Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 12.5" i5 128GB $744 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

380

This laptop has been very popular for students. Cheaper than previous popular deals https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/654575

HN has the same price, but I would support JB instead.

How about compare to this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674175

At a glance it looks to be $355 more…

      They are both laptops.

There are just some tiny differences like:
      15.6'' vs 12.5 screen
      1.9kg vs 1.1kg weight
      $1,100 vs $750 price
      different CPU
512GB NVMe vs 64 GB eMMC
      12GB vs 4GB RAM

      Was this a serious question?

      • This one is 128gb ssd with 8gb ram

      • hahha some people

      • also dell is FHD the GO is 1536x1024 …. considering small screen should be as sharp but not sure what the fonts look like on the 12” screen ….. depends if you need 12” laptop ….

Concur re don't support Harvey Norman's. I purchased from Harvey's for $821 on Dec 17th and they said it's now longer than 7days since purchasing so no dice re refunding the difference. As it's unopened I then asked to return it as thought they can get stuffed and I'll repurchase from JB. Was told they don't accept 'change of mind' returns. I've never had issues with JB or the Good Guys in these circumstances.

11 years of no HN & still going. Garry Harvey can go stuff himself.

I had exactly the same experience with HN after buying this on the 18/12 and seeing the extra deal on it this week. Buy it from JB.

Excellent build quality, ideal form factor, weight and screen. Great for my primary school aged daughter - she loves it. Very happy with the purchase in sandstone (rose gold). You could get better specs, bigger screen, more RAM, faster CPU, etc, but this is a case of the machine as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

JB guarantee refunds for unopened products up to 30 days.

      • JB accepted an opened Notebook return for me (client bought one). Was not fit for purpose and they were more than happy to return and refund. Main thing is that everything was as new and undamaged. Ok, it was within approx 7 days but stiil good as was opened.. Nice one JB.

        • Was not fit for purpose

I wonder if that phrase is what got them to just take it back and move on?

    • The fact it's unopened, geez what more do they want?

    • @funkybits - try escalating directly to the store. To give credit to HN Springvale (vic), I insisted the support chat consultant escalate to the store and got a call from the store about 2 days later immediately offering to refund the difference - no questions asked.

If you're considering buying this, you should have bought the Lenovo yesterday instead.

      Was that touch screen?

      • No it wasn't

I’ve heard of the 7-Eleven chopper, but I missed the deal on the OzBargain time machine. Obviously one would need both to be master of both time and space, however right now I am happy just to go back 24 hours… let me polish off this coffee first…

        You should stop abusing substances

I believe that all substances should be shown respect, and be able to coexist peacefully with humanity

Good to see they switched back to using x86/64 processors. The original Go that ran on ARM was a piece of shit that couldn't run most apps.

    • In late 2021 the newer ARM processors are doing a half decent job of emulating x86/x64. I don't own any of those Snapdragon-based Windows machines but I am running Parallels on my MacBook Pro (with M1 Pro) and am finding it most amusing to run my Steam library on here through multiple levels of emulation.

    • the original Go ran on a pentium gold, still couldn't run a heck of a lot, but perhaps you're getting mixed up with the surface duo that runs on an ARM chip?

I assumed he was referring to Surface RT

        • Ahh yeah that's the one.

Crap. I bought one for my daughter 8 or 9 days ago at $800 from JB. Can I go back and ask for the difference? Do I go back to the original store as well?

    • You could always ask them.

  • 128g without sd card slot, it will be hard for someone. Meanwhile it used 2230 M2 which is hard to buy for upgrading.

    • It's aimed that the student market that have access to 1TB of cloud storage for free

I bought the 256gb in ice blue last week for $1060.20 from the online Microsoft store.
I hopped onto the online chat and asked if they had any student discounts available. They offered a 5% refund once the item was shipped.

curious … no backlit keyboard, would that be a minor inconvenience?

    • How shit are you at touch typing and how often do you work with black screens in a dark room?

    • Laptop manufacturers making backlit keyboard a paid upgrade is like when you used to have to pay for motor windows on cars decades after they where mainstream.

  • Is this model has matt screen?IPS?

    • is this FHD ? 1536x1024 it seems after google …….

Bought it today, thanks for the recommendation
