Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 12.4" i5-1035G1/8GB/128GB SSD Laptop $766 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

190

Not the cheapest C&C price ever, was $744 before but still a good deal for those looking for a more premium, very portable laptop for productivity/study before classes start next month.

No stock at Officeworks to pricematch it with, if you don't like buying from HN you could have a go at price matching this with JB HI FI or The Good Guys who have stock (they both have this spec on sale for $933). HN also has the 256GB model for $200 extra, however for productivity you can get by with 128GB + cloud storage.

No backlit keyboard and the display isn't the highest resolution, you'd expect there will be compromises at this price.

$744 from Jbhifi last 2 weeks. but not bargain

I was transparent about that in the first sentence of this post. $744 was the all time low C&C price, with it hovering between $777-795 on a good sale typically.

If you don't need a comparable laptop soon you could wait and see if it'll get to $744 again or lower, however considering Microsoft announces new Surface products in Sep/Oct, who knows how many weeks you'll wait again for that price.

      • I bought it during the last iPad3 trade in program, I won't buy if not because of the trade in

I'm here for obligitory dont buy from Gerry Harvey that said Microsoft have it at $934 so… price match elsewhere?

    • +3

Pretty sure you can get microsoft to PM HN

      • +1

        or JB Hi-Fi

  • For this price I'd get a second hand Book from Marketplace with a bit better specs, just make sure it's been treated well.

    • but what if you really hate the iOSphere?

      • +1

Why are you bringing up Apple?

        • you said book… was a bad assumption my bad

    • That is a different laptop for a different market. This is a budget laptop

      • -1

Yes…it is…My point is you can get a second hand one in good nick for the same price of this budget laptop…

        • Once again, it's literally a different market. The Surface Book is detachable, heavier and bigger. Plus, won’t come with any warranty.

          • @kerfuffle: 100% agree… my daughter and I spent an hour going through the laptops at jb and it was all to test aesthetics and weight… Xps,mac book air and this were her stand outs… This is easily half the price of the other two so definitely has a well thought out target market..

Note I'm an IT pro of 20+ years lol it was insanely difficult to listen to a different point of view… Have to admit definitely a fair one.

  • is this like a chromebook?
    kids need one for school…

      is this like a chromebook?

      Windows laptop.

    • +2

More capable than a Chromebook. It would be a very good option if the price is right for you.

  • Does this has thunderbolt 3 ?

    • Nah it doesn't, the USB-C port only does 10Gbps data transfer, USB-C PD charging & display/audio out (over DisplayPort 1.4 alt mode).

  • Ive had one of these for about six months. Only downside to laptop is 1) Fans spin up with little effort 2) no back light on keyboard and 3) slow/small SSD drive. Otherwise, its actually pretty awesome little device. Good screen, keyboard and somewhat enough power to do most things other than gaming. If i had to pick, id still lean toward Surface laptop 4, but if u are tight for cash, definitely worth the cash. OR you can wait for laptop go 2, which will get refreshed this year….might fix the backlight on keyboard.

  • Sorry forgot to mention, BEST part of the laptop is the screen aspect ratio, its a 3:2 screen. Which is a JOY to use. And i will never buy another 16:9 laptop again

    • its a 3:2 screen.

Same here, like Andriod tablet I don't like 16:9

  • Bought one of these direct from Microsoft last month for $744 ( only the silver one was at that price). So far very happy with it. I did increase the font size to 117% to make it easier to read the screen and now it's much easier on my eyes. So far, I have left mine in windows 11S mode as I don't need any programs or apps that aren't available from the app store, I think Edge browser is better than chrome, and S mode another layer of protection. It can be taken out of S mode easily, but once it's out, you can't go back to S mode. I do very basic things with this, web browsing, youtube, social media and its fast with what I do on it. Microsoft claim 13 hrs of battery, but that's never going to happen, I would say probably closer to 6hrs. Ports are a little limited, But I purchased a cheap adaptor from Kmart for $19 that does the trick.

  • Looks like Microsoft is matching Harvey Norman
Could maybe get 1.5% on CashRewards (I’ve never used this) for 4 QF PP$

  • Can you still upgrade to windows 10 pro for free?

    • It's not a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro; you have to buy it yourself. A free upgrade to Windows 11, yes (if it doesn't already come with 11)

    • From S mode to 10 not pro.
