Thoughts on Dyson vacs sale prices?

  • $899 ($200 off) for Sonos Sub is not bad

  • CES needs to bring in companies ready to release picture frame TV's affordable or something and reset the button on innovation

  • Anyone own the A6G 58"?

Very tempted for the folks; does it have a dedicated backlight control? Not just 'brightness'?

    • I'm interested in this TV too, a couple of weeks ago HN had this for $695, I don't think this is a ridiculously cheap price. Might be room for negotiations in store. It's now back up to $895 on "clearance" :)

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hisense-58-inch-a6g-4k-uhd-l…

      • $660 at videopro; its why im tempted.

        • ooh nice. Tho I guess with HN or JB gift cards the price would come pretty close to Videopro.

  • Ordinary prices on tablets too. I think they want to cash in on gift cards everyone gets for Christmas. Sadly for them, us ozbargainers know better.

    • I didn't get any gift cards 😢

      • Your family do Christmas early?

  • Anyone know what the key difference is between Sony x85j and x95j? Looking at the 85". The x85 seems very tempting.

    • +1

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x85j-vs-sony-x9…

Easy to check here, if you can understand the tech details ^^

      • +1

Thanks! Aside from local dimming, I can't see the big diff. Weird how the blurb says 85j doesn't have hdmi 2.1, but it clearly does and supports 4k@120hz.

    • No local dimming on the 85, I wouldn't be interested if you're planning on watching a lot of movies in the evenings.

      • +1

Does it make a huge noticeable difference? I'm no expert but I think if I had the 85j on the wall at night and watched a movie, I'd be pretty happy with it. It's approx $2200 price diff for the two atm, local dimming justifyable at that price?

        • +2

Local dimming is necessary for high contrast ratios, better looking colours. However, if you've never seen a TV with local dimming you won't miss it, you'll be happy and you'll save $2,200. That's the thing with TVs, the more you know, the more you feel like you're missing out.

          • +1

@Xastros: That's exactly my thoughts! Think I'll pull the trigger on 85j.

            • +2

@ksun1985: Good Guys already have the 85 reduced to $3795 if you want to beat the Boxing Day rush

          • +1

@Xastros: Love this comment. And although I am a massive fan of doing lots of research, it inevitably makes you end up spending more money than you initially intended, even if you do find an amazing deal. Just gotta have those extra features you didn't even know existed when you first started looking! Funny how it works. :)

            • +2

@PotPlant: Unfortunately I am also a fan of research. I always research things before buying but it's not a good thing. Now I can't unsee ghosting, tearing, artifacts, dirty screen, blooming etc. Things I would have never noticed. If the Matrix has taught us anything it's not to take the red pill.

For people coming from a really old TV and who don't know much about it I'd say just get the biggest cheap TV that suits your room size. Everyone notices size but all the other stuff you probably don't notice if you don't 'research' or look in store at all the better models.

        • What you're used to is another question…

If you've had a plasma or OLED, you may notice. Coming from an LED, not.

          • @R00D: Never had oled, apparently not great for bright rooms.

            • @ksun1985: An LED may look better in a very bright room, I'd never say OLED is 'not great' though. See, LED has never really held a candle to Plasma or OLED due to the forever backlit pixels, 'bright room' is the one thing that keeps coming up over and over pro-LED. Along side gaming.

You'll be happy with the x85j it'll look great, who cares. If you don't have the comparison to make in your house, you'll never know.

              • @R00D: Thanks for your opinion. Unfortunately I've gone down the rabbit hole and the suggestions are 95J series is much better with local dimming. So keeping my eye out for specials next year when they release newer models and drop the price.

  • Is $599 a good price for the Sonos Beam Gen 2? Thinking of getting a soundbar for my sony X90J bought in black friday sales.

    • +1

Get the Arc if you can stretch it.

  • +7

Black Friday sales have been better than Boxing Day sales for a few years now. This year is no different

  • That Deal on the G15 Zephyrus seems pre tempting for 2.3k… ngl

  • Can someone recommend a laptop?

Its going to be a study laptop, no gaming at all, occasional use of video streaming

    • +6

      a macbook air

      • -1

Thank you but would prefer Microsoft.. I have never used macbook before

Get whatever is smallest and lightest; literally anything will open a pdf, play a stream, and load webpages these days.

Then invest in a desktop screen, keyboard and mouse.

          Best of both worlds.

Check the official Dell refurbished store.
The deals are incredible when in stock.

