Purchased. Really wish you had Google Checkout as an option, dislike having to sign up to every site I buy things on!

Ozbargainers - if you didn't know - LSD = Low Self Discharge!

I didn't. Was trippin' when I saw that.

        @spawnpoint, See above

They've also neglected to mention these are NiMH batteries! (except in the description on their website)

I want to buy two packs, but let's see how many Ozb's are after deals on LSD AAA's!

        • +1

Thanks Lukian, I also forgot to put NiMh in the title of this deal!

          Fixed now.

  • These will go nicely with the myriad of led push lights around the house. Not that I've ever had the batteries go flat in one, haha!

  • This is my first post, and it took me several edits to figure out how to tag correctly. Apparently multiple tags have to be separated by a comma, whitespace won't do. How do I get the OzB "Tagging Guidelines" updated to say this?

    • Try posting in Talk With A Mod, though to be fair, it's not called a "comma-separated list" for nothing ;)

    • In the tag box it states that the list is comma separated.

      • Hmm, not when I do it. I just tried editing this page, and all it says is "Please check Tagging Guidelines on how to properly tag a deal. You should use no more than 5 tags to describe this offer."

Searching for the word "comma" shows that word does not exist on the edit page nor on the "Tagging Guidelines" page.

I've found the "Comments/Feedback/Suggestions Thread", I'll post a message there. Thanks!

          Russ,

If the "Tag" text box is empty, you will see inside the box (in light grey text) instructions regarding comma separated values. If you click in the text box then the light grey text will disappear.

        • +1

Ah, thanks for that, I missed it the first time I entered a tag, and then couldn't find it when I was editing the tags because I didn't delete everything.

Hobby King got Turnigy AAA LSDs. 26 for $30 delivered (my package came from Singapore)

A lot cheaper.. I did a break-in cycle on my Maha charger and got about 850 mAh, which is pretty good.

    • Can I use my eneloop charger to charge the Turnigy's?

      • yes, both are NiMH

  • +4

One big difference is that the Panasonic eVoltas are made in China, vs Made in Japan for the eneloops.

  • AAA LSDs should only cost around $1 to produce each…

There are some japanese brands like enitime, (dx) which are roughly $2 each.

AA LSDs on the other hand, well they are naturally more expensive.

    • production cost would be nowhere near $1, else they'd be $10+

    • If you prefer cheaper ones, get them from Hobby King (80 cents each, shipping extra though).

$2.50 shipping cost for this deal is very good - if I were to post 10 of these personally, AusPost would charge me at least $6.50.

      • $8.99 for 2kg as a shipping option from Hobby King now.

  • is LSD a drug? :P
    lolz

  • I haven't used these before. Can anyone please tell me what type of charger you need?

    • Just any standard NiMH Charger.

      • Thanks skysky

  • With 1500 recharges that's enough AAA's to last a lifetime.

    • +1

NiMH batteries deteriorate with age and are affected by fast charging (which most people do). Total battery capacity falls as the cell ages. The only realistic way of getting 1500 charges with a similar capacity to that printed on the label is to use up the estimated recharge cycles quickly (over a few years, not decades) and to use slow charging.

  • Wow, pretty good deal, but sooo many batteries haha where are you going to use them all?

EDIT: I don't care, this is too cheap haha. Bought one.

  • Does anyone know how these compare to Eneloop?
(Except the China VS Japan bit, 800mAh VS 750mAh and 1600 VS 1500.)

    • +2

According to the following Japanese site, Eneloop (made in Japan) holds charges better. In fact, it seems to indicate Evolta cannot actually hold 80% charge after 1 year (only managed 40%). Eneloop also sustained higher voltage (1.2V) longer.

      http://www.gakitama.com/juudev/evolta.htm

I cannot read Japanese (so used google translate and only looked at bits and pieces).

In short, based on the report, Eneloop batteries are better. But, then again, that's a Japanese site.

      • +1

Strange that after the report people are still buying the Evolta batteries.

        • +2

It's the internet - don't trust anything until LOTS of people say it.

Even then, it could be sockpuppeting.

        • It's the internet - don't trust anything until LOTS of people say it.

Agreed. However, if I may, I would like to amend that to "It's the internet - don't trust anything until LOTS of RELIABLE people say it."

