This is an amazing price for this Bosch blue-line Li-Ion cordless drill and impact driver. I bought the drill alone from Bunnings for $382 in late 2009, it goes for around $300 now. The impact driver is about $500 locally (they come with 2.6Ah batteries here though).

You'll need a stepdown converter for the charger (about $24), OR a 240V charger ($46+ship).

Shipping to Australia is US$34.87. The set itself is US$155.

This is an Amazon Gold Box deal which expires in 22 hours (or when sold out), so be quick!

    • After umm'ing and ahh'ing all night, I decided to buy one for myself too (the last one was for work). It's cheaper than buying 2 new li-ion batteries!

  • +1

Curse you OzBargain! Got another set…

  • Bought one. Thanks OP

  • if i were to buy these to drills and this charger
    https://www.alltools.com.au/shop/index.php/746/4370_Bosch_Ch…
would they work fine, just plug in power point and charge away or would i need to buy a step-down transformer?

    thanks guys.

    • +1

Same one as qmatthew posted earlier. It's fine - just connect the batteries to it. You'll need the step down transformer only if you use the charger from the US.

    • +1

That's a 240V charger so you can just plug it in and charge away. If you don't need the 30-min fast charging feature, the 60min charger is even cheaper at $46:
      https://www.alltools.com.au/shop/index.php/746/4375_Bosch_Ch…

      • Hey eug, any advantage using a 240V charger? Or is it just convenience?

        • +1

It's just convenience - you won't have an extra stepdown transformer taking up room. There'll be fewer wires running everywhere too. If you can pickup, I reckon the $22 difference is worth it (stepdown is $24, a 240V charger is $46)

      • shipping will cost $14.6 to Sydney

      • $16.10 shipping to Brisbane

  • i want to buy a drill that can drill the bathroom tiles, so i can fit the handrail
    which drill do i need???
    hammer or impact?

    • +1

neither, just a regular drill (like the one that comes in this combo pack). You need a special tile drill bit though, easily purchased from Bunnings. You can use a masonry bit but it'll take looonger.

You should put some tape over the spot you want to drill and drill through that - it'll help prevent the bit from wandering.

  • thank you for ur reply
    how about drill the brick???
i think i also need to drill the brick sometimes
    which driver do i need???

    • You'll want an impact/hammer drill, which doesn't come in this combo pack.

You can turn off the hammering action in an impact/hammer drill, so you can use it for drilling tiles too.

        • +1

If you don't mind the $349 price, that's a really good drill. Very tough.

On the other hand, if you get the $155 combo and that $133 hammer drill, it'll cost less and you'll get 4 batteries in total, as well as an extra drill! :)

It doesn't sound like you'll be doing hardcore stuff, so the $133 hammer drill should work very well for you. Just don't expect to drill large holes in concrete - you'll want a rotary hammer for that.

(and that's how your tool collection will start growing.. and growing.. and growing…..)

  • I will probably only drill it once or twice on the bathroom
and once on the brick to install the stupid ikea billy bookshelf
without mount it on the wall, the weight is unbalanced and will lean forward and fall over.
really stupid shelf. unfortunately my living room's wall is plasterboard and brick inside.

    • Is there a large gap between the plasterboard and brick?

If the load isn't too high, you might be able to use a spring toggle to keep the bookshelf against the wall:
      http://www.ramset.com.au/Product/Detail/88/Spring-Toggle-Cav…

That way you won't need a hammer drill.

      • i got that one, doesnot work
the gap is only about 30mm

i think i will get the hammer drill for sure just in case if i need to drill concrete one way
by the way, one more quesiton

the op bundle has one drill and one impact drill
why do we need a normal drill when we have the impact drill??
        do they have different use???
i just googled it and it seems people prefer to use impact drill to assemble furnitures

        • +3

Ahh, it's actually an impact driver, not an impact drill. They sound similar, but are very different.

An impact drill hammers the drill bit into the surface as it spins the bit.

An impact driver 'hammers' rotationally. It also hammers downwards like an impact drill (concussive force), but the bulk of the force is rotational. It's the equivalent of tapping a wrench with a mallet to remove a tight bolt.

As a result, the impact driver can 'unscrew' a lot harder than a normal drill. The drill in this bundle can put out 56Nm of torque, while the impact driver can put out 160Nm - nearly triple the 'turning strength'. It also spins faster - 2800rpm vs 1600rpm. There's no clutch however, so you need to be careful when working with smaller items. I'd suggest using the clutched drill for screwing in that situation.

