Guardians of the Galaxy received great reviews, surprised to see it on GamePass so quickly.

    • +4

According to Square Enix the game didn't sell as well as they expected. After reading an article about it I was wondering how long it would take to come to Game Pass.

      • +2

I mean, Square Enix seem to have unrealistic expectations most of the time when it comes to sales.

        • Yeah, they seem to be run by monkeys. The same happened with the Tomb Raider games. They too, like GotG, launched in October or thereabouts, in a crowded release window. Having worked for several publishers over the years, the reasoning is sound, October-November is statistically when people spend the most on games, but it's also the most cutthroat period. If at first they don't succeed, not sure why they haven't experimented with owning a different release window, I can't help but feel it would have really helped something like GotG stand out more, was a great title.

Probably GOTY for me last year. I never played the Avengers game so didn’t have the hurt of that deterring me from picking it up. The combat controls can feel a little basic and the team huddles a little repetitive by the end of the game but the story and script was excellent.

Hoping for a sequel with the addition of co-op!

    • +1

Games that get bundled never sell well, guardians of the galaxy was a NVIDIA bundle for a while last year

      • Death Stranding

        • I should maybe have said bundled at launch, death stranding was a PS exclusive for awhile wasn't it?

  • +1

Finally going to start Final Fantasy 13 now that all three are there. Hopefully beat Nier Automata in 14 days, challenge accepted

    • +4

Finished all three. I loved the first one the best. Two and three feel like fan fiction.

The game showers you with jargon but I promise it gets better.

Tip for the upgrading system: Pick one weapon and commit to it to the end game per character. And ideally don't upgrade weapons until you know which 3 characters you want in your party, as upgrading is real expensive.

And also it seems to be generally unpopular as a FF entry but I personally thought most people just parrot each other and are unreasonable open world supremacists that think any non open world game is inferior. FF13 for me was a lot of fun.

      • Totally agree about the how two and three feel like fan fiction. I had to stop playing two because it was going to spoil my love for one. FF13 (1) combat is a thing to behold - so exhilarating. I was a huge action RPG FromSoftware fan but now I am all about turn-based combat.

More importantly the update just came out for the XBOX app on PC, you can now install in any folder and have access to the game files. So modding Gamepass games is now possible! Folders no longer locked.

    • +2

This should be bigger news. PC Gamepass with an app people want to use is a Steam-killer imo.

    • Only selected games.

  • +2

I enjoyed Guardians but the gameplay was so ridiculously repetitive. The story telling worked overtime to save it. If they improved on the gameplay in a sequel you’d have a good game on your hands.

    • +2

Totally agree. I really like the bantering of the group but the gameplay lets it down. The combat is quite boring.

    • +3

In 100% agreement. The gameplay during the last few hours really irritated me. Repetition had well and truly set in by that point.

Great soundtrack and loved the writing for Drax. It’s worth a play for sure, but I do think it is overrated.

  • +1

Wow. I bought Guardians for $49 and still haven't played it. Didn't think it'd come to gamepass this fast or I'm just way too slow at clearing my backlog.

    • +1

Exact same boat for me. Can’t believe it’s out on Game Pass so quick!

Do I try to sell my physical copy and play it on Game Pass?

      • +1

I had a quick look at market place and xbox copies are listed for $30.. still better than nothing I guess, but still feels off to give away money

  • +6

Worth mentioning flight simulator is on cloud today too! Previously pc install only

    • I'm on Game Pass Ultimate, but cannot see FS2020 in my cloud gaming list. I do have it locally installed, not sure if this affects access on my PC.

I hope they haven't set the app that you can't access in the cloud if locally installed…

      • i just logged in on my phone and it's definitely there for me.

Could be a stupid question but if you have it installed locally wouldnt this be preferred?
I have 100/40 NBN and speed tests suggests I am getting the full 100/40 but still find it to be a laggy mess sometimes especially for anything with lots going on (eg Just Cause, and Forza_)

        • Of course it is preferred, but my machine is long in the tooth, basically minimum spec, so I have been tossing up whether to remove it (I know because it is Xbox version you can only use marketplace add-ons but I could probably live with that).

