Register for Samsung Unpacked Event by 9-Feb to Get Free Samsung Care+ Voucher for New Purchases (RRP $249) @ Samsung Online AU

2691
BONUSCARE

Samsung Australia will give vouchers for Samsung Care+ to anyone who registers for Galaxy Unpacked event by 9th Feb.

Samsung Care+ lets you swap your device up to 2 times in 2 years so is basically cover for accidents or a brand new handset after 2 years.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series mobiles and Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets are coming, so voucher may only be valid for S22 / Tab S8 pre-orders/purchases at Samsung Online until 3rd March.

EDIT: Noticed wording says "Smartphone" so this is probably valid for S22 purchases only

The Event will be live-streamed at 2am AEDT 10th Feb (AEST), with pre-orders will open from 10th Feb and 25th Feb stock availability. The vouchers will probably be emailed on the 10th Feb after the event.

Rumours are Australia will get the Exynos 2200 processor S22 versions with AMD RDNA2 GPU's. Jury is still out if that chip is any good vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. S22 Ultra is basically a new Samsung Note with square design and S-pen inbuilt.

If thinking of a new device, could be worth collecting as a possible code stack with other launch offers (assumed, not confirmed).

From Samsung website:

*Customers who register for Unpacked between 26.1.2022 and 09.02.2022 will receive a voucher for bonus Samsung Care+ (SC+). Voucher can only be redeemed when they pre-order a smartphone unveiled at the 2022 Samsung Australia Unpacked event on the Samsung online store in a single transaction between 10.02.2022 to 03.03.2022. Discount applies to one (1) x 2 year SC+ subscription, and does not apply to the swap fee. Voucher is not transferrable or redeemable for cash. Subject to stock availability (including colour variants) at time of purchase. See samsung.com/au/care-plus/terms for further details.

best is to wait 1-2 months after release, samsung destroy the value of their phones through trade-in & other deals

    • +2

That's been typically correct in past, but I'm hopeful they'll do a repeat of Flip 3 and Fold 3 where they discounted and traded at launch IIRC

    • Seems like it could be a good idea to buy it with a card with price protection, like 28 degrees, so you can get the free Care+ and claim back any price drops over the year.

      • +9

problem is 28 degrees won't protect against trade in bonuses, which is where the big discount comes from.

    • -3

Might not happen this time as according to many reports Samsung s22 ultra is a beast of devise and would not have issues selling

      • Samsung will always get discounted 6M+ after release cycle to get to their lofty sale targets ! Sales peoples lives depend on hitting those targets and not to fall behind Xiaomi !

  • +6

    2am? Sure I'll be tuning in….

    • Same. I'll just looking out for the voucher by email and reading hands-on reviews. Time to lay my Note 9 to rest

      • -7

        …NOT

        • +2

Understood your sarcasm re 2am, and agree. I never watch these promo events, but always sign up for the freebies

        • Classic Borat NOT jokes.
          Love them to death

      • +1

If they actually introduce something worthy of replacing the Note 9 (I have one too). All the new phones are either narrower or only as wide as the 9 and I want a phone which is wider: not a fan of tall, narrow phones and I don't like the idea of a visible crease down the centre of the Fold…

        • +1

          Rotate it to landscape?

        • +1

Totally agree. I know it's unpopular to say this, but I enjoyed the "big phone" surge of the early 2010s.

I have big hands. It makes sense that my phone should be bigger than somebody with smaller hands.

        • Replaced my Note 9 with Note 20 Exynos, was an effective step down, been regretting the decision for almost 2 years, looking forward to the Note 22

          • @roshee007: Really? I went from a Note 9 512gb to a Note 10 Plus 512gb and I felt that was a descent upgrade, certainly with the screen being much better (I do miss the iris scanner on the 9), yeah they say Note 10 to 20 is a small upgrade, well a Note 20 is very similiar but I usually buy year by year, at least about one year or more years back from the latest Note release (to save some big money), maybe I should skip one year (actually 2 years as Note 21 never happened) and wait till the Note 22 is a year old or so