Many internet communities & forums are like a bloody bunch of old fishwives!!! ;)

      • This link relates to a 2008 product comparison. The new Panasonic Evolta range was only released in January 2012. The New Evolta batteries offer similar if not better specifications than the Eneloop.

      • +1

That was just 1 report. I was hoping to find more reports. It is certainly weird that Evolta did not hold charge properly after 4 months.

Anyway, there is another Japanese report: http://www.kansai-event.com/kinomayoi/battery3/NiMH_EVOLTA.h…

It shows a better result after 2 months (87.3%). However, the % figure is not the best indicator (as it can be manipulated somewhat) - Evolta quoted a higher max mA value so it is harder to sustain that amount of charge for a longer period - still, the result does not beat Eneloop.

  • bought one

    • +1

This is the charger I have and use it to do all my charging - its a fantastic charger (recommend accessing the user guide to really understand all its features/capabilities before buying)

      http://protog.com.au/maha-powerex-mhc9000-wizardone-aaaaa-ba…

You can probably get it slightly cheaper on ebay but I bought mine locally from protog so if it ever failed (I've had cheaper DSE / ALDI chargers fail within 6 months) was easier to get it fixed.

Just bought a set of batteries (this deal) as well but noticed website says my account does not exist although I did purchase something from them last year (Sanyo Eneloop 8x AA NiMh Rechargable battery pack (AUSTRALIAN STOCK - NOTE CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DONATION)).

      • I agree with your choice of charger, it's excellent, and Protog were really fast sending it to me. I only wish that charger did C and D cells as well! I see that Protog now has a Maha charger which does AAA, AA, C and D cells, but not 9V (no real loss), and it's almost twice the price. Oh well, I've already done my dough, I'll have to make some adaptors or something.

I also had the same problem with JungleJumble, they forgot who I was, and I bought the same Eneloop deal. I don't think I had to sign up for that one, though, because whenever I sign up to a site I send myself an email with the password, so I can "remember" it later. I didn't do that for JungleJumble, so perhaps signing up wasn't needed for that deal?

What uses C's and D's these days anyway. Get the adapters for those limited applications. Big torches are so last century :p

        • +2

I'm just imagining a security guard hitting a thief over the head with an AA torch……

Seriously though, there are some applications where AA batteries just don't cut it. Like when you want your portable stereo/boom box to last for more than two hours.

        • I'm just imagining a security guard hitting a thief over the head with an AA torch……

Hey, if the thief pulls out a wicked dolphin blade like this: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32031 then the guard would have no choice but to use the excessive force of a AA; or heaven forbid AAA; torch! :)

Smithers: "What are you doing sir?"
Mr Burns: "I'm giving you the thrashing of a lifetime!"

        • A fellow WP advised the following charger http://www.expressbattery.com.au/Rechargeable-Batteries/Fast…

With cheap p&h you should save a few dollars; & with "eneloops" the analyzer function is likely redundant.

        • Thanks Tetchy, but I'm not sure it would work correctly. I've read that the charging rate has to be at least C/2 for fast chargers to correctly detect the -dV/dT point for charge termination, and with 9Ah D-cells, that would be 4.5A - higher than your charger can do.

I already trickle-charge my D-cells anyway, it's just annoying to do. I use C/30 (300mA for my 9Ah batteries) for 48 hours. I set an alarm on my phone so I don't forget and leave them on charge permanently.

      • Protog have the Maha MH-C9000 on ebay now free shipping (ends soon). $79.95. They also have Eneloop AAA's.

On ebay found new model Eneloop's $22 for 8, $25 for 8 glitter. Be careful not to buy the Lite version (lower capacity).

  • +2

I bought 12 eneloop AAA on ebay for 30 USD posted.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Genuine-SANYO-eneloop-4-AAA-Ni-M…

    • That's a bargain considering some are suggesting Eneloops are superior to Evoltas.

    • Those ones are the Lite version - 550 vs 850mAh for the normal ones.

    • From the identification code these appear to be the original 1,000 cycle version. A & B revisions increase cycles to 1,500 & 1,800; and also improve on LSD.

      Still a good buy, however!