So many good TV options… it is such a shame that I will need to wait until next year to ensure the correct size for the new space.

  • I am considering getting the Samsung 65-inch QN90A Neo 4K QLED Smart TV at the moment because they are down to $2795 ($1200 off). Anything from this catalogue that might be a better option than this TV?

    • 65 inch A80J OLED, expensive though $3495

      • Which is better? A series or X series?

  • +1

Black Friday sale > Xmas Boxing day

  • +2

I got the A80J black friday matching Costco at 3099 not sure of costco price now worth a check for boxing day.

  • I'm looking for a 55" TV up to $2000. Deciding between LG C1 vs Sony X90J vs Samsung Frame since the prices are going to be dropped. Any recommendations?
My main use is to watch movies and tv shows, not much of a gamer.

    • +2

      C1.

    • You can get 65inch X90j for that price

    • C1

  • Is it possible to buy what you want now, wait till Boxing Day to claim a refund on the price difference? Just thinking that this might be a way to be sure that you get what you want before they run out

  • What Hisense TV is that for $695?

  • +2

I heavily exercised the rationale to cop any one of the OLED big bois (LG C1, A80J etc.) ever since Black Friday sales. I settled on a 55X90j instead and I am pleasantly surprised the quality SONY has offered. I paid $1525 with gift cards and discount codes) I hope I made the right choice here by giving the OLED a miss. I would still own one in a heartbeat if my budget allowed me!

  • Sorry, I have a related question since a lot of people are talking about using gift cards to buy stuff at JBH. I used to combine all of the lower denomination gift cards I held on the JBH site into one or two larger ones but it doesn't seem to work anymore. JBH automatically denies me because they say their system is detecting some sort of suspicious activity. Is anyone else having this problem? With all the Shopback offers etc. lately, I've accumulated all of these lower value gift cards and I also have some larger denominations. It is becoming unwieldy.

    • Yes they have stopped allowing this. You cannot purchase gift cards with other gift cards. They have added this to their T&Cs now.

    • Do it in person at register, probably a limit on amount of gift cards per transaction in the system

    Bing Lee has 83" C1 at $6,995 with bonus $250 Mastercard……

Looks like some of the deals are already active online! The LG C1 is showing online at the discounted price of $2142

    • https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-55-inch-c1-cinema-series-… $2140

Buying gift cards at shopback would bring this down another $100. Almost ready to pull the trigger.

      • You mean buying HN gift cards to get further $100 off? How exactly does it work may I know?

        Thanks.

        • +1

You can buy HN giftcards through the Shopback app (not on PC) and you will get an almost immediate cashback in your shopback balance (within 24 hours?) of 4.5%. You can buy 4 x $500 gift cards and effectively pay only $1910 once you receive the cashback in your account. Hope that makes sense!

    • Thanks for the heads up, been waiting since missing Black Friday. Just ordered and picking up today!

  • +3

Just pooped into jbhifi in osborne park and they already have the C1's advertised with the boxing day price. The store rep told me they have no 65" c1's until March.

    • +3

      Kudos for the poop

  • How would this compare to the Samsung Neo, the 65 inch is discounted currently? Anyone any thoughts?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-qn90a-65-neo-qled…

    • I'm certainly no expert, but I think the excitement over the LG is that it is OLED. The Samsung you have posted is qled. I'm not sure how the actual picture compares tho!

    • I think I’m going for the QN90A because it gets much brighter and I have a bright room. Probably more important than anything else. I have the new iPad Pro with mini LED and it gets hella bright. There is some blooming of white text on a black background but only with specific content. Burn in anxiety is also not something I need in my life.

The LG is probably better all round though with 4 x HDMI 2.1 Ports instead of the Samsung’s 1. Apparently more a gamer’s TV. Great for dark games and dark movies and best overall picture in the panel but not as bright.

  • Anyone spotted a good deal on 50” tvs, preferably Sony?

  • -1

It won't be in stock. The Good Guys and JB are the same company and share stock. Chances are you'll have to wait at least a month for it to arrive. Probably longer, since you'll be behind all the Black Friday buyers. This is technically illegal, but they're doing it again because they know they can get away with it. Don't reward them.

  • Can we get some lg g1 deals?

  • Do they price match Amazon?

    • +1

I've consistently been able to PM Amazon AU - but of course, YMMV.

  • +1

This TV is $1999 now with free delivery to some cities

    • +1

I got my local jbhifi to price match this for $2004. Happy with that.

  • I can see 65" at same black friday sale price $2888 JB HiFi
