I'm sitting here staring at my Coles bag full of 30 lighters wondering when I'm going to receive my gift cards 🤦‍♂️

    • Same, cause i wanna go get more

    • Looks like you have paid for everyone else's $50 gift cards. Of course right after this weber will run a 50% sale….

      • LOL…we can hope.

Weber seems to be a bit like Apple with their sales.

  • I bought 3 . I just want some cheaper accessories. Like a new cover. The last one the Velcro fell apart

  • Registered my receipts again after realising I'd chopped the bottom barcode off (though never had any advice telling me it was rejected).

Gotta love the message after registration: "Need to register more than one purchase? Simply click REGISTER and follow the prompts to submit your new registration form again", and then when you try they tell you that you can't do that more than once a day!

A poorly run promotion can do more damage to a brand than good (three brands in this case).

    • Once per day limit was sneqkily only added in this week

      • Yeah…they're really making this up on the fly.

    • Why shop off bottom barcode?

      • Shop off? Maybe it gives a discount?

Chop off? Receipt was really looooonnnngg.

I mean…I didn't get the bottom of the receipt in the pic I took for them. I didn't literally cut it off. I thought I had all the necessary information, but then decided to look at the example they post on the registration page (where the barcode number is hi lighted). Oops.

    • and the next day when you try uploading the same receipt (that you couldn't submit because of daily limit) the website will tell you the "Receipt is used"

      Very poor campaign indeed….

  • If you purchase something that is less than $50, can you keep the balance to make a second transaction?

    • Yes, it acts like a normal gift card

  • +1

    Received gift card today

    • annoying getting them in trickles. $50 doesn't get you very far at the weber store lol

    • Yep, 1 of my 5 remaining arrived about an hour ago…

  • Anyone received their codes today or just gift cards?

  • When did people receiving emails/codes actually register - registered 2 on the 13th and one on the 17th and haven't seen anything back yet?

    • +1

registered 5 claims (5 receipts) on 13th at about 5pm, all codes and gift cards received now. i used all the same details, ensured i selected the correct lighter type (it was confusing) and my photos were taken on my phone in the correct orientation

  • weber site down for maintenance! hopefully not to update the site and change the type of vouchers we receive…

    • There is a copy of the original T&C in this thread. Surely this can be used to challenge it…

    • Correct me if I’m wrong, but seems like only some people who submitted prior to the 13/14th have received codes and/or gift cards since. If you received a code, gift cards are trickling through as I guess they’ve already ‘approved’ them. Feel like this won’t end well for those who submitted after the 14th…

      • +1

Submitted 7pm on the13th. Nothing came through so far

        • One of mine came through, finally

    • website is back up but doesn't seem there was a change to gift cards checkout process

  • I just phoned them. Their new policy is to only release 1 code every 72 hours. Removes any opportunity to stack them.

    • Clearly they don't know the expiry of the cards…..

      • 3 years expiry date on gift cards

        • What's the chance they invalidate them after 3 days?

          • @nkrdlyk: I claimed and received mine on the 17th of January and used it to order on the 23rd. The 72 hour expiry means nothing.

          • @nkrdlyk: i highly doubt it, that would be creating more work for them which they are clearly struggling with. i'm sure you could go to fair trading and let them know of the dodgy T&C changes if that does occur. my gift cards from 10 days ago are still active

      • +1

Guess I’m waiting 48 days for my 16 cards and then heading to the Weber Store

Pretty dumb that they keep making up all the rules as they go though

    • Doesn't make sense. Once you claim the gift card they are valid for a long time lol

    • So you can still submit a claim every 24hrs, but will only receive the code every 72hrs? Just as long as they recommence sending out codes I don't mind…

      • just submit using differnet email/phone

        • They're also stating technical problems are impacting their registrations of new receipts

  • "Please be reminded that your Reward Voucher Code is valid for 72 hours from today for you to use online via the Weber website for BBQ purchases only."

They send you the code and then you activate your gift card. They will only activate each new one 72 hours after your previous one was activated.

    • Am I misunderstanding? That quoted bit is literally in the email.

      • +1

It wouldn't make a difference in terms of stacking (just time to receive the gift card), the Weber gift card they send has an expiry of 3 years.

Either way, it's ridiculous they're changing the terms so much on the fly.