  • is it best to get these, or wait to eneloops are back on special again?

    • +1

There are not enough reports comparing the two at the moment.

So based on the two reports (which one does seem weird - let's give Panasonic the benefit of doubt for the moment), if you generally use the batteries several months after you charge them, eneloops are safer.

If you use them within 1 month after they were fully charged, then Panasonic ones are fine.

      • Those reports are old hat, based on 2008 battery chemistry. The new Evolta's have similar discharge specs at 80% after 1 year, higher recharge cycles 1600 v's 1500 and similar mAh power on AAA and higher on AA. Adding to this, Panasonic's recent acquisition of Sanyo has lead to numerous suggestions the chemistry may be shared or very similar between the two brands.

There is a user review started 28/3 http://budgetlightforum.com/node/8963 comparing 6 different LSD batteries, judging by the figures to date the Evolta has faired extremely well.

        Other interesting reads
        http://budgetlightforum.com/node/8963

        • I understood that a second revision of standard eneloops refer to 1800 cycles; and improved longevity? Perhaps check WikiP!

From memory new C & D cells are available too, in Japan initially.

        • +2

To junglejumble, the link you posted only shows that Evolta can reach a higher mA value once fully charged. That's not news (even the Japanese sites showed that).

The issue here is how well the batteries hold the charge after a long period of time. The user review you provided showed nothing on that. Bear in mind that Eneloop Pro (much higher max mA) has worse charge retention value than Eneloop (non-Pro). Sanyo is basically saying high mA makes it harder to keep the charge.

Not saying Eneloop batteries are better in every aspect - even the first Japanese review showed areas where Evolta are better. It is just charge retention, Eneloop appears to be better (again, not enough reviews to really justify that statement).

As for Panasonic buying Sanyo, it probably has little to do with LSD batteries, more to do with Sanyo having large Lithium Ion battery contracts with various companies.

Once my orders of Evolta, Eneloop and el-cheapo brand LSD batteries arrive, I will do my own tests.

        • The newest Eneloops have 1800 recharge cycles and also better power retention then any previous Eneloops or current Evoltas. They appear to be only available in Japan though:

          http://panasonic.net/sanyo/news/2011/10/06-1.pdf

I agree with you regarding the Panasonic vs Sanyo thing. Both companies still actively develop and market different LSD battery brands (at least for now). It's more of a strategic investment move for Panasonic regarding its aquisition of Sanyo.

    • I don't recall seeing an Eneloop AAA on special. DSE had only AA on special.

    • +3

If you only need 8 batteries, consider these AAA Eneloops for $22.00:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8-Genuine-SANYO-Improved-Eneloop-…

Highly rated eBay seller, but you'll prob. have to wait around 3 weeks for delivery from HK.

      Link thanks to wfdTamar.

  • Thanks to Russ for publicising the deal for those not watching in the other thread; and of course to JungleJumble for offering it!

I just have one question about using my Evoltas, how many will I need, and exactly where will I have to insert them, in order to take on that smartass little robot in the Ironman Triathlon??? :o

  • Purchased. Thanks.

Just hope DS will have those glitter AAs on specials again soon.

  • Im trying to buy these but I can't seem to get free shipping?

    • They didn't have free shipping, it was always $2.50. They must have increased the price of the batteries.

    • Shipping is $2.50. Price for Evoltas is supposed to be $27.50.

They sneekingly upped the price by $2.50.

  • JungleJumble have increased the price to $30 plus $2.50 shipping = $32.50, so I'd say they have reached their limit of 100 sales. I've marked this deal as "expired" because of the price increase.

Still not a bad price though, at $32.50 delivered, if that is the normal price.

    • It still says OZB Special in description so should still be OzB deal price.

      • Yeah well I added it to my cart, but when I check out it wants to charge 2.50 for shipping?

So is it free shipping or not rep?

  • +1

Are these really that good of a deal for $30 when you can get 10 LSD 800mah for $14 delivered?

    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idp…

    • Those batteries look very tempting.

Anyone tested them to see how good they are, and did you use them in something that really needs the low self-discharge, like a remote control?

Also, how long did delivery take?

      • There are a heap of positive customer reviews on that page at the bottom. I haven't purchase from there myself yet (need to find a charger first).

