Landline Phone Number $1/Month with Free Forwarding of Voicemail to Email @ CrazyTel

1420

Not for everyone, but CrazyTel have a deal they’ve been promoting on whirlpool.

Basically, on the PAYG plan it’s free to use and $1/month for a landline number which is forwarded to your smartphone. This can be setup to go to voicemail. The recorded voicemail messages are then emailed to your associated email address as *.wav files so you can return them when you’re ready from your personal mobile (with presumably free calls).

Call forwarding costs to Australian mobiles 0.05c/min and 0.02/min to other landlines. Personally, the straight to voicemail (professional voice actor to record one ~ $30 off Fiverr) > voicemail message sent to email monitored by workplace > free call from mobile is, in my opinion, the ozbargain power move.

Good for businesses who are after a landline to boost credibility without having to worry about the costs and inconvenience of running two phone numbers/lines.

Hope it’s handy to someone :)

  • how is it $1? showing $0 with call costs or $10 with unlimited calls?

  • How much is the charge for forwarding the land line number to my mobile number?

    • As HSP mentioned, Call forwarding costs to Australian mobiles 0.05c/min. and 0.02 to other landlines.

      • -3

Wait so if someone leaves a voicemail lasting 24 hours from their mobile to your landline they will bill you 5 cents x 60 mins x 24 hours?

That is 7200 cents lol or $72 if someone wants to prank you or is a clutz or is forgetful.

        • +2

Voicemail length is capped - you can't even leave a 10 minute voicemail, never mind 1440…

          • @Nom: Oh TIL I honestly thought it was unlimited but that makes sense though.

Is it universally capped at a certain number at all mobile service providers or do some have longer than the others.

      • Call forwarding costs to Australian mobiles 0.05c/min

        Incredible. Maybe 5c/min.

  • +2

Call forwarding costs to Australian mobiles 0.05c/min.
    0.02 to other landlines.

      Thanks for the info

    • Thanks mate. Added to post 🙏

    • +18

      0.05c/min

Actually, it is a hundred time that. 5c/min. :)

      • +1

        whoops! my mistake

      • -1

        Isn't that 10x and not 100x

        • Your correct not wrong

        • No, it's 100x.

      • -1

No it's not. A dollar is 1.00,Ten cents would be 0.10 so 5cents is 0.05.

        • +1

It says 0.05c, not $0.05, which is 100 times more.

    • +7

The CrazyTel CIS shows this correctly with the dollar sign. The Call Forwarding Cost numbers are…

      To Australian Landlines $0.02/Min
      To Australian Mobiles $0.05/Min

The omission of the dollar sign gives the impression that the rates are decimals of cents. While this is not your intention it is better to show the details correctly as per the CIS.

  • +1

No where does it say Phone number is $1/month unless you read CIS, I was keen but no longer am, If they hide such a small fee, what else do they hide.

    • It's a good thing they have a "Crazytel Transparent, Free and Equal policy" on pricing.

    • +1

Actually, I see that it's listed on the main page in a "Quick Pricing/Feature Overview". But that's after a dark red section which makes it look like the bottom of the page. Could be just a case of bad web design, but it really should be listed among all their bullet points up top as well.

      • It's also listed on the Home Phone page but not the page that was linked?

    • +1

The montly plan fee is zero dollars (* DID and calls not included).

The $1 per month is to have a DID which is optional (although necessary for inbound calls).

      • Does it cost anything to receive inbound calls? And do I need their app installed to receive calls, as long as I have a data/wifi connection?

  • +1

Can I port over an existing land line number?

    • +1

Yes, I did a transfer from TPG years back. It did take a couple of days but it worked.

      • +1

        Tks.

  • +1

Maybe if their signup portal worked

  • +6

This is great for Belong Mobile users, who want a cheap voicemail service.

    • How would you set it up?

    • +1

Belong doesn't have VM? Is it possible to disable VM on Telstra?

      • Belong has "Message2txt", a voice to text service. Checking … you need to request them to disable it. Then you can set your own diversion.

