But we're not in May anymore.

        • They were the same price in June. Pretty sure you can find a lower price if you dig further.

        • +7

That's fair, however, this is still considered a "good deal" considering the new prices. It's unfair to complain that OP didn't post a good deal when the issue you're having is with IKEA making a price increase.

40 people have upvoted this deal so far with 0 negs. People in the comments are happy about the deal too. "Sorry OP, this isn't a good deal." without any further context about the price inflation just seems a bit rude…

    • +6

Hopefully you bought enough LADDA's to power your time machine so you can go back to May and buy more.

  • Where are they located at Tempe store Sydney? I was there but couldnt find them.

    • Ground floor in the lighting section

  • Annoyed they stopped selling the 2450s at this price

    • -1

The new 2450mah were $10 back in May.

      • They are $12 at the moment in Canberra and I got the lower amphour ones becaue they are just going in Christmas toys

      • MAYbe, can ask IKEA to sell for the price that was in May.

  • Wouldn't this be better? Higher capacity and pay a little extra

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/ladda-rechargeable-battery-hr06…

    • +3

Depends what you use it for. I'll grab a pack to put in remotes and free up higher capacity ones for high drain applications.

      • Which capacity is suitable for Nintendo Wii remotes.

And recommendation for a smart charger?

        • i just bought the envelop 4 AA batteries that came with a charger and works great for ikea batteries too. it fits both aa and aaa.

          • +4

@Hugh G Rection: Don't use the chargers that come with eneloops or the ones Ikea sells, they're garbage.

Litokala or nitecore for budget chargers. Maha, opus or skyrc for top end chargers

I refer to this website for charger reviews. Find a charger in your budget from those brands suggested and have a look at the review.

            • +1

@krisspy: there is always going to be better, but what makes those ones so special? i have been using my eneloop charger with no problems.

              • @Hugh G Rection: Smart vs dumb chargers. Trickle charging on dumb chargers which isn't too good for LSD batteries. Charge curves, how well it detects dying batteries.

                • @krisspy: so the better ones automatically stop when the battery is full? i never leave in my batteries, but if i do my eneloop charger has an auto shutoff, so it won't overcharge it.

                  • @Hugh G Rection: Is it a timer shut off? Does it know to stop charging when 1 battery is full and the other isn't? Is it draining the battery when it shuts down?

I mean you can get by with those chargers fine but you'll most likely get less life on your batteries. I've had a maha charger for ages and still have eneloops on rotation from long before they became OzB currency.

            • +1

@krisspy: The current range of Ikea chargers are not good. Additionally, most Panasonic chargers included with Eneloop batteries aren't very good. However! There are a few Panasonic models that are good (eg. BQ-CC55).

I also refer to that website and it recommends model BQ-CC55 for NiMH batteries like the LADDA and Eneloop. As a "bonus" it also comes with an Australian plug.

The budget chargers typically recommended on this website often require an Australian adapter. However, they also tend to support a wider variety of battery types.

One last thing. The higher capacity batteries tend to be rated for fewer recharge cycles. That is: they last longer per charge but deteriorate faster compared to the 1900mAh. Both will probably still last years but it something to keep in mind.

        • Well I mean depends how often you want to charge the remote. I dot have a wii but I guess if charging is the bane of your existence then get the higher capacity ones.

  • +1

Are these the same internally as the older white ones? Or did they actually change the insides?

    • +1

      Would be interesting to see.
The old white ones had people thinking they were manufactured in the same facility as the eneloop batteries, and they ran similarly too!

    • +1

these would be like the pros, the old ones are like the regular eneloop batteries. 1900mah of the white ones vs 2450mah of the new ones.

  • Are there any rechargeable 2032 batteries?

    • +2

Yes. I use them. Just run a search on AliExpress.
I had to make my own charger, which wasn't too hard after quick online research.

    • +1

You'll almost certainly find that rechargeable 2032 batteries have dramatically lower capacity than non-rechargeable ones. Don't believe the mAh figures listed by sellers, they are usually a lie. Buy a small quantity, and try them to see if they are suitable for your application.

      • I agree.. I also suspect that they are mostly "used" batteries sold as "new". Maybe they remove the batteries from old PC motherboards?
some of the batteries I received had scratch marks on them. I tried to complain to the seller but well, you know… It's AliExpress.. Whenever I buy stuff from AliExpress, I consider it as a gamble.

        • +1

Maybe they remove the batteries from old PC motherboards?

I haven't seen a rechargeable battery on a PC motherboard since they stopped using Nicad batteries, have you seen otherwise?

