Samsung Galaxy A22 5G Prepaid (Locked to Telstra) $299 ($259.10 for WW Service Customers) @ Woolworths

150
DEC2021

First post so please be gentle…..

So the Mrs phone is slowly going and looking for a replacement. As not a heavy user and not needed the latest and greatest I found the Telstra Samsung Galaxy A22 5g Prepaid Mobile on special at Woolies for $299 went to order it online (click & collect) tried the coupon DEC2021 and got a further discount so ended up paying $259.10

The Mrs current sim is Boost and I've swapped sims over and can confirm it is working, as Boost is on full Telstra network NOT Telstra wholesale as the rest are. So only Telstra and Boost will work on this phone unless unlocked which would cost $80 from Telstra.

The code came about because I was using the Honey plugin which pumped through 6 different codes, that one gave me the biggest discount.

I bought this on Tuesday when my last phone decided to go nope.

If you get it delivered note they will likely keep it in the fridge part of the truck pick up also possible too depending on how umm they are.

This is what happened after I bought it up with customer service
Them: No that shouldn't affect warranty but you will have to go directly to Samsung if you do have issues.
Me: You kept my phone in a fridge for ~4 hours I'm not an export but that sounds like potential water damage to me
    Them: that isn't our problem.
Me: Why? As far as I'm aware condensation on the inside of the phone could fry the thing it wasn't me that went I know the fridge is the way to transport a phone!
Them: That's why you will have to go to Samsung for warranty bye.

Yes Woolworths service has been notorious lately. I have stopped using their car insurance and prepaid sim. Woolworths still owe me $5 that they said they will reimburse. That was a year ago. I had a Samsung A20 but their 2Gb RAM rendered them quite useless. Samsung service centre is quite good but depends on your luck who you meet there.

    • go skiing for a day and keep it in your pocket, it's not the fridge, closer to being in the freezer for 6,7,8 or 9hours.

      • Is that an offer? :)
I slightly doubt a phone maker would go yes skiing water damage is general day to day use for somewhere where it last snowed in 1958. lol Fun fact I have never seen actual snow outside of pictures or videos. :)

I would have preferred it gotten warm by itself but after I noticed the condensation in the box that made me go oh it needs to be taken out so water doesn't get in it. But I may have just made it worse. I wouldn't trust the cable or charger.
Then to contact the store only to be greeted with a well it's not our fault we did it yes but we are not taking any responsibility for it.

I've already has random issues with the phone that I have no idea if it's just software bugs or the phone is damaged. My previous phone issue started small (a strange colour) and ended up growing to where I couldn't read text any more.

  • Price is par for the course for these kind of specs.

  • is this dual sim model?

    • nope, the one i got is a single sim

  • can phones locked to Telstra be used with Boost or Woolies?

    • +1

Boost sims work, I've got a boost sim in the phone I purchased, woolies I'm not sure, I suspect not because woolies and the other telstra network are on Telstra wholesale which is a different network to Telstra actual which only Telstra & Boost run on.

to unlock the phone costs $80, $25 after 6months ownership and free after 2 yrs