You can't use this impact driver as a drill as it doesn't have a chuck. You could use hex-shank drill bits, but really, you should be using a drill to drill. :)

  • +1

Damn it! Just bought this from amazon a week ago and it worked out to $225 shipped.

Just a note to everyone who buys this - be very careful as it comes in an obvious box with a big picture of the drill on it and Bosch written all over it (retail box) the standard shipping option uses i-Parcel which is delivered via Australia post without requiring a signature.

Suddenly one day the tracking was suddenly marked as delivered and I hadn't received it. I was home all day on the day it was "delivered" and didn't hear a knock or see the delivery driver. I suspect that the delivery driver had stolen the drill or it may have been stolen off my front door step. Contacted amazon support and they resent another one with free upgrade to DHL. The DHL order came quickly and was delivered by couriers please BUT again didn't require a signature and was just left at the door. If the drill had been stolen again I wonder if Amazon would've believed me?

Awesome drill and driver by the way - the driver is truly amazing, has so much torque. Best combo I have ever used. Highly recommend it! Only downside is it comes with a fairly cheap looking Bosch bag instead of a hard case to put them in.

    • Are you using a step down transformer or did you purchase a 240v charger?

      • Using a stepdown transformer identical to the one in the OP's post. Works fine and charges very fast. Keep in mind if getting the stepdown transformer it is very heavy (it's just a massive transformer) so if you like to take your drill away from home it will really bulk up your bag.

    • Thanks for mentioning the lack of any hard plastic carry cases. I just assumed they each came with one.

  • I was going to buy the ryobi one set, but this looks like a much better deal thanks op

  • sold out

edit: back in stock but change to 199usd
    noooooooooo

i was deciding which one i should get and now the price went up insane

    • +1

      ozbargained. lol

    • Not only that but as it is not shipped by Amazon direct the shipping is ~$120

  • Out of stock :( I would of really jumped on this amazing bargain, only check early this morning

  • So tempted even though I can't think of an immediate use for it, and I am not even going to pretend to be a home handyman.

    • Its sold out now. The one that shows as available now is not shipped by Amazon, its $199 instead of $155 and the shipping is about $120 to Australia instead of ~$34

  • The drill is a waste of time, not at all usefull. As I made the mistake of buying it a couple of years ago. This is alot better deal

    Moz

    • For $207 I would have got that set instead; but unfortunately they don't ship that to Aus. The next price up is $299. :(

    • Why so, what's wrong with it, durability? It is supposed to have good power to weight.

  • Apart from the step down transformer, is there anything else we need to get if we buy this?

    • +1

      Errr - drill bits?

    • A dustpan and brush

  • I never buy tools or the like locally. Rip offs. Another great drill/driver is the Makita LXT218. Tool shops locally sell them for $699 but I picked up the exact same kit from Amazon for a bit over $220 delivered. Excellent drill/driver combo.

    • That is a great price. There are mod for the Makita charger on the internet to convert it to 240V too.

      • Yeah that's what most people do but I bought a Aus 240V charger for about $70. Still cheaper then tools shops here

  • ok now that I've bought a drill - where can I learn more about using it ?! I'm no DIY expert by any stretch of the imagination. And I don't want to have to post on this topic, asking the deal poster Eug, every time I need help!!

can anyone recommend a general DIY book or something similar?

  • i'd be quite interested when the 36V drill goes on sale, as other bosch items, like the lawnmower use the 36v Li-on battery

  • WOW Awesome price

  • Anyone knows whether the impact driver can be used to tackle car tyre nuts?

    • with ease, and the right socket

  • Anyone can teach me how to order the abovementioned Bosch drill tools at Amazon because I couldn't get through everytime when I click on "Ship to this address(my Autralian address)" then it shows "We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order."?

I couldn't find the information mentioned products could be shipped to Australia under the abovementioned Bosch drill tools and don't know where it calculates the exact international shipping fee according to Amazon's Australian shipping rates. I've wasted plenty of time to look for any possible ways I can to order the abovementioned Bosch drill tools to shipped to Australia and also tried searching from the following path: "Tools & Home Improvement › Amazon Global International Shipping › Bosch › Power & Hand Tools" to select the Bosch drill tools and they are still not working. I am really annoyed by the Amazon website and it really wastes my time.

    Many thanks in advance.

