    Does this work with AOC?

    • +11
      • +13

A shame people didn't like your AOC joke. That phone case is something else!

      • It's currently showing it on the AOC store?

        Any ideas?

    • +1

The first question that popped into my mind also. If it does then what a cracker!

    • +2

      We’ll find out tomorrow morning.

AOC is about ~12.5% discount, vs ~8.2% regular Education store.

    • +4

      What is AOC? Thanks

      • +8

Higher “tier 2” discounts. I believe they were introduced in 2021 and intended for Australian Teacher’s Union members.

Discount is about ~12.5% vs ~8.2% on Education store.

OzBargain Post highlighting the store few months ago.

        • +1

oh fantastic. Thanks for the clarification. This came at a perfect time as I am looking for a new iPad Pro

          • @devin booker: I believe the iPad Pro is the same price at the aoc and the education stores

        • AOC may turn out cheaper than this if reselling the airpods. Depending on the price that the airpods fetch.

      • +2

In the off-chance you're also curious about what AOC stood for (like me!), I believe it's "Association Of Colleges"

    • Nope

    • +6

Just tested it and only works with normal edu store it seems

      • Second that. The promotion banner doesnt show up in AOC website whilst it does in normal edu store.

      • Appears to be displayed on MacBook Airs for me…

        • +1

          you best check again

I am seeing no free AirPods for AOC just regular education store prices

          • @YLD1: Still showing for me, and giving the option to add in the checkout.

            • @Vanessa1234: Are you 100% sure it’s AOC

Is the MacBook Air $1,294.70 ?

            • @Vanessa1234: Can you give more info? What is the price and spec for the Air you are looking at?
You can get the base Air for $1294 and you can add the Pods but you dont get the promo page like on the regular store so the Pods get added to your cart as payable items.

              • +2

@7hours 44min ago: im sure Vanessa is on the standard education page where the base price for the air is $1,349

                • +1

@YLD1: It's on standard edu page where the air is $1,349.
It's NOT on the AOC site where the air is $1294.7.

                  • @icejam: Sorry, thought I would get a chance to post from my laptop today but didn’t. The AOC link referred to above is showing me the offer for the AirPods but the purchase price is $1349.

  • +13

If you get the AirPods Pro it was better last year as you get $249 off rather than $219 this year.

    • -8

yeah and AOC could be used last year too

      shame this year

you don't get to being valued as a $3 trillion dollar company without shafting the little guy out of $30

      • +8

This offer has never been available to partner sites (such as AOC), only the main Edu store.

  • Shit damn. I just got the MacBook Pro m1max last Friday. Do you guys think I could just return and rebut to get this deal!?!

    • +6

Yes, 14 day return policy if you bought it from Apple.

    • +2

Will be hard to find stock I reckon..

    • Yeah you can if you bought it from apple. You have until the 7th to return it.

    • +1

Some guy on here said he ordered an M1 Max in later Oct and it still hasn’t arrived. I got my Base 16” and it took 4 weeks

      • +3

        Probably a specced out one.

        • +2

I think any BTO model will suffer long delivery times nowadays. The issue is whether you want to go without a macbook for possibly months for the sake of saving $219

    • Go to apple store and tell them what you want to do, they should just give you the AirPods (provided you are entitled to the education discount)

    • Happened to me last year. They were more than happy to refund and sell again so I could get the free iPods. It was all on paper and I held on the the device I originally bought. They said it happens all the time.

      • Thanks for sharing, could you let us know the process you went through!??!

and you were able to just hang onto your device?

Did you have to make an appointment? or just over phone?

        • +1

I called but they said it couldn’t be processed over the phone unless I had purchased it online which I hadn’t. So I had to make an appointment to come in-store. No walk-ins of course as they were only letting x number of people into the store because of COVID.

When I turned up for my appointment I explained that I had just purchased my iPad but then the education deal was advertised with the free AirPods. I asked if I could still get the free AirPods. They said that they get these requests all the time and that it was no problem provided the purchase was within the last 2 weeks.

In order to give me the free AirPods they had to process my original purchase as a refund on their system. They then processed a new sale with the AirPods included. I bought my iPad with me but I still kept it. So they basically just processed it on their system and there was no physical swap of my iPad. I just walked away with some free AirPods :)

    • Yo,
Same thing happened to me I just called them up on +133 622 and asked them about the promotion and my order and they just sent me the AirPods for free.
Give them a ring and quote your order number :)

    • Same boat. I rang them and they applied the deal to my existing order, no need to return and reorder. You get charged for the AirPods and the amount is subtracted from your pending order.