  • As if their system is sophisticated enough to even track and release the code one by one. I call BS. They look to be struggling to process the claims as they come in and they add in another process that will make it even more difficult on themselves? What happens if someone has lodged 50 claims? One every 72 hours will take 150 days to finish up lol their promo is meant to end in march after they draw the winner of the major prize

    • It's done by date of purchase, not date of submission.

I'm wary that they're claiming technical difficulties to pull the comp.

      • Very strange. Their own Page says multiple entries are allowed.
If their concern is stacking of gift card they should fix that instead.

        • 1800 951 189 if anyone elses wants to fish for some information.

          • @nkrdlyk: Probably not much point. They themselves don't even seem to know what is going on and continue to change their tune. Not much else we can do other than wait and see.
If this promo really applies to bbq purchases only, I highly doubt they will ever get to the 10m worth of prize on offer. Lol

  • +1

What's the odds Coles will see an influx of bic lighter returns in the coming week?
I know I'll be returning my stash if no vouchers issued - lodged 8 claims between the 13-19th with no luck so far.

    • I'm going to be patient on this one, but I feel the same way. I only bought them for this promotion and if they don't honour it, I don't feel the need to keep a lifetime supply of them.

      • +1

agreed. i am not returning ones that i have claimed for, that to me is not in the spirit of the promotion/morally wrong.
i'll happily use them for secret santa presents because lighters are actually quite useful :)

  • +1

Well got my other 3 codes now to claim.a voucher, but I noticed my first voucher has gone to $0 balance even though expiry is 2025. I guess the 72 hours thing is real.

    • dammit! looks like hte only way forward is to register claims using different email/phone numbers for each, hoping that vouchers come in a similar timeframe

      • If i've already registered all of mine, could I wait until I get all the access code emails, then register them all at once and hope the vouchers come in around the same time so I can use them within 72 hours at a Weber store? It's only the registration page that's one per day isn't it

        • i guess you could try with 2 or 3 and have some 100+ and under 50 things to buy

          • @leeroys_dad: Oh man, i just saw that the email and T&Cs changed to say to use it online only and doesn't mention anything about physical Weber stores.

If anyone could confirm please let me know, otherwise I guess i'm getting a crapload of accessories.

            • @Chickenleg: if i was you i would also be lodging with fair trading, ACCC, whichever gov agency is responsible for the oversight of the promotion. i have received most of my vouchers so i am not lodging (from today i dont have time to follow as closely) and it is pure BS that T&C can be altered like this without ramifications. USUALLY 'reserve the right to alter the promotion' has restrictions on it as they cannot use it to change the effect of the promotion, which i believe they have

  • Finally got the rewards code after 2 weeks. Is the GC sent instantly?

  • if anyone can use a $1.45 voucher please PM me

  • After registering my two receipts again on the weekend, I just received a voucher code (for the first, because I had to do them a day apart of course).

"The $50 Weber Voucher will expire in 72 hours. Please do not activate your Reward Access Code until you are ready to redeem your $50 Weber voucher."

    We'll see.

    • hm.. i registered two weeks ago…

might have to register my receipts again…

      • Yeah…I had done mine originally on the 15th. I had cut off the barcode at the bottom of the receipts in my original submission, and after checking their example realised that it may have been a problem, so I did it again.

Never know though…maybe this code was for my original submission (but probably not).

  • anyone confirmed today whether we can still buy accessories with the giftcard?

    • Well they're still saying "Please be reminded that the $50 Weber Rewards Voucher is valid for use on Weber BBQ purchases only" on the code e-mail. I'll update when I get my voucher. I really need some more convection trays and other bits, but I'll take a little Smokey Joe if I need to.

    • +1

One voucher I received yesterday still works on accessories.

      • Thanks for confirming.
Ridiculous there is so much inconsistency to their T&C.

        • I agree, the most poorly run promotion I've ever seen, incompetence at its finest.

    • Just got mine today and purchased an accessory

  • +1

Time to complain to fair trading . I would encourage everyone to complain and attach the original T&C as they will get a juicy fine.

Ill be returning my lighters today

    • Each $50 Weber reward voucher will be administered by the Buy & Win with BIC customer service team. You will be sent an email requesting your choice of Weber BBQ, payment details for the remaining balance after the $50 Weber voucher reward has been deducted and delivery details. The team will then process your order and send order confirmation to your nominated email address.

