Leatherman Squirt PS4 Multi-Tool (Red and Black) $55.99 + Delivery (Free with Onepass) @ Catch

460

Lost my Squirt of many years to airline security and never replaced (actually I think I lost a Micra and a Wave to them as well :( )

To me this is more useful than the Micra (mainly because of the pliers versus the scissors) and because of it's size much handier and "portable" than the bigger Leathermen for the sort of stuff I use it for.

Looks like this is about the lowest price it's been even compared to Amazon.

its also handier IMHO in that you can take out the tools without having to open everything up like the micra. the advantage of the micro is that you can half open it and use the rest of the tool as a handle which can help also

    • +2

Ahh forgot about that advantage. Been a while since someone at Melbourne Airport benefited from a Squirt from my stupidity :)

  • I feel like this might be useful to get but I can't think at the moment what I would use it for haha

When have you guys used this product around?

    • +6

You'll be surprised just how often you use the pliers. I reckon they're the most useful part of a mini multi-tool.

      • yeah anytime you have something annoying that you can't unscrew, PLIERS!!!!

or whoops i bent something….. PLIERS!!!

        • +11

          Your kid has a toothache……..

      • Ditto most commonly used features were bottle opened and pliers, don’t underestimate the value of having the latter

      • I actually use the screwdriver more than the pliers, but I'm forever fixing things around my house (young kids). Even still, I need pliers, I have a good gerber knife with a bit screwdriver, but I had to get a skeletool because I missed the pliers too much.

    • I have a wave that I use 4 or 5 times a week. The smaller ps4 seems handy. I also really like the much more expensive Free T4 for a smaller model without the pliers - but can't justify the price.

I also have a set of Leatherman raptors to set in the car and they've been great when I've needed them.

    • Use it most days, I cried when I lost my last one.

    • ordered the squirt, thanks for the recommendations every1 =]

    • I can tell you I recovered all my debt from everyone after I got pliers.

  • +1

    Would it work with PS5?

    • +11

Yes but you have to squirt yourself

      • love it

  • Interesting name

  • +2

I'd rather wait for the PS5 version.

  • +1

Make sure not to take it with you on the plane the next time you fly somewhere.

    • +1

Make sure to put it in your checked luggage. Multitools are extra useful when you're travelling and don't have access to real tools - but need to quickly fix something.

  • luv a lil squirt

  • Other Leatherman tools are 20% off. Just ordered the RX skeletool which I’ve had my eye on. $123 was a good price for me.

  • Great little tool, I’ve had one on my keychain for probably a decade now, it’s very useful to just have random pliers. I got mine for like $50 a decade ago, so this price seems alright, holding myswlf back from buying a spare 😅

  • +1

When I used to fly alot , id carry a couple pre-paid postpaks. If I forgot to take off my pocket knives or leathermans and stopped by the conveyor security, id post them either back to my place or to my destination.

    • Interesting to know more about this, would the airport security help you put the paid postpack to the nearest auspost box?

      • +2

        Airport security do jack sh1te.

I've been caught out a few times a domestically and I normally find a newsagent or chemist that could post for you. Some of the bigger terminals have aus post boxes outside.

    • +3

Jeez, this EDC sounds like hard work. Not only do I have to carry a small hardware shop with me everywhere I go, I also have to remember to take prepaid postage satchels as well.
Am going to have to upgrade my backpack to a small golf trolley

      • I guess it depends on how often you go to the sterile area at the airport.

You can actually get multitools which are airport compliant (no sharp tools) but it's a niche market of people who need them.

      • Just keep away from airports and drive instead.

Gerber dime is only $30 at Anaconda. Is this a similar size?

    • For size, the Gerber Vise is probably closer. Bunnings has these for like $25. This is what's been tiding me over as my pocket tool. The first one I purchased, the small screwdriver/bottle opener broke in the first month or so and the blade started feeling wobbly like it wouldn't lock properly and Bunnings replaced it for me. I don't feel the quality is there with the Gerber hence replacing with a Squirt finally.

    • +1

+1 for Gerber Dime as well - depending on level of usage I guess as Leatherman has better warranty (although not life time anymore?)
I also lost it at Sydney Domestic airport :)

    • Victorinox multi tool is about $20

      • Got pliers? Link? I got V but always curious abt leatherman

        • Sorry swiss army not vnox - Search on ebay - Multi Tool Pocket Knife Pliers Multitool Swiss Army Survival Gift Idea Mens

          • @timtam-slam: So cheap. Is quality decent?

            • @Bargain-er: just looks like a cheapo generic tool. stay with the name brands if you want something that will last longer, imo.

    • i like the design gerber dime a lot but the quality and material just isnt quite there. ive broken one already and second one is not looking great. pliers latch thing just buckled under bit of load with single-hand use. second dime is now misaligned, still usable but the two arms arent aligned. good price though, not a big deal if you lose it.

  • +1

    This or Swiss knife?

