The screens colour gamut and brightness won´t suit everyone but it´s hard to find a 2in1 touch screen with an 8 core CPU at a similar price point with good battery life, based on reviews.

AMD Ryzen 5700u performance for reference, using Passmark

    Pretty good edu laptop imo

  • Would this be too heavy for my boy for yr7?

    • Tell him to start lifting weights.

      • It's around 2kg. Yeah, on the heavy side.

    • +2

Unless you really need a touch screen then don't buy a 2in1. They're heavier and are usually more expensive and poorer quality. For a school kid you want a 14" weighing 1 to 1.4 kg

      • Thanks!

    • Get a Dell Luxury laptop backpack to protect it. Don't use a flimsy school bag.

They were previously lower at $1016.10 on the same store 6 months ago! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/630047

    • For those considering this laptop, do have a look at the review on youtube too. It's great in some areas… but also very poor in others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbvXlQEgl28&ab_channel=UFDTe…

The screen is an absolute turd. Considering they can slap 300+ nits, WQHD with 100% sRGB on the slims I don't see why they have to keep cheaping out on all the other AMD lines.

    • +3

I am not sure how you can neg a deal on a price from 6 months ago.

      • +1

Oh, you can, it just makes you an idiot.

        • -2

Prob not if we're talking about constants like fuel or precious stones etc, but older tech is constantly cheaper (or should be). Pretty stupid to expect it to be more expensive the older it is instead.

          • +1

@clubhonda: Chip shortages are also a thing. Demand is up. Shipping is a shitshow.

I'm with you, more money for older tech is crap. An RTX 2060 is also selling for $1k.

            ¯\ _ (ツ)_/¯

          • @clubhonda: Unless you have a time machine, past prices which are 6 months old and 5% better are completely irrelevant. You add nothing to the conversation.

            • @Joker042: @joker042 I disagree. For older tech products, why should we accept higher prices for them?

AUD was $0.77 vs USD on the 6th of June, now $0.71.

The average price of U91 in NSW in June 2021 was $1.43 / L (source). I'd love to know how the price of fuel in June is relevant to someones ICE car running costs today.

Looks like the best value touch laptop around if you can access the edu site.

  • How many GB does this AMD Radeon Graphics have?

    • +1

It's integrated graphics, so it shares system memory for vram. This laptop isn't for gaming. You'll run into memory problems very often.

  • it comes up as 1269 in card when checking out, something's wrong with the website

    • +1

You need to click apply coupon again when your in the cart

      • thanks, its funny it appears with the right price before you go to checkout then once you're in checkout it slaps another $200 on!

  • Between the posted and this: https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-inspiron-14-74…

    Which would you guys recommend?

    • Refurbished ones are used products which ran into hardware problems. Even if the faulty parts have been replaced, you won't know how long the laptop has been used.
The hinges are prone to damage due to previous owners' use. I bought a Lenovo refurbished one two years ago (out of warranty now), now one hinges is faulty. Have to buy another laptop because of the hinge.

      • Wow never thought about that. Thanks for the reply.

    • Refurbished desktops should be OK.

  • No display out via USB-C, for those interested in using it with a dock.

  • From your experience, will Lenovo Education Store Xmas sales offer better deals, or no changes?

    • +1

I find education store sales where it is not related to a specific event to be better. CES is around the corner with AMD launching new CPUs, so if there is still enough stock of the previous generation, I assume they would be cleared out.

  • It seems that AMD Ryzen 7 5700U is neck to neck with Core-i7-1165G7 https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-1165G7-v…

  • any similar deals for this model?
