      Hilariously overpriced

        Only 2MP 1080p resolution video?

This is the very example of an anti-bargain.

Also, wasn't there some announcement that Google is soon to retire their Nest security products.

Google Home Mini and Home Max was discontinued.

Google commits to supporting Nest smart home devices for 5 years

          • @Twix: From your linked article (and this is for Nest Secure only):

Google now has no commercial reason to continue to develop the software, and the company said to not expect any new features going forward. With today's announcement, we now know that the Nest Secure will continue to work and get security updates until at least November 2022. The product relies on the Google Cloud to work, so I would not put money on it lasting much longer than that.

That 5 years for other Nest devices could become 2 years or less if it fits Google's agenda.

@DoctorCalculon: By Nov 2022 the Nest Secure will be 5 years old.

Google Nest Cam Outdoor with Floodlight should get support until at least 2026.

After 2026, the camera will still function, but all the cloud hosted features such as human, pet & vehicle detection will probably cease to work making it a dumb camera at best.

This will be the same for the Nest smoke alarms, right?

                • @DoctorCalculon:

All carbon monoxide (CO) alarms expire because their sensors have a limited lifespan. To comply with certification standards, 2nd gen Nest Protect has to be replaced after 10 years, while 1st gen Nest Protect has to be replaced after 7 years.

When to replace your Nest Protect

I am aware the Nest smoke alarms have a hard expiry date (due to regulations).

What I was referring to is the app, Google Cloud ("AI") functionality, push notifications, etc.?
Will they be supported up until 2026 as well (as long as the device hard expiry is not reached earlier)?
Kind of up in the air.