    • +3

The item at the sale price has sold out. You can still buy the item but it is not shipped by Amazon, and as is often the case, cannot be shipped to Australia. Amazon items usually always have a few different stock types, those that are in stock and shipped by Amazon, and others that are in stock at affiliated stockists and therefore are sometimes not applicable for international delivery. The initial page usually lets you know if the item cannot be shipped to you (if you are logged in of course).
      HTH :)

  • I just registered "Buy now with 1-Click" function then I could see the shipping info. Thanks Denlife for your help :)

  • Shipped! yay
    By iParcel. booo :(

    • :-(
Delayed by customs…. No longer ships to Australia…
Bit worried about the Li-Ion batteries not be able to be sent across.
Anyone has got any experience with Li-Ion batteries to be flown in from overseas?
      Worried now….

      • I've ordered laptops and phones from the US before, no problem with the batteries, the package just gets slapped with a "this package contains batteries" sticker.

They no longer ship to australia because the deal is over.

      • Me too. I grouped my purchase. I hope it was because the bits I bought was not ready to be shipped…

      • Did you guys actually get an email saying your order has been delayed by customs?

        • I can see it on the tracking page… Still "Customs clearance delay" and status "shipment delayed". That would be real pity, let's hope it just get a sticker and off to plane.

        • I had the same status as tm001, it said "Customs clearance delay", but I just checked mine and now it says "Arrival scan". Seems to be all good.

  • This was an awesome deal! Hopefully there will be some more power tool asles like this listed on ozbargain!

  • for those that ordered have you managed to buy an Aus charger, and if so what sort of prices are people paying?

  • I ordered 2 kits and one has:
    Latest Event: Carlstadt NJ
    Customs Clearance delay - April 13, 2012 2:14:01 AM.

    And the other is:
    Latest Event: Carlstadt NJ
    Arrival Scan - April 13, 2012 5:36:22 PM.

Don't know if one is through customs or just not at that point yet.
I can't see there being any problems as people order this stuff online all the time.
I'm guessing though it's probably going to look extremely strange to the customs department at Carlstadt NJ having all these Bosch kits being individually shipped to Australia.

  • apparantlty its back in stock and sold via amazon but doesnt ship to Australia anymore….

  • Thanks eug, picked up one of these. Can't wait to receive it. I went the step-down transformer route too, figured it was pretty small and will come in handy

  • Latest status
    " Departure scan Carlstadt NJ"
All looking good so far - 30th April anticipated Delivery

    • Same here, both of mine are listing departure scan.
So I'm guessing that means they on on the way to being in Aus posts hands where tracking is all but finished.

  • Well that was quick. My drills have arrived in Australia and are awaiting customs clearance.

BTW you can sign up for email tracking here:
    http://www.i-parcel.com/index.php

  • They canceled mine:

I'm writing to inform you that we've canceled the Bosch CLPK23-180 18V 2-Tool Lithium Ion Combo Kit from your order. We had to cancel the item because shipping restrictions prevented us from shipping the item to your region. You won't be charged for it.

    this crap!!!!!

    • Wow, how odd. Maybe there's a limit to how many they can shove into a plane. Although… they could have just waited for the next plane? Strange.

    • that is odd, considering how many of us have had ours shipped. Maybe Bosch got wind of it and didn't like us bypassing their distributors in Aus, and had words with teh Amazonz.

edit: mine's in the country too: April 17, 2012 11:21:15 PM AU Arrived at destination country

      • My two packages arrived at 11:20:00 and 11:20:12. Yours was scanned 11:21:15. They must have received a whole load of drills in that shipment!

      • they scanned mine first! :D

April 17, 2012 11:19:09 PM AU Arrived at destination country

        • Where about are you guys located? My tracking hasn't updated since it said it left USA.

Edit: Sorry my bad, didn't know I could just click on your usernames and it states where you are from. My apologies.

        • Mine just has a departure scan as well. Nothing noting it arrived in Australia yet.

        • Am also waiting for arrival in Oz(located in Sydney).
Last msg I got was departure scan on April 14th.
Reckon they can only fit so many drills onto a plane before they hit the weight restrictions.
Will be keen to hear if everyone gets theirs delivered after the (above) horror story about AusPost black holes.

        • You Bastard Demere! They scanned my first order on April 17, 2012 11:19:12 PM
You beat me by 3 seconds;-)
Added to that your located in Brissy and I'm goldcoast so unless the come via land from SYD and drop mine off on the way through I'm never going to make that 3 seconds back.

