Microsoft store has the Graphite colour tablet for $1888. Platinum is normal price at $2399. Keyboard with the pen is $429.95, no discount that I can see.

I ordered this a couple of days ago and it came today. I am genuinely impressed, I needed a portable laptop with stylus and the original Surface Go wasn't cutting it anymore.

A few of my favourite things:

  • 891g for the screen section + the screen itself looks great
  • appealing Graphite colour
  • feels snappy, handles all my work software
  • replaceable SSD if I want to upgrade it myself down the track
  • nice compact power brick with a USB port for convenience
  • quality keyboard
  • it's not a Surface Go

Complaints - keyboard is expensive through Microsoft, plus the tablet gets a bit warm when running more resource-heavy applications.

Overall I'm a happy camper, thought I'd share.

    it's not a Surface Go

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

    • Yes

    • Good.

Surface Go only brought sadness whereas Surface Pro brings great joy and wonderment

  • How’s the fan noise?

    • I tried playing a few games and the fan noise was noticeable enough to get annoying, I assume that's a non-issue if you're wearing headphones etc. It isn't really noticeable with word processing / web browsing.

    • +2

More of a golf clap than a loud cheer.

  • I've had my Surface Pro 4 for 5 and a half years. Just last week, I noticed the battery had swollen and didn't feel comfortable ordering a replacement and fitting it myself (videos from experienced repairers show at least a 3 hour repair job)

I ordered the i5 version and it's awesome. I hope I can get another 5+ years out of this version. The old one was still perfectly fine for all of my business use, but the new one has much nicer speakers.

I home you took up the trade-in offer.

      I got $400 trade-in for my Surface Pro 3 last year…

My experience, yes the first 2 weeks was happy with surface.. looks gorgeous etc etc..
After month, hated it.. OP please give review again in 2 months.

    • +2

What turned your opinion on it around in those last two weeks?

    • +1

      Pro or surface laptop?
I went iPad Pro as a daily driver over surface pro 3 and I kinda regret it sometimes.

    • +1

Wow now this is all I can think about

I've had mine almost 5 years and love it. Would buy another in a heartbeat if my current one died. I will keep using until next gen if I can.

  • Cann't find the option for extended warranty, you really need that because in the past MS surface pro/book has quite a lots quality problem, and it's equally nothing repairable.

    • I had an amazing experience with Microsoft outside of warranty…
Had an OG Surface Pro, screen developed a yellow bar along the top after 18 months, courier came and collected it and a replacement (probably refurbished) was delivered 2 days later. Soon after recieving it I accidentally dropped a pen (Rotring 600 lol) onto the corner and managed to crack the screen. Anyway, 6 months later and the screen on the new SP developed an annoying flicker that would happen every few minutes. I jumped onto online chat with Microsoft, explained the screen flicker and was totally upfront about the crack in the screen. Fully expecting to at least have to pay for the return postage after they decide it's my fault and send it back to me, they arranged a courier to collect the device. A week or so later they deliver a new Surface Pro 3 with a keyboard and pen! After 4 hard years plugged in 24/7 in my office driving a 32in 4k screen it was retired in April 2020 and has been performing faultlessly as a portable NES/SNES/Megadrive emulation machine. Aside from the fan running almost non-stop, the battery still lasts 1.5 hours

    Out if stock

      Definitely still stock

  • This one or macbook pro?

  • +1

Battery life is the main problem with Surface Pro.

Had the Surface Pro 4 and now the surface pro 7.
The 4 had four hours of battery and the 7 gets about five hours.

It’s great for portability and you can make it a tablet for the plane. But the battery just doesn’t do what it advertised.

Next time I will be going for a M1 MacBook.

    • -4

Yeah unless you're NEED a touch screen the M1 MacBook Air is a much better laptop that's cheaper and better in just about every way.

      More powerful
      Better battery life
      Better build
      Better touch pad
      No fan noise

I never thought I'd get an Apple laptop and after 15 months with my M1 Air it still blows my mind how good it is.
Of note… The Air is heavier though…

be careful what you wish for…you forgot you have to deal with macOS..
once I came back to windows I swore never again will I leave.

      • Is it really that bad? When did you male the change? If it's recently I'd be interested to know why it's so bad as I was considering going the other way but have never used Apple products before.

        • +1

macos has some great innovations, some of the user input ideas are great and has been copied over to windows now.
Its more about compatibility. ie the solar power inverter monitoring software only came in windows.
or playing the games i want etc…it kinda sucked on the macos

If you're getting this to replace an older device, Microsoft has their semi-regular trade-in promo for a new Microsoft Surface device purchase at the moment.

Used it to get a surprisingly decent trade-in value for the original Surface Go on the purchase of a new Surface Go 2 for a family member mid last year.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/store/b/microsoft-trade-in?O…

    • ooh can you give an estimate on the difference? This might be a good home for my awful Surface Go

    • +2

you can use the link to see what the quote for your trade-in is. I'm not sure if it's the same this time, but last time, a trade-in for an old MacBook Air was almost double what it was worth on the second hand market.

    • +1

wow thanks for this. My 7 year old surface book 1 is worth $485.00

    • Thanks for the link but bahahahahahaha that was a good laugh when it tells me my still fully functional SP4 with a corner cracked screen is worth <$20. (While one without its screen cracked worths ~$428)

  • Anyone got Chinese with their Surface Pro 8? I tried changing the language setting and removed Chinese keyboard but still got some Chinese in the sound setting.

  • +4

deal is over…price changed at midnight, just after I finished watching reviews and decided to buy :(
oh well, saved $2K I didnt need to spend lol
