  • How many of these must they produce…

  • Good Price… waiting on mine from the Dessytek offer.

    • Me, too! (2x)

    • What - you haven't received yours? I ordered significantly later after the deal went live, and got it almost 2 weeks ago!

    • Mine Delivered on 10/04/2012 , Despatch Date 03/04/2012

    • Mine took 6 days to arrive yesterday

  • Does this one not come with the 250GB drive tht the Dessytek ones come with???
Can't see one listed in the specs.
    Beware?

    • Nvm. It is updated.

    Shipping to Perth:
    Australia Post eParcel - $12.05
    Australia Post + Insurance Cover - $18.95

    • Shipping estimates were to Sydney, that's why I wrote about $10.

      • No big deal, just putting it there to save people a precious 10 seconds.

        • I'll put it in the description. Thanks :)

        • +4

This is kind of funny. Postage to WA is the same as other non-NSW states, but WA has higher insurance cost. It appears our posties are 19% more dodgy than those in other states.

        • My Netplus RAM went missing with Aust. Post WA so you may be on to something.

    • That's quite decent shipping to Perth, thumbs up shopping express.
For a microserver shipped to Perth, Dessytek want $18 and i-Tech want $35 (pfft).

  • -3

    No hard or optical drive.

  • is the reduction for lack of hard and cd drive?

don't these come with 250gb hdd as standard?
why would anyone want to remove it and sell for few $$$s less????

  • +2

if this doesnt have the HDD then its not worth it.

    • +2

Really? Do you want my 250gb for $20?

      • -1

i believe u have to offer it for less than $11 for it to start to get my attention and be a bargain.

cuz the HP ProLiant N40L MicroServer +250gb can be had for $219

        • And it would have to include deivery too…. ;-)

        • +1

          Fine.. $10!

  • Good price as i already have too many spare hard drives, now time to find the money. Make it $200 posted, I am in.

  • Here we go again… time to get another one… long way from the 32 array of servers other people were testing it with.

  • +1

Going by the model number "658553-371" listed on the site it comes with a 250GB HDD

    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/sm/WF06b/15351-15351-42…

But yeah, they could be removing the drives and not updated the item code.

Great deal, but what is Shopping Express like?

Another great deal on the site is Toshiba SDHC Class 2 8GB for $3.95 http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/toshiba-sdhc-8gb-stand…

    • It is a shame the shipping on the SDHC is so high to WA:-

      Australia Post eParcel - $14.15
      Australia Post + Insurance Cover - $15.95

      • +1

Its $5 cap shipping on this item when WA is entered, there is a discount applied of $9.15 for eParcel

        • thanks crownanchor for explaining, you need to add our products to shopping cart to see the actual cost. Some of them have Shipping Cap such as $5 shipping cap. To know more about discounts & promotions, you can alternatively choose to subscribe to our newsletter.

They seem also to have a ring of -other- potentially bargain-price items all around their eBay-like item description for this item… worth a quick look.

  • +4

    Bought one. Great shipped price.
    And….. Drumroll. It's NOT megabuy

    • i bought this deal as i detest megabuys proliniant market tactics

  • +9

hi guys, just revised the specs on this model: it comes with 250GB hard drive x 1 installed.

    • oh good a rep! thanks. good to see a decent shipping price. where r u guys located? and what warranty return procedures like?

      • Hi mate,

We are located in Sydney NSW. For warranty procedures, I suggest you to refer to our warranty return policy link below for more detailed information (this product belong to 1 year manufacturer's warranty with 7 day DOA period):
        http://bit.ly/HCMSWf

  • Thanks op great deal.

  • So is this quit easy to setup into a NAS? Ideally want something to store some data and act as a continious backup (using Crashplan) and perhaps my downloading machine (Torrents, usenet, etc). Would that all be possible? Newb to the world of NAS/microservers

  • What would one of these go like for a Hyper-V box at home to play around with? Or not enough grunt?

    • I upgraded the memory to 8GB and setup AD, DNS, Hyper-v. Seems to be running well although I was not doing much on the server. I guess it will depend on what you will do on the virtual instance.

Some pretty good prices on the Seagates, thanks rep

  • +2

    Thanks OP

Been tossing about getting one, great deal delivered + insurance, sealed the deal.

    • Likewise. Couple of friday night beers then I came home and saw this and I was sold.

    • Same mate, now to find a suitable video card, TV tuner and more RAM :)

I put one of these video cards in. Can make it single half slot or dual half slot if you want to keep the VGA connector. It is also passively cooled and low profile, so fits in quite easily. The same card in different brands is around at a slightly cheaper price, but I know this one fits in comfortably.

Running Ubuntu on it with the gfx card doing video and audio over HDMI just with stock RAM, plays 1080p fine streaming over the network from my N36L :)

  • Have my i-tech one running smoothly with 2gb of RAM but would like 8gb. It needs to be pretty low profile to squeeze in - what RAM have you guys been upgrading it to?

    • Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
      ~1.5 years ago

    • I have updated the kingston 4GB Ram to $24, in case anyone wish to upgrade the memory.
      http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/kingston-kvr1333d3n9-4…

      • Any chance of making a similar deal for a suitable tv-tuner/video card? It would be great to be able to buy every component to build a media centre at once to save on postage.

        • Unfortunately i dont think we have them (tuner/video card) in stock yet, so not able to do deal and dispatch them on monday.
However, we welcome everyone to suggest or join discussions for products on/not on our store at our facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/ShoppingExpress
This might enable us to carry more complete range of products to suit your needs.

      • Damn, anyway to add a couple of these to an order placed earlier for the microserver?

        • +1

I can see you have specially made an account to ask this and i shall not disappoint you mate. What is your order number for the Microserver?