So may I ask why don't you like your Note 20?, I guess its the Ultimate you have purchased coming from a Note 9 for the sdcard slot on the Ultimate as the Note 9 has

            • +1

@Italkdigital: The note 20 (maybe my phone is a faulty one) has major overheating, throttling and performance issues.
Never had any dramas with my note9.
I don't use sdcards as I have never needed more than 512gb (yet).
I have made peace with the fact that I bought an exynos note 20 hence its a crappy phone..
Note 9 512 in Australia was the snapdragon variant.. so was the note 10

              • @roshee007: Note 9 512 in Australia was the Exynos variant???.. so was the Note 10, well both my 512gb 9 & 10 are Exynos

but I'm gonna double check again, one moment lolz

Edit: My Note 10 is Exynos 9825
My Note 9 is Exynos 9810

Did you buy your Note 9 512gb directly from an Australian store? Are you sure it's snapdragon? I used an app called hardware info to check both mine

Have never experienced a snapdragon but I've never had any over heating issues with my Exynos variants, unless I've left them in direct sun light or I've rolled over them during sleeping while charging (unless your talking about while gaming?)

512gb space I always go over while torrent downloading, always use my phone for downloading as a lot cheaper then running my PC 24/7 why I've kept my Note 9 512gb

    • So 2am is that for Melbourne?

  • +2

Nah, the code for Care+ are pretty generic, so don't waste your time.
Code could be PlusCare or BonusCare, along those line.

    • +1

Unlikely generic. Last year's "$100 accessories" code for pre-registering at their unpacked event was all unique.

    • It only takes 10 seconds to register. I would just register in case the code is unique.

  • I have registered but never got any email confirmation. Anyone else?

    • They did say " sure to check your email, your voucher code will be sent to you before the Unpacked Event." so I'd say you'll get it later… and yeah, I didn't get an email and went back to check too.

  • +4

Rumours are Australia will get the Exynos 2200 processor S22 versions with AMD RDNA2 GPU's.

Just FYI the latest leak from 20th of January seems to indicate that Australia and South-East Asia will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 exclusively. Some regions have both, Europe has Exynos only.

    https://twitter.com/dohyun854/status/1484151835468259335

    • +2

Looks like the sd 8 gen 1 is still beating the exynos 2200 in practically everything though the exynos does look like its closing the gap.

      https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/samsung-exynos-2200-vs…

As for aus getting sd variant instead of the exynos. I say good.

      • how does it compare with the amd gpu though?

        • According to reviewer from phone arena the exynos cpu still has a ways to to prove it is indeed better than the snapdragon offering.

          https://www.phonearena.com/news/samsung-exynos-2200-vs-snapd…

          • @xoom: For most regular users, they wont even notice a difference.

Its like taste testing, on paper and in lab tests are they beat each other, but if you blind test them with day to day tasks, you'd find that most people wouldn't find any difference.

            • @lplau: I get that for the common folk the difference is not noticeable. However if i am paying top dollar for gadgets like mobile phones. I want the fastest performing.

              • @xoom: For me, I'd gladly trade some performance (if still snappy) I probably won't notice for longer battery life I'll definitely notice.

Past Exynos handsets reviewed as having worse battery life than their Snapdragon counterparts. At these Exynos 2200 clock speeds and thermals I fear S22 hands on reviews may prove battery life takes a hit, even with 5000mah

                • @TheLurker: That too. Lets say performance was on par with either but one has worst battery life. Its a no brainer which one you would pick.

    • Very weird though.
I'm guessing supply chain issues or manufacturing issues from Samsung for Exynos.

As Exynos actually costs them less to manufacture than to utilise Snapdragon which is owned by Qualcomm.
In the past only US got Snapdragon and "most" of the world got Exynos. The reason US got Snapdragon is due to Patents, which actually violates Anti Trust and the South Korean authorities have tried to overturn it a few times.

Qualcomm holds all of the CDMA patents in US, therefore Samsung cant just put a CDMA modem in their phone without paying Qualcomm royalties.