    • Each $50 Weber voucher reward is valid for 72 hours only, you must respond to the email with your choice of Weber BBQ and delivery details within this timeframe. The $50 Weber voucher reward has been awarded with the understanding that it will not be extended beyond this expiry date.

    • +1

The original T&C are captured on Wayback Machine, just FYI

      https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.bicbuyandwin.com.a…

    • let us know how you go returning the lighters,

are you going to try do all 30 at once?

      • +1

        5 at a time.

        • I would be asking BIC for reimbursement of the lighters given the promotion T&C have drastically changed

    • Given they never planned for this to be the process, I'm not sure anyone should feel comfortable with handing over payment details to the BIC customer service team? How do you even know if they have a secure system that will protect your credit card details from hackers?

  • Has anyone been issued a Weber gift voucher which has already had most of its value redeemed?

I was issued a voucher yesterday, I believe it had $50 value showing when I checked yesterday, but when I went to redeem today it's now showing only 5c value.

I suspect they are issuing the same voucher to multiple people.

    • Mine is $0, I assumed it was because I had it for a week unused.

  • Can we consolidate the fair trading links & where to report to

  • So the ACCC don't take individual complaints. It looks like it's we have to go through the OFT.

    • +1

ACCC are more of the higher level stuff. Local trading authorities are the go, yes. But really…it's probably effort for no reward. I don't think there was any ill intent here….just a bit of a learning curve for somebody.

      • +1

I think the fact it's a nationally advertised competition (instore) with promotional material in possible all Coles stores would probably have it on the fence, but it would probably do nothing more than a warning of sorts for Bic

  • Called them on Friday. They said, even though 3 claims done on 1 day.

That only 1 claim can be done at a time. Looks like they're trying to limit who can claim, or their system can't deal with so many claims. Pretty poor effort if you ask me.

    • +1

      whole promo is a fizz

      obviously didn't think it through

    • Yet they took the time to add a link to register additional claim after lodging one haha

    • Not strictly true, there are people who submitted multiple claims on the same day and were successful with it. Has anyone actually told them that we have the original T&C and are prepared to go to the ACCC is they do not honour the original terms?

      • The first 5 claims I submitted on the 17th went through fine and they all came through within 24 hours. I claimed the gift card and used them already so this promo hasn't been for nothing for me personally but not holding my breath for my remaining claims

  • +1

Time to return everything, BIC have butchered it

  • -3

I am greatly amused that the people that seem most angry and ready to escalate to the ACCC or whatever, appear to be the same people that saw an opportunity to scam the promotion (because it was so poorly designed and delivered). And some of those intend to return their BIC purchases after they have redeemed the promotion.

I bought a BIC lighter quite a few days after this post on OzB, so knew of some of the 'issues' that people were encountering. Nevertheless, I made the purchase and submitted my claim. No outcome yet, apart from having a BIC lighter at a price that I considered ok.

    • +1

appear to be the same people that saw an opportunity to scam the promotion (because it was so poorly designed and delivered). And some of those intend to return their BIC purchases after they have redeemed the promotion.

I don't think it's quite so cut and dried labelling people as trying to "scam" for buying multiple items when the T&C's originally stated that much was fine. Those returning / rebuying / intending to return after getting the gift cards then that's definitely fair of the label.

We all knew it was a bit of a long shot going in so the outrage probably does need to be tempered a little, but I don't think the company running the promotion should just fire away changing the T&C's as they see fit.

    • I wouldn't say it's a scam as there's no deception on the user's part to enrich themselves. If anything, it's BIC's problem with leaving such a massive gap in the T&C's where I can fit an A380 through. If they've just made it one claim per household like a lot of other promos, none of this debacle would've existed - everyone gets their $50 and BIC sell more overpriced and throwaway lighters.

    • +1

      It Amateur hour .
The true pros never return anything and never complain .

    • +1

Many have no intention of returning the lighter if BIC held up their end of the bargain. Evidently BIC is not holding up their end and constantly reworking the T&Cs. Should consumers just sit idly by and get screwed in your mind?

If a consumer bougt a BIC lighter because they were promised a $50 weber voucher (with no limitations), why should we not be allowed to return the lighter when the T&C changes?
