20x Flybuys Points with Purchase of Apple Gift Cards (Excluding $20 Cards, Max 45000 Points Per Account) @ Coles (In-Store Only)

1940

The latest gift card deal from Coles (taken from the upcoming VIC Metro weekly catalogue), where you will have 10% of the Apple gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Flybuys points.1

This deal can be stacked with the ongoing Free / Discounted AirPods deal at Apple.

Please check the packaging of each gift card for evidence of tampering. One OzBargainer has reported some Apple gift card packages at a Coles supermarket being tampered, where the sheet with the gift card code is removed and replaced with a sheet with a (most likely used) gift card code.

Deal terms and conditions

  • A limit of 5 Gift Cards per Flybuys account applies. Offer valid only at Coles Supermarkets (excludes Coles Online, Coles Express and purchases via giftcards.com.au), subject to store availability.

  • Excludes $20 Apple Gift Cards.

  • To qualify for this offer you must present your Flybuys card at the time of purchase. Whilst stocks last, no rainchecks. Offer valid from 05/01/22 to 11/01/22.

  • BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card but up to a maximum of 45,000 points can be collected per Flybuys account.

Additional notes:

  • This deal is not available at Coles Local, Coles Express, Coles Online or Coles Group’s dedicated gift card website.

  • 2000 Flybuys points is equivalent to $10 of Flybuys Dollars (redeemable at participating retailers) or 1000 Velocity Frequent Flyer points.

  • This deal is for 19x bonus points per $1 spent on Apple gift cards in addition to the 1x standard point per $1 spent on Apple gift cards that you can earn every day.

  • Points earned at Coles are usually credited around 4:30pm Sydney/Melbourne time on the day after the transaction. However, there have been cases recently where Flybuys points were only credited a few days after the transaction.

Do you have another question regarding this deal? The answer may be in the FAQ page!

  1. The 10% calculation assumes you opt to redeem your Flybuys points for (1) an instant $10 discount at Coles (available to Coles Financial Services customers only), (2) Flybuys Dollars or (3) a range of gift cards on the Flybuys Rewards Store

@dirtyhen: That's per account per specific deal (to use WookieMonster's wording)

            • +1

@dirtyhen: The points cap mentioned in this deal is only for this specific deal.

The number of points you earn through this deal is not effected by whether you have participated in previous Flybuys bonus points promotions. Flybuys doesn't care whether you have participated in the last Apple gift card bonus points deal (in Nov 2021).

I think back to uni discount is coming soon too

  • Did I miss the fact that the the 15% iTunes gift cards have disappeared for good? Haven't had one since May last year…

    • +2

You did, and you are correct the last 15% off App Store & iTunes gift card deal was in May 2021.

Apple stopped selling App Store & iTunes gift cards and Apple Store gift cards in Australia on 02 July 2021 and replaced both of them with the Apple gift cards you see in this deal. The Apple gift card can be used for purchases you used to pay for with App Store & iTunes gift cards, as well as for purchases from an Apple Store (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Mac).

      • Thanks! That’s disappointing. I would have purchased a couple of grand had I realized it was the last opportunity for ~20% off.

        • +1

If you see TCN or Ultimate gift cards (with JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer) being sold for a discount in the future, you can use them at JB Hi-Fi to purchase Apple gift cards.

However, the highest upfront discount we’ve seen on any TCN or Ultimate gift cards is 15% off, and those deals only happen once a year at Coles…

  • Will these gift cards be eligible to use buying a new Macbook M1 Pro using the education discount (and potentially the back to school deal)?

    • +1

Yes, but you need to keep in mind the following points:

      • You can only redeem a maximum of eight gift cards at the checkout on Apple’s website or through the Apple Store app. If you want to get around this limit, you can add an unlimited number of gift cards to your Apple account balance and then use the Apple account balance in conjunction with eight gift cards (and in conjunction with a debit/credit card as well, if required).

      • I think the limit for the number of gift cards you can redeem in-person at an Apple Retail Store is also eight, but someone will have to confirm that for me. You cannot redeem your Apple account balance in-person at an Apple Retail Store.

      • I think the limit for the number of gift cards you can redeem over-the-phone at 133 MAC (133 622) is also eight, but someone will have to confirm that for me. You can redeem your Apple account balance over-the-phone in conjunction with Apple gift cards.

