So its just an impaired 4k TV?

    HDMI 2.1? Lol :(

    • +6

Is enough to run 4k at 60hz comfortably.

Dunno that there's many $250 32" 4k screens with better connectivity than that. If there are, let me know.

Lol I just read freesync and missed the fact that it's only 60hz. What's the point of freesync @ such a low refresh rate?

        • Unless you can explain why cutting off half of 1/60th of a second of lag is a bad thing (average impact of misalignment of frame being ready and screen refreshing at 60hz), I'm going to go right ahead and assume you have no idea what you're talking about, just like all the other spec sheet warriors out there.

Why are people so emphatic about things they know nothing about?

          • -1

@Joker042: Why answer in such a condescending way mate? Genuine question why freesync/vrr will matter so much when it's a standard refresh rate of 60hz. But I guess maintaining 4k @ 60fps in a game is not too easy even with modern day GPUs. So you will get the drops and hence vrr will be beneficial.

I'm not into 4k gaming but what I do want is QHD @ high refresh rates. And I need it through HDMI 2.1 as my laptop has the GPU only connected to its HDMI 2.1 port and g-sync works via HDMI 2.1. So far the only HDMI 2.1 monitor I've seen that's QHD with a high refresh rate and supporting g-sync is the Eve Spectrum 02. So yeah, I need a monitor that's quite specific.

            • +1

@CVonC: HDMI 2.1 can handle 4k at 120hz, so at QHD I don't think you need HDMI 2.1 specifically, HDMI 2.0 can do 144hz at 1440p. Heck, HDMI 1.3 can do 100hz at 1440. Pay less attention to the stuff that doesn't matter. As long as the link can carry what the screen is capable of, you're fine. As a general rule, if a screen only has one connection type (in this case HDMI), it'll usually be able to carry the native res at the max refresh rate - a quick google can confirm that. (I just googled "HDMI 2.1 4k max refresh rate" to check that it could handle 120hz)

VRR is just as important at lower refresh rates as higher. Separate to your point about 4k being a lot of pixels to drive, if your GPU can render 120 frames per second in some scene of some game, then at a 60hz refresh rate then the frame that gets drawn to the screen will usually be a quarter of a frame old by the time the screen refreshes (the GPU renders two frames for every refresh, if they're randomly spaced in the refresh cycle you'll usually be a quarter of a frame out of sync). At 120hz, it'll usually be half a frame old. So, the benefit is pretty much the same in both cases (1/4 of 1/60th of a second is equal to 1/2 of 1/120th of a second). It may only be a 2ms reduction in lag, but when you're running at 120hz your frame time is about 8ms, so it's not peanuts.

And that's all assuming the frame rate is pretty constant, when it's up and down, VRR can help reduce the feeling of stutteriness.

If you'd asked instead of laughing in the first place, people would have been happy to explain stuff. Negative comments about spec sheet stats that don't matter aren't just noise in the comments section, they convince other people who don't know any better than stuff like "HDMI 2.1 lol" actually matters, when in this case it's not an issue.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be surprised at ALL if the screen was a cheap piece of junk, but that's a whole other conversation!

              • @Joker042: I know about the limits of each version. The point is, in order for me to be able to use g-sync with my laptop's 3060, I can only use the HDMI 2.1 port because that's what the 3060 is connected to and the laptop doesn't have a mux switch to redirect the 3060 via DP over USB-C. G-Sync works over HDMI 2.1 only (if using HDMI) and not HDMI 2.0 (even if a HDMI 2.0 monitor supports g-sync it does not work, I have tested this).

The lol part was directed at my own quite specific situation that needs a 2.1 monitor and hence the sadface too. It wasn't a "lol this is only HDMI 2.0 whatta pos". But I can see how it can be interpreted that way.

Good Christ….figures the USA & Bezos loves them some Dahua.

"Facial recognition software developed by China-based Dahua…purports to detect the race of individuals caught on camera and offers to alert police clients when it identifies members of the Turkic ethnic group Uighurs.

Dahua, though among Chinese companies sanctioned by the U.S. government, has a growing presence in the country with sales and support offices in Irvine and Houston. Despite restrictions on its business within the country, the company struck a deal, reportedly valued at $10 million, with Amazon for 1,500 thermal cameras and there are 80 public contracts to purchase the company’s equipment in California alone."

    Yuck.

İf only people cared enough to not support such a business. But even then it probably wouldn't make a dent.

Is there a good tech company?

        Facebook and Google spying.

Apple runs assembly plants that are barely better than slavery. Outsourcing this doesn't get them off the hook.

    I have this monitor.

It’s chunky and isn’t very sleek but is cheap and gets the job done.

Viewing angles aren’t horrible for most situations, however the edges of the screen can become difficult to see because there is a gap between the backlight and LCD panel. So when looking at an angle the edge (like ~0.5 cm) will be too dark to see.

It’s a cheap 4K monitor and decent size. I’d say go for it if you want a cheap monitor for WFH setup.

  • Not very bright panel..

  • damn missed the deal.
