Imagine if this arrived with a broken SATA connector. And Newegg denies the RMA warranty because "we found you broke the SATA connector, RMA denied". You would be spewing.

        • +1

Yeah, you'd have to get into the habit of videoing every unboxing and hope that that's enough evidence to support your claim.

          • @Revrnd: It doesn't matter how it is sent by you but how it is received by them.

if it is damaged in transit that's not their problem that's your problem as the sender.

So taking a video is irrelevant.

            • @garetz: It is about proving what you recieved was broken

              • @yfxsmike: they are not responsible for damage in transit, you are, so if you do not take insurance, then you have no recourse.

Read the terms and conditions for warranty returns. They never take responsibility.

                • @garetz: Pretty sure you are protected with ACCC if you received faulty item. Their term and condition doesn't matter if it is against the law.

                  • @yfxsmike: Newegg is not under the jurisdiction of the accc, its irrelevant what australian laws are to an american company.

                    • @garetz: Call your bank and get a charge back after you gather your evidence

Thank you for Sharing. Definitely will not be ordering from them again!

This. I literally was about to buy from them before but whilst I think GamersNexus probably seems to be disproportionately lucky and doesn't feel as 'authentic' as it used to, there's enough in that video to scare me away from tempting fate. At least Amazon (and Amazon US/UK via AU) are a proven quantity in terms of fixing up their mistakes - may take a bit of time, but ultimately you won't be worse off.

  • Bought one a few months ago at around the same price. Great drive.

Factor in to the cheap price that you wont get a dollar back on warranty through newegg

  • Oh man. I've just purchased a NAS and was so excited to see this deal.
But (profanity) Newegg. Guess ill wait.

If you want the most reliable hdd, go HGST if you can still get them or even Ultrastar which they're now rebranded as.
Time and time again shown to be in the least number of faults groups on backblaze's quarterly drive reports.
    https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-drive-stats-for-202…
The drive in this deal has an annualized failure rate of 1.11% on backblaze. Not awesome but not awful.
That said the 14TB Seagate drive ST14000NM0138 had a failure rate of 6.5-ish percent sometime last year.
    So be careful.
    And avoid newegg.

WD are nice drives. I'm pretty happy with the 3* WD HC550 16TB drives I picked up for $296USD around $420 AUD each recently shipped via Fedex from Hong Kong with 3 year warranty back to them. 0 Hours on the drives and no SMART issues in my DS920+, been running them for a week.

      • could you share the ebay seller.

        • +1

PM incoming as it is outside of their eBay store and I made a typo. They were $286USD each shipped or around $404 Aussie each.

        • @Spizz Could I please have the link please :)

      • @spizz pm for me too pls!

      • Could you PM me the seller details, Thanks

      • Could you please PM as well? Thank you.

        • Sending PMs to all above.

      • Could you PM me the seller details, I can't find your previous pm if you sent me one.

        Thanks

      • Hi Mate, will appreciate if you share the details with me as well. Thx.

      • Any chance you can PM me that link to thanks!

      • please send link ;)

These reports are pointless for people who buy low numbers of drives because all hard drives fail. There is no hard drive that is reliable. You're playing with a 1 in a 100 chance vs a 1 in 20 apparently.

They are useful if you are an enterprise dealing in thousands of devices paying people to swap them in and out.

Also the reports are infamous for people drawing incorrect conclusions off them because of low sample sizes and such.

      • Um what? Statistics don't apply to you because if low numbers? There's only one of me, does that mean I'm not gonna die?

  • Newegg…. never again. Beyond bad support.