  • -1

OP the signup link is not working :(

  • I used CT as my trunking incoming line for my cloud 3CX service. It worked quite well.
Shame they cannot do unlimited international calls to certain common countries like USA, Hone Kong, etc. I need to find an alternative solution, to get voipline.net.au, for the international outbound route.

BTW, there has always been $1 per landline number for CT. CT is also Whirlpool favourite lol

    • -1

      Hone Kong

Dont know if they change their name

      • +3

        They are hiding from china

        • +1

          lol no politics

          • @bjdchwr: This op is showing his fanatics to politics @Chinaforever

  • I think the link got ozbargained!

  • If you are tech savvy, register an account on Amazon Web Services and configure Amazon Connect service instead, you should get some freebies on first year as a new user too. That said, $1 a month sounds like a good deal.

    • -1

If you are tech savvy and know how to budget you'll try to avoid using the big 3 cloud providers

  • +1

can you setup virtual land line number on your mobile

    • +4

      That’s essentially what this is

  • I use twilio for this, but it required some setup. This looks like it will simplify my setup and cost less.

    • +1

Win-win. I looked into twillio but decided this crazytel deal is better too. Being whirlpool favourite /endorsed helped too.

6 months ago 35c/month for national DIDs (No Setup Fee)

CrazyTel have a deal they’ve been promoting on whirlpool.

35c/month for national DIDs (No Setup Fee)

That's the CrazySaver plan, this deal is the PAYG plan. CrazySaver appears to still be available, but has a different pricing structure. Quote from the thread:

Why are calls to mobiles 9c/min on the CrazySaver Plan yet just 5c/min on the PAYG Plan available to the general public?

This plan is for people who don't use the phone too much and just want to host their DID. The other plans are available and you can choose what works for you.

CrazySaver will be a better plan for some people, I'm certainly considering it, because I rarely ring mobiles from my VOIP line. Thanks for pointing it out!

      • No worries. You also get $2 credit. To signup you will need a mobile number that can auto call.

  • +3

looks like theres a $2 sign up bonus!!

    • First two months free?! Geez it’s the gift that keeps giving haha

  • Their website is super slow at the moment, loos like it’s getting ozb’ed.

  • Nah i never use my home phone as i dont even have home phone lol

  • Looks like you need a compatible device to use this service.

    • +3

Iphone and android apps available. Think we found that last holdout running PalmOS still

      • Thanks.

  • +2

Anyone still on the old MNF Whirlpool saver plan (now vonex)? Still have the old DID number.

    • +2

Username checks out haha. Nice. What was the deal?

      • I believe it was no monthly fee, 10c untimed Australia wide, 15c to mobiles and free DID, by going through the Whirlpool link.

        • DID was $5/year but I just check my account and it's now $15/year

          • @jackofspade: I think it was $5 for a non-WP plan. Or maybe that came in later. I've never been billed for my DID.

            https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/899336

            • @OldBugger: It was originally $5 for a WP plan but then they Price Jacked it without notice, one of the reasons I left

              • @bdl: The older whirlpool saver account is still $0 with DID for those who signed up when it was on offer.

              • @bdl: WTF? When did this take effect? My last anniversary invoice was for $5 and the monthlies have been for $0 lately, but I'd rather not wait to be hit with a $15 charge without notice.

    • +1

No Whirlpool DID, but I still have my free DID from Pennytel, which was eaten by MNF, which was eaten by Vonex.

      • Ah yes, good ol pennytel. It was a good competitor with MNF in the WP forums. They don't do VoIP any longer? I see they have a website

        • +1

          Old pennytel was liquidated.
New pennytel is a different business.

    • +2

oh yes! I have been on that plan since 2011! pricing's the same, just adding a new DID is $15/year not $5. Old DIDs are still charged at $5 WP Special. I use my Melbourne DID to call my family and they call me from overseas. Even rewired an old analogue phone - nostalgia :)

  • Is the site working for anyone else?

    • Nope. It seems to be in meltdown.