    • +1

Consensus is that the Equinox has the better scissors, obviously Leatherman has pliers. But the sheer cultural acceptance of the Swiss army knife is not something to be dismissed. Often times security will turn a blind eye to the Swiss knife on my Key ring.

  • I've had a few things confiscated at the airport before boarding my flight and have now learnt to destroy them best I can so no-one else can use it

  • For those of you who have also taken advantage of one of the Olight deals, this is pretty cool (but the shipping kills it).

    • You can probably get a leather one which does something similar.

  • nextools very nice but the mini is known to fail at the locking spring through repeated opening/closing. i use this one regularly

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003792283271.html

'pro' is a big, 'mini' is similar size to the gerber dime and squirt

    • Rebar is completely different market. Do you want it for your toolbox/glovebox/on your belt in a sheath or in your pocket?
Truthfully the scissors on these things aren't normally that good regardless of brand or design. Good knife is much handier for me.
The PS doesn't have a knife at all hence "Travel friendly", but I still wouldn't risk taking through security and losing.

      • Toolbox, home use :) Just hate to carry 5 different tools. Need a sturdy plier. Good point about the scissors. Thanks.

      • Dun mind paying $30 if it's worthy upgrade

        • Comes down to what you're fixing. In the "old days" I had 5 acres of land and young kids so I was always fiddling with chainsaws, kids bikes, outboard engines etc. In that case the Wave and the Skeletool did me well as full size tool "replacements" that I always had on my belt.

These days the jobs are much smaller. Tightening a chair screw, bit of work on the bicycle on the trail (rather than getting out the multi-tool), quickly fixing some electronic equipment , so very different usage. Pocket size tools do me these days.

Decision is if you want full size or pocket size?

          • @Limbot: Is Rebar considered full size? Leaning towards full size but dun want to spend $100. Thanks

            • @Bargain-er: Rebar:
              CLOSED LENGTH: 4 in | 10.16 cm
              OPEN LENGTH: 6.25 in | 15.87 cm
PRIMARY BLADE LENGTH: 2.9 in | 7.36 cm
              WEIGHT: 6.7 oz | 189.94 g
              WIDTH: 1.18 in | 2.99 cm
              OVERALL THICKNESS: 0.65 in | 1.67 cm

              Squirt:
              CLOSED LENGTH: 2.25 in | 5.72 cm
              OPEN LENGTH: 3.8 in | 9.65 cm
              BLADE LENGTH: 1.6 in | 4.06 cm
              WEIGHT: 2 oz | 56.4 g
              WIDTH: .78 in | 1.98 cm
              OVERALL THICKNESS: .5 in | 1.27 cm

Wider pliers, bigger blade, more leverage……… Not the biggest in the range but bigger than the Squirt :)

    • i think the biggest drawback for me would be having to fold it open to access the tools

      • Aren't most pocket tools like that?

        • i avoid the ones that are. many offer access to the tools without having to open the arm or pliers.

just to clarify, i was referring to the rebar.

as limbot pointed out, squirt ps4 along with most others on here allows access from folded position.

plenty of great options out there, spoilt for choice really. hard to choose just ONE!

          • @DONMAI: Ah right… Too bad, i purchased Rebar already. But I need the more heavy duty one.

            • +1

@Bargain-er: it's a solid choice. letherman knows what theyre doing and few advantages to having it like that, feels better in the hand when closed and when the tool is out. never really know until youre using it.

im just lazy and thats why i really like the gerber dime design. tiny and most importantly, the bottle opener always accessible

              • @DONMAI: Thanks, yeah probably i ll get the squirt too if I get random $15 catch coupon haha. Appreciate ur feedback. Thanks

              • @DONMAI: Just received the Rebar. Solid build and i like it better than my Victorinox tbh. It's Virgin tight tho, should i oil it? The. Leather sheat cab be better imho. Smaller than i thought it will be. So the squirt will even be smaller hey… I totally get it your point of needing to fold open which is a bit of hassle… :)

      • +1

You don't have to with the Squirt

  • Awesome little tool. I bought a blue one about 10 years ago for US$30 and it's lived in my work briefcase/bag/backpack ever since. It's amazing how many times it's gotten me out of a jam; I've used everything on it multiple times, even the file. I think it's handier than even the larger Leatherman models.

Edit: I just realised that I get a further 8% off for Catch giftcards through Reward Gateway, which means another $4.47 savings.

  • The Squirt PS4 is pretty good for the size. I keep it on my keys. I find I don't use it as much because I also have a Juice XE6 in my pocket, but it's reassuring to know it's always on me when I leave the house if I forget something. I used to use the pliers most often when I carried an SAK instead of the Juice, but I don't use them as much since switching. If you don't have a bigger one, or want to be sure it's on you, it's almost perfectly made for what it does. If they could just add tweezers and a toothpick it would completely lose my little SAK too.

  • Mine just came in,
It's smaller than expected and cute, the wife loves it