Instead they came to an agreement where Samsung paid >$1bil to Qualcomm with the conditions that they (samsung) can manufacture their (qualcomm) chip and must be used in the US, and they cannot sell Exynos to any other phone manufacturer. This allows Samsung to pay the least royalties for utilizing Qualcomm's CDMA patents.

    • I've been tracking the rumormill too, and about the same time as that leak there were others contradicting it. A week earlier leakers said Exynos wasn't coming to S22 at all. I'll wait for the announcements for specs, and hands on reviews incl battery tests before I cough up that much cash.

    • This is weird. I thought we're going to get Exynos as always…

      • Agree this is weird. 3 weeks from stock availability, still no official clarification about Australia chips specifically (other counties are named), and no detailed performance info available officially.

Using Qualcomm in South Korea home ground says a lot. Tips warn of very low units of Ultra for first months so I'm wondering if their foundry has bad yields at 4nm and they don't want to undersupply SK. I'm giving up for a week until official word comes

  • +1

So you can wait 700 odd days, pay $149 swap fee, and get a new model? Or the oldest model they still sell assuming they won't sell s22's in 2024.

    • -1

You get the same model back.

  • +1

Anyone know if you can couple this with an EPP purchase?

    • +1

You can.. I have access to EPP program and got email for registration to attend the event.

      • Would I have to use the same email I access the EPP with to get the Samsung Care?

        • -1

Yeah.. I think so… You'll probably get 50% off on S22 products (if Samsung follows historical EPP offer), so during your purchase, add Samsung Care+ as well

          • @open4highway: Doubt it.. it’ll be 30-35% I think

            • @87percent: 50% off RRP is for retailer staff portals (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, JB, etc staff and you have to do a training course)
People just resell the codes like always

              • @regenade: The codes cannot be resold. I used to have access to multiple portals including a retailer portal (telstra).
You cant use the codes in different portals as they are linked to specific EPP portals (e.g. Telstra training codes only work in Telstra EPP portal).

Also not all retailer staff portals have the 50% off, usually it is only Telco retailers.

        • +5

I have EPP and some promo codes sent to the same email address from standard web store are often not valid in EPP cart. I hope code works in EPP but wouldn't count on it

          • @TheLurker: Random question, but ive been looking for an answer, do CDS/EDS and the newsletter code etc stack with EPP codes? I would try myself but its my sisters acc and only would ask her if I was 100% going to buy something, Cheers in advance!

            • +1

@nft-yes: Can't confirm sorry as I've only got EPP.

In my past experience public campaign codes like this one wouldn't work in EPP, but loyalty and newsletter codes would.

It seems like they run a sophisticated system to target certain stores, user profiles, and product lines. I've also had codes alter what it was applicable to after they've been issued.

I've seen public site deals with trade up promos beat the best EPP deals, but the best is usually the codes phone store employees can access at launch.

I trust that if anyone works out good stack hacks they'll share it here. Once they do, it won't be around for long

              • @TheLurker: Thanks for the reply! also do you know if you can purchase multiple phones in one order with EPP codes/use them again to purchase a second?

                • @nft-yes: Not sure if correct but I recall a cap at 2 devices of same type per year. Haven't checked for a while. Codes are usually only good for one transaction, and I assume only unit. If it's a need, just sign up with multiple emails for codes, swap/buy on forums, usual tricks.

It you need a deal, chat and phone teams are usually poor / by-the-book but eventually you might find a good contact who is wiling to help out. I've had success with persistence there

    • Not always valid in edu store. If it can work it would be great but wouldn`t surprise me if the code excludes edu store.

  • +1

"Samsung Care+(samsung.com) lets you swap your device up to 2 times in 2 years so is basically cover for accidents or a brand new handset after 2 years"
Just remember there is still a fee for swapping. Its not a free swap for accidental damage. The difference is you don't have to fork out the full amount.
    Eg Z Fold 3 is $299

    • Just noticed that. "Terms say Swap Fee for all eligible devices is $149 or $299." I'm guessing S22 might be $149 and S22 Ultra $299 but perhaps others who've claimed Care+ with S21 might confirm and we could assume the same?

A bit steep if I'd already paid $249, but maybe viable if Care+ is free.

    • you might be able to sell it as brand new instead of used which would give it more value.