  • +2

    damn ipad mini excluded…

    • +3

      Bad Apple!

    • Seriously, It's a bit odd considering they upsized it's screen, processor and connectivity. It's a more capable device than the air.

      • +2

Especially when it is quite expensive. I was hoping that the Mini was to be included after jumping up in price.

        • I assume it's because the iPad mini is still in high demand as it's relatively new… I bought one for my mother and she loved it.

    • +16

You are not buying an iPad or Mac to get a discount on AirPods. You are buying an iPad or Mac that happen to come with an AirPods discount.

I don’t know what people think when they say stuff like what you said lol.

  • +2

If I got no interest in airpords, and wanna resell, which one should I get to maximise my resell profit?

    • +1

Considering you are paying the difference, I would be inclined to go with the 2nd or 3rd Gen as it will cost you less and they would likely sell quicker (wider audience). Also AirPod Pros 2 likely to release this year causing some people to hold off paying RRP.

    • Upgrade to the AirPods 3

      They’ll see quicker

    • +3

      just checked eBay auction result:
      - airpods 2nd: sold about 100-150
      - airpods 3rd: sold about 220

so if you get airpods 2nd, you can get $100 profit minimum without having to pay any extra,
for airpods 3rd, you can possibly get $150+ profit but you have to spend the 60 dollars first.

    • I'd go 3rd gen AirPods. The other two options (2nd gen and Pro) are both relatively old now and often see pretty significant discounts already.

  • It would be a trifecta if SB or CR upsize their cash back within the same time frame 😉

    • CR did 5% during mid-Feb last year. Might worth waiting if u r not in a rush

      • mid-Feb? Do you think they'd do one this month since I noticed they did either 5% or 8.5% cash back in Oct, Nov and Dec?

    • +7

apples to oranges. used to moan about apple prices but say what you want. they excel in user experience and godly battery life.

      • Hey, a month ago I was saying to everyone I knew that Apple's laptops were better value compared to Windows laptops. They all thought I was crazy but I was 100% convinced.

The largest downside to Windows laptops are horrible battery life and build quality, but honestly, I would take those hits for a $2000/$2500 3070 laptop. Also, with a Windows laptop I am able to pretty much use my VR headset anywhere, which is currently unsupported on MacOS (and even Parallels I believe…?).

        • +13

          You aren't the target customer.

          • -1

            @vodamerc: But… I want to be.

I have a genuine need for a new laptop (Eng/CompSci student) and the "all day" battery life + build quality + portability seem perfect for me, but I'm starting to feel like these laptops are tailored towards video editors.

I just want something powerful that can suit my needs and it just so happens that Apple's offerings are more tailored towards creative professionals and the others are tailored towards 'gamers'.

            • +7

@BigRiggs24: advice from a current softie in industry. there's a reason apple MacBooks are the go to devices, especially with greater m1 on the horizon which have sped up dev times and reduce developer frustration in our trials.

having said that, most engineering courses require windows which doesn't really work that well with m1 so your options are limited

              • @AH: Thanks for the genuine advice.

                • +3

@BigRiggs24: no worries. study hard and get that 6 figure salary straight out of uni :)

            • +1

@BigRiggs24: if you don't need 2 in 1 touch screen laptop or gaming, I think macbook air M1 is great value. But just get what you want, you are the one using it. I bought a Macbook air and Dells 2 in 1 laptop for my 2 childs when they start high school, as recommanded by shool/

              • +2

@stevelo: OP is studying Engineering/comp sci. An M1 MacBook is not really suitable I would think. It can’t emulate windows and that would be needed.

                • @entropysbane:

                  OP is studying Engineering/comp sci.

increasingly institutions are providing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to students and employees, in addition to or as a substitute for (notionally, less secure) Remote Access VPN and (more expensive) end-point (software) licensing. User's computer vendor/OS becomes irrelevant.

                  • @AlexF: If so that would be awesome as miss entropy starts engineering this semester and she has her two year old MBP.

            • +1

@BigRiggs24: It sounds like you don’t quite know what you actually want/need.

