Sounds good price for quality TV. I previously bought box damaged items from Sony. Those were like brand new.

Sony has a awful lot of damaged boxs its been happening for years .

    • +4

I actually think the opposite. There should be more box damaged models especially the bigger ones:)

Can some Sony or delivery drivers or appliance retail employees please damage some z9j's ?

    • +1

Isn't it a replacement of term "customer returned"?

    • +2

The box damaged Sony TVs are usually not damaged at all. They just describe it like that to shift excess stock.

    • +6

Its just marketing and legal speak, to protect their margins and brand pricing power, not actually any damaged boxes. i.e. how to lower the price without cheapening the brand name or piss off retailers.

Why have sales when you can claim the "damage" as a loss in the books

Why have sales when you can claim the "damage" as a loss in the books

That makes no sense. Writing excess stock off is a way to limit loss. ie you might only lose 50-80% of the value rather than 100%. Losing money is not a sustainable way to run a business (obvious I would've thought, but here we are…)

          • @1st-Amendment: This is the case because the margins on TVs can be quite big (probably the point that wasn't understood by @krisspy) meaning that the box damaged price is still way more than the cost price (which would get written off)

Do their app store have plex?

    • +2

It's Android. So I believe you can install Android apps including Plex.

    • +1

      yes it does

Thanks for posting, my mum just asked me to find her a smaller TV for a reasonable price. Job done!

You are welcome. When I was a child, 24 inch TVs were considered big :)

      • Wow, you’re young… when I was a kid.. 13” was considered big :(

        • I thought anything above 7" was big?

  • Any reviews on this? Everything I'm reading makes it sound pretty shit.
    How is it for gaming?

    • +1

It's restricted to 60Hz for gaming unfortunately. Otherwise it's pretty good TV for the money, as a TV.

    • +1

It's a good PC monitor for normal stuff, not so much games.

  • If it's the model I'm thinking of, it's actually pretty good as a 4k monitor. Has 4:4:4 capability with a good panel.

  • Bought one of these a few weeks back…for anyone wondering it was brand new and works great

    • How much you paid after all discounts/vouchers?

      • A bit more than this, think it was $775 all up or something. This is a great price i think

  • +1

I've bought 2 of these box damaged 49" TV'S, from Sony ebay in recent weeks (paid $737, so not that heartbroken), can confirm both TV's and the boxes were brand new. Great items too.

  • One good thing about Sony TVs is they usually come with decent speakers

  • looking for a ~50" around this price for the ps5, current one (hisense) has some bad input lag and is even worse when on 4k (which only works when hdcp is off for some reason)
anyone use this with a ps5 to comment on how well it works with it?

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought one. Good price.
    Have already got a 55 inch, need a 50 inch-ish for a different location.
Keep in mind this was from their 2020 release.

  • What is the consensus on TVs marked as "Seconds" on the Sony store? They have the same model for $699 listed, which would come down to $594 if the 15% eBay Plus code applies.

EDIT: Turns out that's the 43" model - I'm not a details person. Still, interested in any experiences with these refurbished/seconds models.

    • Got a 43" "seconds' from Sony for the bedroom a couple of years ago, looks and feels brand new, functioning perfectly

Boxed damaged is often the supplied trying to move stock that retailers will no longer take or stock they do not wish to serve to retailers as they want them to take new models. It's in their commercial agreement they cannot sell good tv's so they say 'damaged box'. Sometimes you will even see where they give the box a love tap to hold good to that mantra, sometimes they don't.

    • Any difference in warranty versus a new tv?

      • 12 months Sony manufacturers warranty

Mine just arrived..only small tear on the box