I'm pretty lithium-ion batteries wouldn't be put into motherboards, because most lithium-ion batteries are showing serious degradation by the 3-4 year mark. So retailers of computer parts would have a lot of returns if they sell old stock, which they would try to claim back from the motherboard manufacturer.

          • @Russ: You are absolutely right. Just did some research and PC CMOS batteries, they aren't rechargeable, they are lithium cells which meant to last almost forever.

    • Just curious what you use them for? I have one in my scales and another on a heart rate chest strap, they literally last years.

      • Haha.. Yes, I haven't had to use my homemade charger yet. They do last years. I use them on a couple of scales, remotes, and car keys. I wonder what @busyra wanted them for?

  • You could also get the 1900mAh for the same price ($7):
    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/ladda-rechargeable-battery-hr06…

  • +1

which charger is good for all the rechargeable batteries?

    • +2

Liitokala, nitecore make good budget chargers

Maha chargers are the bees knees if you want to treat your Nimh like royalty.

      • Thank you sir

      • +1

Maha chargers are rubbish, it will give up as soon as your cells age. It won't work with higher than normal internal resistance cells. These cells might not be useful for high load devices but they perfect for clocks and remotes and mouse.

I suffer with Maha for years now I am really happy with MiBoxer C4-12. Does everything except discharging function.

        • I agree, Maha are not for general-purpose charging. But if fully-charged batteries are essential to you (e.g. maybe you're a wedding photographer), then a Maha charger lets you know if any of your batteries aren't in tip-top condition.

    • +8

None of the chargers currently at IKEA are any good. Not even the one that claims to be a smart charger - if you read the instructions that come with it, it's a 10-hour charger. It's so slow that the -dV/dt effect (that smart chargers use) will be undetectable, so while it might have a -dV/dt detection circuit, it won't ever activate. The charging cycle needs to be less than 4 hours for reliable -dV/dt detection.

Nitecore and Liitokala make some good chargers, but not all of the ones they make are good. For Liitokala, I recommend these models: Lii-202, Lii-500, Lii-500S, Lii-600. Nitecore's best charger is the D4, but when charging three or four batteries it takes twice as long as the Liitokala chargers, as it only has two charging circuits, and time-shares them between the batteries.

      • +1

Thank you sir for the detailed response

      • Would you not recommend the Liitokala 402 as that's the one we have?

        • I've got that for charging 21700s, abit tight but it gets the job done no problem.

Works fine for nimh batteries too, think it charges AA at 1amp but I always keep it at 500mA

        • The 402's 500mA charging current lets it down. Explanation here:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11435425/redir

I rate the 402 as "okay" for 1900mAh AA batteries, "poor" for 2450mAh AA batteries, and "a little risky" for AAA batteries.

My rule of thumb: 750mA-1000mA for charging AA batteries, and 300mA-400mA for charging AAA batteries (except for the Nitecore D4). This will give a 2-3 hour charge time, the -dV/dT effect will be easy to detect, and your batteries will get warm but not hot.

That said, you'll probably still get 3+ years out of your batteries if you charge them with the 402. Unlikely you'll get long life out of the batteries, as slow charging makes it difficult for the charger to accurately determine when the batteries are fully charged, often resulting in overcharging, which damages the batteries.

If you are charging lower-capacity AA batteries, like some of the energizer AA batteries with a capacity around 1500mAh, the 402 is a good charger for them.

          • @Russ: Thanks! What would you recommend as a good replacement for the 402? That isn't too pricey…

            • +2

@beebul: Cheapest model is the Lii-202, which can be had for about AU$15 if purchased from AliExpress, but it only charges two batteries at a time, and minimum current is 500mA which is still a little too high for AAA batteries.

If you want to charge four batteries at once, you can purchase two Lii-202 units from Fasttech.com for about AU$28, as the price for two units just exceeds their US$20 threshold for free shipping.
              https://www.fasttech.com/products/1421/10018115/5616100-liit…

Note that the Lii-202 has no power supply, you have to plug it into a USB power supply, like your mobile phone charger. If using two Lii-202 units at the same time, you'll need a mobile phone charger with two USB outputs, and it will have to be rated to 1.2A per USB output or higher. Or you could use two mobile phone chargers.

For only a little more, AU$35 (maybe plus GST), you could have an Lii-500 from Aliexpress, a full-featured charger. Each battery slot can be set to 300mA, 500mA, 700mA or 1000mA charging current, and it also has battery test modes, which come in useful to test batteries that you think have been damaged. But there are two things about this charger that you need to know - (1) many sellers sell the Lii-500 WITHOUT a mains adaptor, so be wary of cheaper prices, check that the mains adaptor is included; and (2) Liitokala DO NOT supply mains adaptors with AU mains plugs, its US or EU mains plugs only, so you'll need a mains plug adaptor, which adds about AU$5 to the price (for a good-quality mains plug adaptor).