Does this work if you buy JB? Or only Apple and Edu store?

I have $1000 worth of GC from the $69 phone deal earlier

    Thnaks

    • +1

From my previous experience, you can ask for similar offers in store by showing your student ID. But different store to store, u can ask in less popular stores as they might need this kind of KPI.

    • +2

      Apple only.

You can try negotiate with JB but they probably won’t move much particularly if you aren’t a perceived student. They have an active 10% promotional discount however for Macs, hwoever line-up more limited.

      • +1

        Thanks, will try.

For my daughter who’s in yr7 next year

        • I thought this promo is for uni student age 18+ only? Curious to know because my son also going to year 7 soon

    • +1

I did ask JBH Chatswood before and they were happy to match up for me. I bought my ipad air there with free airpords 2. It really depends on which store I think.

    • +1

You could use your GC and buy Apple gift card and buy Apple product with Apple , I did this last time and worked

      • Ooh haha never thought of it that way!

        Thanks

      • "13.Gift Cards are not redeemable for other Gift Cards."

        • +1

I thought that only applies when buying same store gift cards (i.e. buying JB hifi gift cards with JB hifi gift cards)? I've bought Steam gift cards using JB Hifi GCs before.

        • I've bought the apple card in JB HIFI just a week ago. dont think this applys

          • @pygha: Oh so you bought apple gift card by using jbhifi gift card?

            • @Rlogarisation: I also bought apple gift card with with JB gift card. No issue.

          • @pygha: I think u were just pretty lucky, otherwise we could easily convert 15% off TCN gift card into apple gift card by purchasing any item and get refunded jbhifi gift card by return the item.

            • +2

              @Rlogarisation:

otherwise we could easily convert 15% off TCN gift card into apple gift card by purchasing any item and get refunded jbhifi gift card by return the item

That sounds like too much hassle.

TCN (and for that matter, Ultimate) gift cards are EFTPOS or Visa gift cards that can only be spent at participating retailers, and some TCN or Ultimate gift cards can be redeemed at JB Hi-Fi. There is currently nothing in JB Hi-Fi's POS system to automatically stop you from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for Apple gift cards, and in fact, there's currently no policy stating you cannot do that. It is at the staff's discretion whether to allow this, and at least one OzBargainer had plenty of success using TCN gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards at JB Hi-Fi.

The only limitation JB Hi-Fi places on TCN or Ultimate gift cards is that they cannot be used to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

In regards to JB Hi-Fi gift cards, the clause you quoted before states:

Gift Cards are not redeemable for other Gift Cards.

However, you left out the definition of Gift Cards in clause 1 of the same gift card terms and conditions:

JB Hi-Fi Gift Cards (Gift Cards)

              Therefore:

              • You cannot use JB Hi-Fi gift cards to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards. The reason someone may want to do this would be to convert 10x $50 JB Hi-Fi gift cards into 1x $500 JB Hi-Fi gift card.

              • You can use JB Hi-Fi gift cards to purchase other gift cards sold at JB Hi-Fi (e.g. Apple gift cards, Nintendo eShop gift cards, Steam gift cards). If staff try to stop you from doing that, it may contravene JB Hi-Fi gift card terms and conditions (and JB Hi-Fi has previously contravened their own gift card terms and conditions…).

              • +1

@WookieMonster: thank u so much for the detailed explanation, I will definitely have a try tomorrow

            • +1

@Rlogarisation: i tried multiple time at multiple stores, all worked, some stores limited 5 gift cards, but it's up to managers decision i believe

  • +1

The good thing is mac mini is included this year. A great value if you need a desktop pc equivalent.

  • +1

Kid you not - I placed a $5K+ order an hour ago. A noble OzBargainer sacrifice I was willing to take for the team.

Luckily cancel and reorder is a thing!

        Professional student.

  • Worth paying 60 extra for 3rd gen airpods?

    • +1

pretty annoying when i first wear it but eventually that's fine, much more better battery but awful fitting

    • +1

Smaller size, better sound, better battery and more water resistant.

Down-side is the fit has changed (more bulky) from the original AirPods, which donned the universally loved EarBud design.

    • Yes, https://youtu.be/LcI6F_GPwfE

No if it doesn’t fit right in your ears and fall out easily

    • Probably. Water resistant is nice. Battery is much better too, which is important since it only degrades over time.