  • +1

It says in the T and C's "Voucher can only be redeemed when they pre-order a smartphone" so do you have to pre-order a phone to take advantage of this offer? Seems like there'd be no way to capitalise on trade-in offers etc.

  • +1

Watching this closely. I am tossing between Note 20 and this (The "Note" successor that is).

    I have Note 10+ and it's fantastic.

    • Was going to get whichever note was going to be released but it looks like they combined it with the S line. So one of those with the S pen it is for me.

      • That's what I am thinking too.

But…. if I am not mistaken, it still comes with Charger (not Ultra Fast Charging) and given it's an older phone, might be had tad cheaper vs this. Camera slight better in Note 20 Ultra 5G (5x Optical at 2.2f vs 3x Optical at 2.4f for S22 Ultra)

On the other hand, this one will support Ultra Fast Charging (45w), 500mAh more battery, and Snapdragon by the look of it.

        • Wether it comes with a fast charger or not won't matter to me as i have 2 pd powerbanks that can do fast charging.

    • +1

Me too Note 10 Plus here 512gb varient, I would upgrade to the S22 Note 512gb varient what ever its called but it

      MUST HAVE A SDCARD SLOT

like the Note20 Ultra (I think) or was it the Note 10 Plus last that had sdcard slot on their high end phones?

      • +1

Note10 plus does have sdcard slot. I think Note 20 ultra also has it but if you do use it for that then you cannot enjoy dual sim. Esim for Note 20

        • My Australian Note 9 has dual sim bought directly from Samsung (had free screen care and I actually used it for ghosting) my Note 10 is single sim, it is handy having dual sim but I got so many phones it's not that important

Now doesn't the Note 20 have e-sim and physical sim then one can fit the sdcard with the physical sim, I'm not sure I've never owned one as yet (missed buying a 512gb varient under $1000 on eBay) but most likely that will be my next phone unless there are super deals for release of the Note 22 and needs to be minimum 512gb storage or more

There is also a trick to fit the simcard and memory card (sandwiched together) in the memory section of a physical dual simcard phone, like the Note 9

    • Do not go the Note 20. I had a Note 20 Ultra with the Exynos 990 chip, same as the S20 lineup had, and the battery life is garbage. Would be charging it throughout the day.

I swapped to the S21 Ultra and battery life is night and day to the Note/S 20. One of the other guys is also getting rid of his S20 Ultra for the same reason. I convinced him to wait for this launch.

  • +4

I fear what these are going to cost.

    • +3

Not quite your firstborn but getting close it.

    • Should be heavy discounts and offers on release as past releases or Samsung decides to end that also, see if sdcard slots will be ended completely on all there highend range mobiles

      • It looks like Australian price for the S22 Ultra (ie Note) is going to be starting at $2,000 RRP for the low memory version.

I remember when the original Note 1-to-Note 4 didn't have gimped models, were more competitive than today's Samsung options, and it only set you back $600-$900.

        • +3

Sadly same for all large tier 1 phone manufacturers.
I remember iPhones being $900 for their flagship highest model, now its well into the $2000's.
The cost of producing them would be about the same too….. just phone companies being more greedy overtime.

        • Can't compare a Note 4 say to a Note 10 Plus,. I still have both and the UI on the Note 4 was terrible which put a lot of people off but do agree latest prices are ridiculous, if the standard Note 22 is gonna be over $2000 I'll just wait a year till prices drop dramatically anyway I love lots of storage so far been sticking with 512gb, if they remove the sdcard slot on the ultras I'll think twice about buying one

          • +1

            @Italkdigital: .
I think Samsung are removing the microSD slot from all Galaxy-S variants.
            …it's devolving into Apple's practices
If you want more storage - pay more money upfront, or buy cloud storage.
If you want your music - pay more money and buy Official Headphones.
If you want fast charging - pay more money and buy Official Charger.

And if you wait a year, you've kinda failed, since the phone would be "obsolete" by Samsung's own standards as they recommend you buy the new variant. Not that I'm telling you it's a bad idea. On the contrary, I've been advocating for people to buy ex-flagships for years.

