  • i actually bought this exact model on the 10/03 from Dick smith for $998, it was advertised at that price on that weeks catalogue, i also remember that officeworks were offering the model for the same price. but i think that this price is still pretty good, not sure if they are offering the free MS office suite still though.

  • If you do purchase this, take a look at the HP promotions website first, to see if they have any headphones remaining.

    • Were over 7000 when I got mine a few weeks ago

$800 for a Core i7 with Intel graphics is not a deal at all.

Besides, that's a 15.6 mainstream laptop. The deal here is an ultrabook — apples and oranges.

can you please explain the different between an ultrabook and a normal laptop, i am lost

        • ultrabook tends to run on lower voltage processor, have SSD as storage, and much much better battery life (this one have claimed 9.5 hours battery life), typically no optical (dvd) drive.
          Lighter weight too.

Normal laptop have harddrive, optical drive, heavier weight, and in the case of dv6, maybe 3.5 hours battery life (personal experience).

You're comparing an Ultrabook to a chunky DV6?!?!

    • you're not comparing the same product, one is ultrabook, one is not

    • Folio
      1.499 kg With 6-Cell Battery
      1.8cm thick

      DV6
      2.63 kg
      3.52cm thick

    • how about an Acer hummingbird with the same processor and 320GB sata for 736?

      • Acer's tend to be worse quality from what I've gathered, and that 320Gb would be a regular hard drive and not an SSD, making it far slower.

    • Er…I don't want to lug around a 15.6" laptop, thanks.

I bought one last Saturday from WOW for $719.40 (new), does not comes with Beats headphone though. When I drop in again on Sunday, last day of trading, the display unit was selling for another 25% discount or $539.55, I should have waited 1 more day to buy. So far, after 2 days, pretty happy with the buy, good when I travel overseas.

  • Not as good as the WOW deal, but it was for $850 at JB.

    • $850? Is it still on?

      • That was last week when JB had 15% off laptops.

        • should be able to bargain that

  • I bought one of the DV6's a while back and I love it speedwise, I am thinking of another more portable lappy for work, realistically how do these compare for speed? (Think normal office working use)

    • if your dv6 is last generation or before, the speed is probably going to be pretty close or even better.

  • i think their pretty good for what i do (going to uni), not too sure if the same applies for the office environment, the beats i got, i sold for $180 so was pretty happy with that.

  • sigh I wish there was a WOW store near metropolitan Melbourne!

    • There won't be any WOW stores anywhere now.