      • If you want to purchase AppleCare+ with your Mac and pay for it using Apple gift cards, your best bet is to go into an Apple Retail Store and pay for it in-person. Some people are able to pay for AppleCare+ using an Apple account balance, but some other people are not able to do so. It’s really random.

Thanks for the help. Long as I can use it for the education discount I'm happy. Hope they through in AirPods or something for jan.

  • Looking to buy macbook air and wondering if I can buy these apple gift card using coles gift card(4%off on them) . Any thoughts?

    • You cannot use Coles Groceries gift cards (or Coles Groceries & Returns gift cards) to purchase any gift cards at Coles. If you attempt that, you’ll get an error message on the EFTPOS terminal.

If you have any other type of Coles gift card, it only works in some circumstances.

Do you have to activate this deal in the app or just scan flybuys when you purchase Apple gift cards and how much would you have to spend to max out the 45000 points

    • Do you have to activate this deal in the app or just scan flybuys when you purchase Apple gift cards

No separate activation is required. As long as you scan your Flybuys card during the transaction, you’ll get the points.

how much would you have to spend to max out the 45000 points

      $2250

Don’t forget that the colorful apple logo on front of the gift card itself is a sticker 😀.

    Warning!!! Scam!!!
I bought invalid GCs from Coles Burwood yesterday!!!

Some of the GCs were cut from the side edge and the actual card was swapped with invalid cards, then the edge was glued. You can't tell the difference unless you look closely at the right edge of the GC.
I had to go back to Coles about this. Luckily they gave me legit cards this time, and we had a look at the remaining cards on the shelf - many of them are dodgy, but Coles staff will take them down.

    • +1

Geez almighty, that’s rough! I’m glad the Coles staff at the store were happy to sort out the issue for you. I’ve updated the deal with a link to this comment.

The upshot of the situation (if there is one) is that you’re likely to keep 19x points from the original transaction. The refund of the tampered cards will see you lose all standard points, but I don’t think Coles/Flybuys refunds any bonus points you earn in a transaction…

      • +1

Thank you for that! This is shocking right!
After feeling almost lost $1200, I don't care much about the flybuy points any more lol 😂
They didn't do a refund on the original receipt, but issued me with new cards without charging me. I think the bonus points might be there, even though it is not showing in my account yet.

I hate scams like this! Those people are so bad!

        • Yeah, I think you’re right to be much more worried about where your $1200 may have gone. I may have lost some perspective there lol

If they didn’t do a receipt-based refund, disregard everything I said in the second paragraph of my previous comment!

I think it’s a good reminder for all of us to check gift card packages before purchasing them. Even for gift cards where you scan the barcode on the physical gift card to purchase it (e.g. eBay, Amazon, The Perfect EFTPOS, Ultimate, TCN), there has been at least one case of fraudsters sticking photocopied barcodes onto the back of the physical gift card itself, so you can never be too careful when inspecting gift cards!

    • Wow that's dodgy af.

Everyone needs to see this and triple check the packaging before purchasing.

    • Which coles burwood? Do you mean the coles at burwood one shopping Center?

    • Happened to notice these as well in my local coles. The safety sticker was opened in some of them and I had to go through the pile to pick not opened ones.

Just to mention that, the cards won’t be activated till they are purchased. But if the people that grabbed the code are doing periodic checks to redeem codes, then you might get unlucky. So make sure you get the unopened ones and redeem them as soon as purchase is done.

  • I see a pattern. Next month it will be woolies and bigw i bet.

    • My bet is either late this month or early next month.

      • +1

        wow.. You are something mate..

  • Just a quick qu, if I purchase the gift cards from Shopback (to earn that 3% cashback), would I be able to use these to purchase the Apple gift cards and get the bonus FlyBus points as well?

Iirc I managed to use the Coles gift cards to buy the TCN ones but this promo has FlyBus pts attached to it.

    • Yes.

You'll get standard and bonus Flybuys points on the Apple gift cards, regardless of the payment method(s) you use to pay for them.

    • What gift cards do you buy from Shopback?

      • The Shopback Super Swap gift card
Meant to state it as 2%

  • Planning to buy a macbook pro and iphone 13, reckon I should use flybuys for one of the devices and everyday rewards for the other since there's a limit of points now?

  • How long will it take to get the bonus points on my flybuy card normally?

    • +1

For me, it normally appears on the day after the transaction at around 5pm Sydney/Melbourne time.

For others, it can take a few days.

      It’s really random.
