  • I think that's like Eisbaer level money for the cooler … unfortunately I can't check as Aquatuning appears to be under some sort of DDOS or technical issue.

This chip run so hot, good for winter heater.

Only if you run it at full throttle 241w boost mode. At 4.6 GHz (130w) it still scores higher than the 5900x in cinebench 23. Multi 5900x (20,000) and 12900K (22000) at full throttle (27000). In single core 12900K wipes the floor with 5900x. I've had both and the Intel is far more stable. The AMD drivers are still not as stable.

To those of you who downvote facts, your life won't improve by being negative and narrow minded. That's also a fact.

        • +5

Didn’t downvote but your comment didn’t even say anything about temperature.

          • +2

@askbargain: 67-72 degrees celcius in an XPS 8950 closed case. Lower in a better case.

          • @askbargain: Temperature isn't useful if you're comparing between platforms. They did mention power draw which you can draw meaningful comparisons from.

        • +2

I think you're being downvoted for mentioning stability and drivers. I've never heard of driver issues with CPUs before.

          • -4

@BROKENKEYBOARD: I said AMD drivers. I'm referring to the AMD chipset drivers. When you use an AMD CPU you also need to use those. Look up "amd chipset drivers problems" on Google. The biggest issue is USBs not working randomly and memory compatibility and XMP issues.

I've had comments downvoted before when sharing knowledge and facts. I know how it feels, but unfortunately it's common on ozbargain when people don't understand. Here have my up votes and stay positive.

          • @Handymancan: I wish I could have given you more than one positive vote. Thanks mate

I think usb issues only affected 5 series motherboards and not all of them , as for the 12900k being more stable etc i believe a lot of games don't work with the little cores big core set up so you could say the same for intel

Be aware you need to run Windows 11 to properly support this CPU. If you are a power Windows 10 user there are a lot of tweets that many view as UI regressions it appears to mainly support touch better.

Oh and if you are gaming at 1600p+ the extra CPU performance will not help.

But still a very fast CPU in the right circumstances

I have this CPU in the Dell 8950 with air cooling. It's fine.

12th gen are a lot better than 11th gen.

I prefer it to my 5950X

Cheapest price for the Waterforce X 360mm is also from Shopping Express at $239, well below most of their competitors. (Most of them are in the 300s)

As for the 12900K, should be ~$899 in most places.

Assuming Gigabyte hasn't managed to pull an Enermax (ie. A dud design that clogs up and dies), the fans aren't complete trash, a effectively $100 360mm AIO is pretty decent?

Heck, even if the fans are terrible noisy things, you could still probably replace them with Arctics or Noctuas and still be positive compared other 360mm rads.

Side bonus as others have pointed out, you will stay warm in winter with this bundle.

    • It's an Asetek unit if I recall, so reliability will be among the best of them AIO-wise.

      • If only everything else about the Asetek units wasn't rubbish

        • Apart from being Asetek, what's actually wrong with them? They're normally among the top performers.

Read this as the cpu with a 3060 for a second and almost shit myself. Snap back to reality.

Not much better than the 12600k from what I googled other than more cores… Seriously I think I'll do a 12600k if I do a PC atm, was considering 5600x but it's better and cheaper

    • +1

5600x been going for $380 lately in the sales… No afterpay or anything… So I wouldn't say it's cheaper than 12600k

      • +1

Sorry what, not much better than 12600k? You joking right? ‘Other than more cores’, yeah that’s kinda the whole point of the CPU though… this CPU is amazing bang for buck right now tbh. Shame the mobos are much more expensive than AMD in a lot of cases.

      • -1

I said 12600k was cheaper but maybe not at that price on sale.

Pretty. Decent CPU tbh I was looking at single and 4 core proformance btw

  • Epic thanks OP. Buying this. Can you recommend a good 1700 MOBO to go with it? Needs to be ATX form factor for Fractal Design Define R5 ATX Mid Tower Case.

    • Most should be ok. Also depends on DDR4 vs DDR5

    • -1

Working on some DDR4 and DDR5 mobo options with Shopping Express.

      • Any word on those deals? Spec'ing up a system now…

  • Any thoughts on the coolers for those who owns them? I had to warranty one for a customer the other day because the plastic ring that holds the tube cover was snapped, and by the look of them they are really easy to break.

    • -3

You'll need a refrigerator cooler to cool this thing.
Anyway a AIO triple 360mm fan or quad 240mm fans to cool this.

  • I already have a s1700 motherboard and 360mm AIO (been grabbing parts as they are on special), what I really need is a decent deal on DDR5 to go with it.

  • +2

Man times like these I wish I stuck with the Intel platform even if that means buying an expensive motherboard to support these crazy powerful 12th gen Intel chips. Oh well, I will just upgrade my 5600x whenever the 5900x finally hits $500 which I'm hoping will be the end of this year or early 2023 even though the single core performance/speeds won't be anywhere near as good (which matters to me a lot as I care about emulation a lot)

Good to be paired with $2000 RTX 3080.

  • Sorry, it might be a noob question, but whos the guy in the avatar? Even JV has that same pic.

      Jules Verne.

  • Ordered this today, so far my invoice is marked as "paid", but no news on the order about shipping status.
First time buying at Shopping Express, anything I should be concerned about?

    • I wouldn't worry. You'll get a notification when it's shipped.

    • +1

No mate, I can vouch for them (no I don't work for them etc), I've bought an intel 6700k, ryzen 1800x,3600,3900x,5900x through them no issues, usually delivered within a week at most.