It's a better idea to instead recommend another OEM. One that offers the things you want. Vote with your wallet. And if enough people do that, then it will force the OEMs to change their practices. The alternative being, you change nothing, and blindly follow the big and shiny marketing.

And another thing, the Samsung Note 4 (Exynos) was the best phone of 2014. Or at least the best Android variant. It arguably had the best camera, battery life, performance, display, at least when compared to its competitors. So yeah, the UI quiet sucked, but so did most phones of the era, and Samsung at least made up for it by giving you software enhancements for the S Pen, Split screen Apps, and not to mention they had a very crude video-out/PC Mode way before DeX. The Samsung Note 9 (Snapdragon) was a decent package, especially for Fortnite players. The Samsung Note 10 wasn't. It was out-shined by it's peers, such as the: Samsung S10+, LG V50, OnePlus 7t, ASUS RoG 2, Sony 1 mk 2.
….So you are right in saying you shouldn't compare the two, but not in the way you thought. Since one was the no-compromise device of its era, and the other wasn't that competitive.

            • +1

@Kangal: I'm not sure about the Note 10 but I felt the Note 10 plus was an upgrade to my Note 9 mainly the display quality, touch faster and I think Note 10 came out with wireless Dex which the Note 9 hasn't got (not that I use dex often), Not saying the Note 9 isn't a capable mobile but Samsung stretched out the security and OS updates on the Note 10 (plus) were 9s missed out, so it's a phone one can keep till 2023 and have Android up dates to Android 14, the new UI from Note 8 up I feel makes the Notes more capable were one doesn't need to use a PC much my case nearly never, especially the s-pen were one can copy and paste were non Notes can't like extracting text from pictures or not possible text in websites, honestly rarely use my PC cause of the Samsung UI, certainly gives lots of options to play with with using Samsungs Good Lock app (so one change anything to standard Android), though seems like most people prefer clean Android I'm the opposite wanting as much features/options within the OS as possible (some people classify this as bloatware when ots not as there add-ons), I think my next phone will be a second hand Note 20 Ultra as no way I'll be paying the high prices on a Note 22 unless they have super deals on release

Interesting video about all the Notes from N1
              https://youtu.be/EL-UCUAt8DQ

Edit: shame if Samsung removes the sdcard slot I doubt I'd buy a phone without one, I think removing the slot is to do with the association with Microsoft were MS onedrive cloud service is the default cloud service for Samsung mobiles, well Microsoft needs to make there money somehow if by chance Samsung is not contributing anything

              My 2 cents lolz

              • @Italkdigital: I think a leaner, cleaner, and more efficient OS is better overall. The only exception to that, I believe, is the Note-series which has a built-in Silo for the Active Digitiser.

Btw, there's no Note 21 and no Note 22.
It's now the "Galaxy S Ultra" moniker instead, or skip back to the Note 20.

After owning several series of Samsung Note devices, I find myself not needing the S Pen anymore. So for me, personally, I'm better served with a large phone that's cleaner. As for DeX, I like it, but most people don't care about it. However, for those that do use it, they say the Wireless feature is hit/miss and cables are recommended. Still think the Razer Phone 2, and the Razer Linda, together were the best concept for a DeX-like use case.

Since I don't need the S Pen and the features it comes with, naturally I'd be better served with the Sony Xperia 1 mk 3. Normally, but its way out of my budget, and if I did have the coin I wouldn't spend more than $600 for something without warranty. I also think Apple Ecosystem has matured to the point where I could jump to it, but again, it's priced out of reach for me.

Stay away from Samsung, my last trade-in and exchange experience was terrible. Their customer service team are just idiots; would never buy anything from Korean guys.

    • +1

Some apple fans used to line up to buy the products on the release dates, that was understandable, in a sense. However, some of their behaviours, such as undermining other brands, are never understandable, at all.

    • It's getting harder to find any company with a good customer service,. My moto is "prepare one self when dealing with idiots"

    • +1

      What’s wrong with Korean guys?

      • +6

Easy pal, my wife, is a Korean guy!

        • -1

I suppose your wife speaks understandable English while the Samsung rep couldn't.