  • skype number is not too bad as well, when you purchased 50% off gift card years ago. my credit still good for next couple of years, hopefully, 50% skype credit will showing up again

    • I ported my Skype DID number to Crazytel because Crazytel was much cheaper to keep the number active

  • People still use landline, wah

    • +2

Yep, and loving it. I give out my (VOIP) landline as my primary number, so people don't interrupt me when I'm at work, and potentially at a meeting. Friends and family know they can call me on my mobile if it's urgent or an emergency.

Have you ever been in a discussion with your boss, and been interrupted by a call like "your optometrist here, your glasses are ready for collection" or something similar? That call would go straight through to voicemail with this system.

Also useful when you drop into the shops on the way home, you can ring your landline and ask "how much milk is in the fridge?". Simpler than ringing the mobiles of your family members, who may not be at home at the time you ring.

      • +2

Can give your mobile number to anyone but, if someone you don't want to be contact, turn your phone upside down ( call goes to message bank, well my phone does) or press the silent button.

Other great feature is go silent on people not in your address book.

If I'm at the shop, ring other half's mobile number 💁‍♂️ In our family they answer faster on FB messager LOL

I don't think I had a land line for like 10+ years, never missed a bit.

Mains pros is that I don't need to pay extra for any of these features.

  • I am with voipline $0.65 for a number.

    • Oh cool. Does it work in the same way/use case as I’ve mentioned above?

    • +1

I am with voipline $0.65 for a number.

Their website says $1.50/month, how are you getting $0.65?
      https://www.voipline.net.au/sip-trunking#call-rates-and-plan…

      • +1

        I think it's 65 cents a local number but $1.50 for a trunking line.
I am both CT and voipline customer.

        Service
        SIP Trunk channel(s)$1.50
        Inbound DID (613 - Australia, Melbourne)$0.65
        SIP Line Unlimited Plus 1ch$36.45
        Total$38.60
Note: Please use the "Order services" tab to change subscriptions.

        • Thanks, for a moment they sounded like they could be lower cost than this deal.

        • I bought number for 0.65 and diverted to my mobile. I didn't pay more than 0.65 for number to be diverted on my phone.
I paid call charges extra on a call basis.

  • +6

Landlines AND wav files? I feel all tingly. And old.

    • +1

Haha biz cards in MS Paint. Check it in ‘infranview’ by double clicking the dead red cat icon.

  • Note to anyone considering porting across from another VOIP service, this is a pre-paid plan. It sounds like there's no way to get it to auto-bill your PayPal account or credit card when your credit runs low.

To any users who already have this service, do you get warnings when your credit runs low?

  • I'm still with a grandfathered whirlpool plan from mynetfone but this would otherwise be perfect for me.
Great for working from home. I never give my mobile number out.

    • Does your setup work pretty much the same as this? Which app do u use with your VOIP number? Thanks!

  • Just for clarity, outbound calls will be charged as per the rate, but inbound calls and voicemail to email, are free? except $1 per month????

    • Interested to know too

    • inbound calls and voicemail to email, are free? except $1 per month????

The only additional cost is the cost of data. Free if you're using WiFi, but if you're using mobile data, it will chew through your data allowance, and you could be charged for excess data.

If you go on holidays overseas, and are using roaming mobile data, it's likely the mobile data will have smaller "allowance" than you're used to, and be even more expensive.

  • +1

Has anyone been able to register? I am just on the "Confirm for verification" screen, but nothing ever happens. Did we break their site? Kind of a worry.

    • +1

same, not making any call to verify.

  • If you need a UK DID, https://www.sipgatebasic.co.uk/, £0 rental and free voicemail. Can be installed on mobile using GSWave, https://basichelp.sipgate.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/204236351-…, as can Crazytel. No need to pay for Voip to forward to mobile, install GSWave and receive calls on your mobile. Calls to other Sipgate users are free, https://basichelp.sipgate.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/204162212-….

    • How do you find the calls through them? When I was in England, a decade ago, I tried using my MyNetFone account to call people in Australia. The delay was so bad that we ended up speaking like we were using walkie-talkies and saying "over" whenever we finished talking.

Do you experience similar delay when using SipGate to talk with UK people?

  • Can receive landline calls on my smartphone data/wifi connection using their app? Any cost to receiving phone calls?