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32661346790.html and click on the picture that says "Lii-500 and adaptor"

      • Any tips on where to get LiitoKala Lii-600 on a decent price? ~$60 seems to be the best I can find but was down to ~$35 5 months ago :(

        • The difference between the 500, 500S and 600 models is touch switches on the 500S and 600, and the more expensive ones look prettier and have different power adaptors. I don't think the 600 has any significant extra features over the 500S, so would you consider the 500S?

          • +1

@Russ: I'm not a fan of the touch interface but I do like the faster discharge rate and better internal resistance measurement of the Lii 600 if I can get it for <$40

  • they have plenty of batteries, but no charger.

    • You mean no charger included or no charger to purchase separately?

      • no charger included, they have chargers available.

      • yes both, I have been told that charges are back in stock Feb22.

        • +2

But all of their chargers are rubbish, don't buy them. See my other comments for explanation.

  • Do the AAs come with the charger or is it sold seperate?

    • sold separately.

      • do eneloop chargers work to charge these?

        • yes. that is what i am currently using. i bought the eneloop 4 AA and charge bundle. works fine. the charger fits both the aa and aaa batteries

          • @Hugh G Rection: It'll work fine for a few years, and then you'll find all your batteries are failing. Most eneloop chargers are "dumb" chargers, designed to break your batteries, so you keep buying more.

Even one charge in a "dumb" charger is likely to permanently damage your batterIes, and their performance will drop over time, even if you later change to a smart charger. With white eneloops, the damage is visible -the battery looks like it has a water stain around the positive end, under the clear plastic.

normal retail price is an Ozbargain when you save 0.00%?

  • +1

currently using the 2032 batteries, and there isn't much of a charge in it. i burn through them so fast. they run like they are 10 year old batteries. ymmv. the aa and aaa rechargeable and non rechargeable are great and cheap, but i would stay away from the 2032 batteries.

  • is RRP but I upvoted because it reminded me IKEA is still the cheapest for reputable batteries that I can stick into solar xmas lights to replace NiCd batteries that puked their guts

Bunnings do have shitty low Ah ones for $5/4pk, but rarely in stock

    • I don't see on Bunnings website (I only see Varta + Energizer)… I guess they really don't have stock!

  • -2

Went to Ikea before to get batteries, but they have only rechargable ones. If you quickly need some, don't waste your time looking at IKEA.

    • they are precharged, so you can use them straight away…

      • They didn’t tell me that. I explained that I wanted to buy some to use instantly. How much are they pre charged? Probably not 100%…

        • How instant do you want? You already spent time doing the trip, another 45mins navigating the never ending store and stupidly long checkout queues. Why not another 15mins topping up the batteries?

  • +1

Here's an awesome website for comparing batteries if you're into that sort of thing. Can compare Ikea Ladda to Eneloops

    https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/CommonAAcomparato…

  • Ironic that I was just watching a Ladda engine do 10,000 RPM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seqHncXqUN4 It throws it piston at about 13:50

  • Anyone want to post some down to Tassie for me? lol

  • -1

Don't cheat on your Eneloops !

    • +3

      Profile picture checks out

  • Does anyone find the wrapping on the LADDA batteries peel off sooner than other brands?

  • +3

Not much of a deal tbh, these have been same price for a long time now..

  • Ordered some batteries from IKEA online recently and no word of a lie they took a month to get delivered to metro Sydney. I had things i ordered after that from US and China that came much quicker. Really, really pathetic by IKEA.

  • I was able to use the code QREW4iK27 from this deal for another $10 off (despite not spending $100 last quarter).

  • +1

i thought everyone knew ladda were in fact eneloops

    https://www.slrlounge.com/panasonic-eneloop-vs-ikea-ladda-ar…

this info is years old btw,

  • not sure how this is a deal, seen them at this price for months

is this not just usual rrp for ladda?

    • yeah think this might be long running deal since they were posted as alternatives to eneloops. I went in store today and bought them at that price but also so them at the price earlier in the month.

  • On the website and in store as of today the "new" Ladda are still:

    AA 2450 4 pack $12
    AA 1900 4 pack $7
    AAA 750 4 pack $7

There might be display stands directly in front of the checkouts if you are in a hurry, but otherwise the main stock will be in the lighting section (enjoy the walk). Check online for stock before you go in, but I saw hundreds of packs of each capacity.

  • i have the eneloop fast charger… works like a charm. was short on batteries but looks like not anymore …..
