Not a bad deal at all, wished it had calls included.

    • +4

dont need it, lol. just use whats app or FaceTime calls.

      • Haha, or you can do wi-fi calling.

    • +1

Yeah I’m after a cheap plan to run my Apple Watch on along with my phone, I’ll just go tethered until something pops up.

      • +1

If you only want it for an Apple Watch, only $2.50/mo more you get unlimited calls and data with Truphone for $9.99/mo (no contract).

        • Yeah but that’s only for family mode, it doesn’t suit me either. I want to be able to take calls from my watch or earphones when I’m not with my phone.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah fair, I only ever used it for my kids. Doing it this way meant they could take calls from their watch without a phone - but it gave them a seperate phone number.

Could you set it up for yourself in 'Family Mode'? I set it up with my child's Apple ID, no reason I couldn't pick a different one? Again, you'll have a new, seperate number though which is kind of annoying.

        • interesting, if only apple watch has tethering

        • Truphone nice price on Appple watch plan, shame they do not cater for Samsung galaxy watches

  • +5

Also free Optus sport, good bargain.
If you have a dual sim phone combine with amaysim calls and text at $60 for the year. You’ll spend $150 in total for all unlimited (5gb top speed and the rest capped but still very usable)

    • +1

$7.50 a month for optus sport with a bonus 5gb data sim, not bad at all if anyones after optus sport

    • Would rather just get a kogan 365 day plan like $120 for 130gb

      • +1

If you don’t need endless data sure. But if you do it’s a super bargain! You also get 6 months free Amazon prime worth $30 and Optus sport. If you don’t need either then fair enough look somewhere else. If you deduct $30 for the free Amazon for 6 months you are paying $15 for 6 months of endless data and free Optus sport

  • +1

Hmm, would there be any use in putting this in a watch if I don't have an Optus phone plan?

    • +1

Yeah I'd also like to know if I can use a watch and plan independent from my phone plan. Currently with telstra on one of those JB Hifi gift card deals with a month until I can cancel.

      • +1

Pretty sure you need to have Optus Phone plan to use watch as cellular (through e-sim).

        • +1

This. Really hope the telcos can release plan to allow the use of mobile services without a phone plan with them….

  • Cheers op, thought slow but unlimited data was cheap at twice the price.
Just swapped my $15 for $7.50.

Update: had to choose a different plan, so $12.50 for 30gb.
Once it's approved I'll change it to the $7.50 plan.
So much effort just so I can do less…

  • +6

I think you can get 6 months Free of Amazon Prime through Optus Sub hub

    • +1

      Yes you can.

  • They followed what Telstra doing, they removed 5G access on the small and medium plans, used to have 5G on all plans.

  • Not as good as the 25gb/Mo for $7.5 + 12 months of prime.

    • Who's that with?

      • +3

        This
        $7.5/Mo + bonus 20gb/Mo with optus
Can't believe it was already 4ish months ago

    • Damn, cant believe I missed that promo bugger :(
      That would have been perfect.

      • Can't apply it afterwards?

  • Just checked on the Apple Watch deal from Optus. Not really worth it imo. $753.80 for the device repayment ($62.40 for the watch x 12 months = $753.80). Watch itself only costs $599 from Apple itself.

    • +1

The Optus watch is the GPS+cellular version though which retails at $749 so Optus is only $4 more. The $599 at apple is the GPS only version. (This is for the 41mm version though)

      • Oh mb mb, thought it was the gps version only

  • Can't you use hotspot from your mobile to tablet?

    • Yes you can

  • Can I move the sim into a 4G router and use it?
Does the data need to used only with the iPad?
I Will confirm with optus when I go to their store tomorrow, but any suggestion will be appreciated.

    • Not a pro but I reckon it depends on your router, not the sim.

      • Well I have an optus router and have been using a optus data plan sim in it.
If I move to this plan with a new sim, will optus restrict the sim to work only with tablets and phones with imei, and not work with a router. I should have been more clear with my query.

    • +2

They sell these plans with modems included so fair bet there're no restrictions on use in a router.

      • +1

Hope it is the case. Thanks for your response. Will see the optus store later in evening and confirm anyway.

  • Anyone know when this expires or/and when the cutoff for activation might be?

    • Says "Available until withdrawn" in T&Cs

Optus support unable to say when offer expires.

    • Optus says SIM can be activated up to 15 days following receipt of order but no later.

      • Mine was automatically activated without my consent.

        • Activated on delivery? Did you specify a date for activation?

  • I have a Galaxy Watch series 1 and would like to use it as a standalone phone via Esim. Can anybody recommend an Esim deal for this?

    • Somewhere here on Ozbargain a post mentions now one can get an e-sim other then the big 3 telco providers and prepaid (can't remember the company's) but you have the option with the big 3x telcos to use share number feature (whatever it's called lol) with your current plan if your with the 3x big telcos cost only $5 per month, basically if you receive a call both your mobile and phone will ring of course e-sim so your watch can be out of bluetoith, say in another state

  • +5

It might be a good idea to mention these plans have endless data =

Once you reach your shared data allowance, all services on your account that data share will continue to use data at speeds of up to 1.5Mbps.

  • Thanks Op bought the $7.50 plan to try out 1.5Mbps unlimited data.

Worth a shot seeing it's month to month. Can always cancel after the 1st month if it's too slow.

    • +2

Let me know how it goes. While capped mine sat around 0.9-1.1 Mbps, and for some reason netflix wouldn't go above 0.8Mbps (bitrate 103, 432p).

  • Can you put it in a phone and hot spot?

    • They’re data plans, no calls or SMS

  • Wish there was a 200GB plan! Thats all I need.