  • Hope it has dual sim.

    • Likely has dual sim for all versions, Even most versions of S21 had dual sim (1 e-sim + 1 physical sim).

      • Though do they work at the same I mean your on call with one and still receive calls (pop up) on the other sim during a call and vise versa?

  • +1

Hardware is always so compelling with Samsung but can't bring myself to leave stock android and go back to Samsung OS!

Nice deal, S22 ultra will be huge

Voucher can only be redeemed when they pre-order a smartphone unveiled at the 2022 Samsung Australia Unpacked event on the Samsung online store in a single transaction between 10.02.2022 to 03.03.2022. Discount applies to one (1) x 2 year SC+ subscription, and does not apply to the swap fee. Voucher is not transferrable or redeemable for cash.

  • +5

I didn't think there was anything worse than Telstra's customer service till I ordered from Samsung online.

    • -1

Nothing against Samsung products - just Avoid buying from Samsung Online
You likely won't receive it & you'll have a hard time chasing it down.
The online store has slowly been getting roasted on PR & FB comments for non delivery of products.
They've also stopped responding to their 1300#

I've never had any issues with ordering from Samsung EPP.

I wonder if any of the shipping complaints have to even do with them.

Lately Aussie Post and Startrack has been horrible and illogical. Ive got Parcel Post packages delivered from perth to melbourne which was sent after my express post parcel from dandenong melbourne to another address in melbourne.

The melbourne to melbourne express post one too 3.5weeks vs the parcel post perth to melb too 4 days.

Haha im suprised you mentioned lining of Gerry's pocket after he was one of the primary reasons why all online orders from overseas is now GST taxed.

I'm sure they we're ok once. But not providing consignment notes / not responding to emails or answering the phone has a lot to do with 'shipping' - that's really all they have to do & none of its happening. So by all means order away & join the end of the complaints queue.

Amazon have also done just fine with their shipping.

Yeah that HN link is not gonna get a lot of love… but maybe give it a click & see where it takes you ;) screw gerry

@mlakmlak: Recently the same when I ordered something. It never showed up and I kept hounding them as they didn't seem to want to reply. They ended up refunding me a month later and didn't really give any good reason for the delays except their system seemed to be having issues making the order send(?)
Long story short, I'd order again but only if the sale price was good enough to warrant the possible mess around from them. (on a side note, had issues in the past with them and their call centre help line was really bad and not helpful.. No one called back etc and in the end they swapped my faulty brand new phone for a second hand refurbished one. Really poor. Alas, I still prefer Samsung phones to other options and just wished they fixed themselves up. (oh, and buy somewhere who will look after you etc as Samsung didn't really so would rely on the retailer)

  • Well done YouTube video comparing all the Note series from Note 1 to the Note 20/Ultra, few mentions of the S series during the years compared to the Notes, mentions the Notes that started having bloatware, big price jumps, ones with removable batteries, comparisons of s-pens, when the new UI took over the older touchwiz UI and more and I agree in the video that the Note 10 Plus was a big jump in quality over the Note 9 though a lot of people still prefer the Note 9, why? well I own both and certainly think it's a greater quality mobile, going by this video close quality to the Note 20 Ultra, enjoy the video anyway👍😁

    • Im still using a dual sim SD note 9.
It was some good tech especially the retina scanner

      • Agree I miss that as not on my Note 10 Plus, hate it when they remove features that were useful, remember my Note 8 had a feature were the background could be set as 3D effect, the background moved as you moved the phone and gave a 3D effect and it worked perfectly gave the background depth, of course the headphone jack was removed Note 10 and above OK I could live with that as I use Bluetooth buds, umm what else lol, one noticeable difference I've noticed between both phones is a big jump in quality with the screens, speed hard to tell between the both, I think Note 10 started with 5G, anyway depends what your after and how much your willing to pay I guess, my rant lolz

Edit: yupz Note 9 still good tech, kept mine for torrent downloading, it's the 512gb varient as saves me wasting money on electricity costs keeping my PC on 24/7, slight cracked screen top right hand corner not worth selling👍😁