Someone else here recommended these guys in another thread.

  • Deal was originally for 50 and upped to 100…I did post 22/04/2012 - 09:34 that the deal would sell out as stock was limited.

    • +3

      What stock?
Did you have any at all to begin with?

  • Thanks Russ for updating.

  • +1

When will the orders be processed?

  • +3

hmmm selling items you don't have in stock?
Last time I'll ever deal with this dodgy mob!

    • +2

Wouldn't suprise me if my other orders from overseas arrive first (those order have at least posted - this one is still sitting in "processing" status).

      • Yep, I've had an ebay order I placed the same day as this already arrive last friday…a small parcel fair enough, but only using standard free HK post. Not happy JJ! :s

      • +1

        Can't change my vote anymore.

        • +1

          Spewing!

These guys need to take a leaf out of Dealfox's book…the GPS I ordered on Sunday just arrived! :o

        • Requested a cancellation + refund. The customer service rep was helpful.

          Some info:

          • Too many of us want those batteries. Their supplier did not have enough stock.
          • If you ordered on Saturday, you will have a good chance to get the next batch (coming this week).
          • If you ordered on Sunday, you will need to wait a bit longer.

Good service overall, so still + for me.

  • Mine arrived today (1 May 2012), and I ordered on 21/4 (Friday evening), so delivery took six business days.

They came in a normal envelope, no padding. Batteries came as five packs of two batteries each, just like the picture above, and the five packs were taped together.

I just ran a discharge test on one of the batteries, at 500mA and using a Maha MH-C9000 charger. I didn't charge the battery, I just wanted to see how true the "ready to use" label is. I got 580mAh out of the battery. As the batteries are labelled "Up to 800mAh min 750mAh", that suggests the batteries were manufactured 12 to 18 months ago.

  • +1

I also ordered on 21/4 and my order status is still showing 'processing' for the past week!. Disappointing!.

    • Read my comment above, too many of us want those batteries. Their supplier did not have sufficient stock (to fulfill the unexpectedly large number of orders).

You ordered on 21/4 - so you have a good chance to get the next batch of stock (arriving this week - could be today or tomorrow).

For me, I bought some other AAA LSD batteries from overseas sellers so I've elected to cancel the order (the CSR was helpful and friendly).

      • +1

They must be getting a lot of calls, the CSR rep didn't seem so helpful when I called.

I have emailed requesting cancellation and refund, I will purchase from a supplier that does not mislead customers.

The JumbleJumble rep has at minimum fully mislead buyers, and at worst completely lied to buyers.

        • Apologies re the late delivery of your order. A refund to your paypal account has been completed as per our phone discussion.

This group offer was exclusive to OzB and heavily subscribed; original 50 sales allocated from our stock were surprisingly surpassed within hours. A call made to our supplier re further stock availability confirmed new stock was due to land within days.

Re this unforseen delay; if this is somehow misleading or lying to you I’m truly sorry you feel this way. We try our best not to limit these deals to small quantities, so everyone get's a fighting chance. Unfortunately in this case, there has been a delayed wait for some that ordered later than the Saturday the deal was submitted.

We will happily take refunds, as per your request, for anyone that can’t wait.

        • You were quick issuing a refund I have to give you credit for that.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat.. pretty poor stock control and ordering system !!

      • I ordered 2 lots because I didn't want to ask my wife to login and order again. I have just emailed them about order status and they automatically cancelled one order. Really very poor service from these guys. First you take and accepted the orders then you don't update us and when we follow-up you just cancelled the order and still no update on the other one so am I expecting to get the other one soon?

Instead of really wasting my time waiting for this, I could have bought the Sanyo Eneloop from Amazon around that price and have it by next week instead I chose to buy from this mob.

        • I got a call from a rep from Jungle. I wasn't expecting that. The apology was sincere and was told that it will be delivered next week. Good to still see they will make that personal call for the stuff up.

  • Hey All, Quick update re Evolta stock. After a shocking delay with only half the stock forward ordered delivered to us. We've finally got on top of this one and will have outstanding orders out today and tomorrow. Once again apologies to all concerned this hold up was unforeseen. We will update via email for all those not subscribed to this thread. JJ Support