        • you just have to make it home from work faster.

        • also mine seemed to be the last scanned. Last on the truck = first off!!! :D

  • It's now back instock at Amazon for an extra $30 - but they no longer ship it Australia.

It is however, still listed in the International Shipping section !

  • my second scan in the country… hopefully it's in brissy now…

  • THANKYOU OP FOR POSTING THIS : )

    I ordered my at 3am on 13/04
Latest tracking is 11:36am 14/04 Departure scan Carlstadt NJ

Already have the aus model of this drill purchased around December 2010.
Got it from bunnings for $269 after price matching a place that had it for $299
And receiving the extra 10% off.

Can't fault it so far from its limited use.

also guys take care when using the impact driver as that have been known to break
    The odd wrist or 2.

Now to find a cordless Bosch blue sander, jigsaw and whatever else That can make me look like i make and fix stuff lol.

    • …and whatever else That can make me look like i make and fix stuff lol.

I'm pretty sure that was what Bosch had in mind when they designed most of their tools!

"Hey Hans…Ja Fritz…das ein Aussie look gut mit der ankle krinder unt der zander!" :)

  • Finally - for sydney-siders, we have arrival
April 19, 2012 01:57:00 PM AU Arrived at destination country

I signed up with i-parcel for email alerts, but have received zilch so far.

    • iparcel tracks till it's handed over to Australia Post. On the i-track tracking page, there's an auspost link near the top. That's pretty accurate.

      • Where's the auspost link? Cant seen anything on the page I'm using. Can you please send through the i-parcel link you are using.

        • +1

Enter in your iparcel number herE:
          http://www.i-parcel.com/secure/track.aspx

          On the second paragraph is:

You can link to it here: QPJxxxxxxx.

        • Thanks Eug. Looks like mine hasnt progressed far enough yet. The most recent scan is still the departure scan in the US.

  • Both of mine just came in through the door. That was a lot quicker than I expected!

  • Got mine today but worse packing ever. In the box is a soft bag, the two drills, charger and battery. However, the normal drill was just sitting loosely in the box with the battery connected. The impact driver was in a little box, wrapped in plastic without a battery connected.

    Seems to work ok though.

    • Two slips in the mail box as I missed them so I can pick up after 4:30pm

  • +2

I'm still showing as in transit to destination country… you guys are lucky… all the drilling I'll be missing out on this weekend :)

    • I'll think of you while I'm drilling this weekend.

      • ^^^^^ Rob the Dentist ^^^^

      • I appreciate it :)
Mine still isn't in the country :(

  • I ordered the Combo Kit with drilling/driving set on 12/04 but they canceled the Combo Kit order and still sending the drilling/driving set. Not happy

  • got mine as well… hehehe… thanks eug for the heads up! i'm a happy driller this weekend.. lol…

  • whatt the hell. why is mine and other peolpe still showing departing scan only??
happy for you guys that got them…
is the drill 1600rpm? 20 torque settings?
as said ordered 2-3am on 13/04
what times did others order that is au scanned atleast?

    • +2

I ordered at 7.40pm and 11.40pm on 12/04. I guess the next batch must have made it to the next plane or something.

      Yup 1600rpm, 20 torque settings.

It comes with a 2-sided philips bit and a pretty decent one-piece steel magnetic bit holder and a PH2 bit. The 1-piece construction lets it handle higher torque. I'd probably stick with Irwin Torsion bits though - they're reasonably priced (2ish bucks at bunnings) and are made of cold-forged steel (normal bits are milled steel), making them last way longer than cheapo bits that wear away quickly (leading to stripped screw heads). They fit directly onto the impact driver too.

Oh in Bunnings, the irwin bits are a bit cheaper if you get them from the bit box at the tools counter rather than the nicely packed ones hanging in the bit section.

      http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/productDetails.aspx?SKU=998…

  • Got mine this morning.

  • Picked my two kits up this afternoon then went to trade tools at Ormeau and the Springwood to get the chargers. They only had one in each store.
Trade tools has the 30min charger for $72 so if you can find a store with stock its the best price bar the WA Alltools which has sold out.

    • True. they can also order 60 minutes one for you for 54 dollars or something.

      • Does anyone know anywhere reasonably priced in melb? totaltools want $69 for the 60 min charger. Such a rip off. Considering shops that overcharge like that are the reason people go overseas anyway is reason enough I will not support them with a purchase.
