As an current Orbi (RBK50) user, I highly recommend against investing in this. Netgear's support is abysmal. They actually charge you money after only 90 days. They force-load buggy software updates and then pretend that nothing's wrong. I just spent a couple of days without working satellites because of a Netgear update. I had to factory reset the whole thing. An alternative is to try Voxel's firmware, but I haven't done that myself just yet. Take a look at the Orbi group on Reddit.

What was the update? I'm running Orbi RBK50's very happily without any issue V2.7.3.22…. sounds like i'll do myself a favour and stay on that version.

Edit: hmmm actually looking in my Orbi settings now i dont evens see a way to disable updates!

      • Same version here. My satellite stopped working and I had to factory reset both to get it working again.

Check out the Reddit forum. Lots of complaints.

        • When was that? I didn't even realize it updates automatically. I swear i had to manually update the version earlier in the year. I just checked my setup and i have devices attached to my satellite (shield pro, wyze cams, xiaomi crap) working fine so looks like i escaped a bullet this update.

          • @Xizor: This version caused devices connected by Ethernet to have the Webpage Not Found NXDOMAIN error. Granted it only lasts a few seconds, but still annoying. After waiting for 4 months without an update, I gave up and bought another router. As others said, Netgear forced automatic updates now, so rolling back to previous FW doesn’t work.

    • Doesn't factory reset leave you on the upgraded firmware version?

      • Yes. I didn't think it'd work for that reason, but it did. I think the upgrade may have screwed up the config.

    • As far as I know, RBK50 does not do automatic update anymore. It used to do that, but stopped because of buggy software a few years ago. Now only shows a message bar to tell you there is an update and you need to click to install it.

that's how things ought to be by default

    • what are they charging you money for?

      • After 90 days, technical support costs money.

        • that's pretty tight. Most companies at least let you email them about a problem.

I'm also still using RBK50, is there anything worth upgrading to from this system? I've been happy with it and feel no need to upgrade right now

Depends how many wifi 6 devices you have.

  • these things were about $240 on AMZ around BF.