      • I can get 8gb delivered to 2120 for $43.75 from Megabuy (which I have never bought from and has a colourful reputation).

        http://www.megabuy.com.au/kingston-4gb-ddr3-1333mhz-pc3-1060…

If you can match or beat that, I'll buy from you.

  • I recently just got mine. It's amazing. I got an Asus GT520 passive cooler for it (I had to modify the heat sink a bit to make it fit in) and it's works well as a media server. It was horrible until I upgraded to 8gb of RAM but now it perfect.

  • Pickup?

    • Yeah rep, pickup possible?

      • Unfortunately we do not offer pickups. Reason: We do not have dedicated staff to handle this, and all our transactions are done using online system and our dispatch team concentrate on dispatching only to make things efficient and less confusing.

It's tempting as NAS, but what holds me back is that to have it operating 24/7 costs about $100/year in electricity (at 40 watts). Can anyone comment on how good these things are at "wake up on LAN", or scheduled "sleep"?

    • Mate I use mine for wake on lan with Itelepport Iphone app.
      It works a treat !
PS I would buy one of these if I could afford 4x 2TB hard disks to go with it :(

      • Thanks, that's very useful to know. It's easy to be tempted by the low ~210 purchase price, but I want to make sure it isn't offset by the running costs.

        • No worries honestly you wont regret buying one of these units. I wish I could afford a 3rd one.
I turn the computers on each time I want to watch a movie and turn them off when I am done.

  • A friend pointed out this bargain, as he knew I was looking to buy a N40L. So I just ordered mine too, thanks ShoppingExpress for providing nice price. Look forward to getting my unit by next weekend for some tinkering. Heard good things about these units.

    • No worries mate, we will try our best to dispatch all orders by monday.

      • +1

I'll check the order status on Monday night to see if it changes, although I am in Sydney so I don't imagine postage from your location to Sydney CBD will take more than a day or two.

Thanks for having this product at a good price. Been meaning to buy one of these. Now I have, guess I get to tinker on the weekend with it.

  • Hi rep, is it possible at all to order this with 8GB installed (ie. you keep the 2x1GB Ram)? And if so, what would be the price? Thx.

    • Hi Tekken,
We do offer a ram install service here:
      http://bit.ly/HUWUkE
If you checkout with this along with the ram and microservers into the cart, we will able to install the memory for you.

  • Special thanks to k for sharing this bargain and everyone else for liking this deal.
We have another special event coming up tonight 8-9pm AEST:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/67901

  • Bought one, though will buy Ram & Video card locally from MSY.

    • no worries matey. thanks for the support :). Hopefully we can make you buy all from us in the future.

The processor in these (AMD Turion™ II Model Neo N40L (1.50Ghz)) looks rather poor? At least, it scores 10% less on PassMark CPU benchmark than the Celeron E1400 (2.0Ghz) in an old Shuttle.

What do people think? For a low-use server running a Java CMS and some other applications? Of course, I will update the RAM to 8GB.

  • if i updated this to 8gb ram..and put a gt520 or something similar..
can i actually play heroes of newerth?

  • what's a Microserver"?

  • Thanks for this, just got one. Does anyone know of a good RAID 5 controller card that will fit in this ?

    • Does it need one? I'm thinking of raid 5 for mine too, I thought software could do it…
      Anyone know for sure??

      • I've got friends running Linux on them with software raid5, so it's certainly possible.

  • If the rep is still lurking around, when are we expecting delivery of these (Im in Melbourne)?

    • and cutoff time for the day? Sydney here. Also what shipping company are u using?

    • Hi Guys,

I will still check this link. We will try our best to dispatch all N40L orders that has been paid by today.
      Shipping Carrier: Australia Post
You will receive notification on your email once order has been dispatched, with the tracking number (please allow some time for austpost to update the tracking).

      • +2

Thanks for the update. If your delivery is as quick as your updates then you will have many happy new customers.

      • Did you have a cutoff time? or has it already passed for today

        • +1

you mean orders made today? We usually cut off around 2-3pm for monday's order (meaning most orders made before this time period has chance of same day dispatch). This monday will be slightly challenging, but will try our best. All dispatch notification for the day will be sent to customers' emails before 6pm.

    • You should expect the product by wednesday or thursday for melbourne. This is just an estimate, as we cannot control the delivery time frame for Austpost, we can only dispatch these units out of our warehouse asap.

      • +3

        Must resist purchase….. :'(

  • I just ordered 1 and paid this morning. When should I expect the Sydney delivery?

    • ShoppingExpress is saying they hope to have most dispatched today, as per comments further above.

I ordered on Saturday night, mine hasn't shown as shipped, as yet, but it's not the end of the day yet, so I am jumping the gun, but might give you an idea of what has or hasn't shipped.

    • Received mine yesterday morning. Thumps up for the service! ;)

I now got 2 of these babies.

  • ok ordered. hope it ships today. :D

    • My order updated to say it shipped.

    • +1

Just an update (after checking the warehouse): 80% of orders will go today (there are still constant orders coming through for this) - the warehouse packers are complaining they have no time to pack other products! Not sure if yours is going out today, but we should sort out all HP orders by tomorrow if we able to continue this momentum.

      • I'd hate to imagine the number of orders this generated. Quite busy I am sure.

        • Yeap, difficult day to keep on track to our dispatch promised time period.

  • +1

Just got the shipping notification. Lets hope it arrives all good. A+ for service so far!!

  • please let this promo expire before i buy another one. I already have 3 and my wife will kill me if i buy another one.

    • Crikey, what are you using three for? I have one and can't really justify about getting another one except for the lulz.

      • One is for Media storage using Win home server, another for Full server setup such as DNS, AD, Hyper-V, and the 3rd one is for NAS. Two servers are work related.
