    • Call suncorp to clarify

    • +1