I also have 100/40 FTTP, I don't get lag when going through the Xbox app, but do get graphics glitches often enough in games like Forza. Though for me, I know that is mostly because my PC is on Wifi and near end of range about 10m from AP with high jitter (unfortunately in a rental right now and cannot wire it, will be better when house is finished and it is wired). When I tried it one time on my phone basically next to the AP I had no graphics glitches whatsoever, so maybe check anything else going on on your network, or test your connection for high jitter.

          • @mouse1442000: ipad pro, dedicated 5ghz network, sitting right next to asus modem router, nope :( Though that was in the early days of release, there is a chance they've improved it i guess.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: ah, yeah, they definitely have. In beta, I had all sorts of connection and graphical issues. Since coming out of beta, have not had any such issues except on my PC mentioned above for local reasons. So definitely try again and see if it is improved on your end too.

              • @mouse1442000: When I load in, it still says beta at the initial Xcloud spaceship loading splash…. But yeah will try

Edit ok yeah nah still laggy haha oh well got 2.5 years left of memebership

Guardians was my GOTY for 2021.

One word of advice for anyone playing it first time. Set the difficulty to hard, but then tweak the difficulty setting to reduce enemy health. Makes the combat a lot more fun and challenging, but stops the enemies from being bullet sponges.

  • +6

Game Pass is seriously the best deal in gaming. Love it!

    • +1

Pretty sure the best deal in gaming is the Epic store :)

    • Agree - I went to the XBox environment (courtesy of this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/642119) after being a Sony boy since the original PSX (which still does duty today in the rumpus room) thanks to snagging a Series X and I went with GamePass - being able to sample games is brilliant, especially some of the great indy titles that come up. I think I've only bought Cyberpunk (which is way better after 1.5) and GTA V (more out of force of habit than anything).

Oh, and a decent steering wheel for the various racing games, especially Forza 5.

      • What steering wheel did you end up with?

  • Just as my 3 months of GamePass ends :(

    • +3

Do the Turkish Gamepass thing, I did it last week and got three years of GPU for around $160. Search OzB to find the info

      • That's neat, thanks

    • Get a free month with a Windows activation, may be able to get some free month if you have a work pc without xbox app installed.

      • Yup I got my G14 free one month still waiting

  • damn it i bought on PC so i cannot re-sell!

Wife: "HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU TO MOW THE LAWN?!?!!?!?!?!?!??!!?!"

Husband: "OK OK OK OK" /turns_on_xbox

    xbox: ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED

    • Hah my 4yr old and I play this on xCloud from time to time already… as dumb as it seems, it’s not bad haha.

  • +1

What are square Enix doing? I was gonna buy guardians?!! Their loss lol

    • They aren't giving it away for free lol… We pay sub..M$ pays them (whatever their compensation agreement is)… I also bet this won't be there forever either.. Possibly a way to get it out there for when they release a dlc or a sequel down the track…

      • Not saying they are doing it for free but I highly doubt it’s one of those day one/pay full production deals and my understanding is the game is complete. No dlc.
Anyways given the strong reviews, if they waited till jan next year they would have made an extra $30 off me :p
        Just saying…

        • Oh definitely…I'm sure they would rather it was purchased..but win for game pass owners I guess 🙂

  • +1

Ah yes, so glad I held out on the Guardians of the Galaxy deals!

    • Same, I was tempted so many times but glad I waited!

  • Lawn mowing Simulator was already on GamePass, played it last week.

    • +1

It’s been available on xCloud for a while, and I suspect series S/X… but maybe now adding for xbox One support?

      • Surprisingly enough the link to the deal has some information about the deal, and you're right.

Lawn Mowing Simulator is available right now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and with Xbox Cloud Gaming, and is coming soon to Xbox One consoles! Take a break from the real world and enjoy the challenge and serenity of mowing the Great British countryside in Lawn Mowing Simulator.

KRZ is a beautiful, almost spiritual indie game. It's slow, atmospheric and 10/10 refined visuals.

    • +1

That sounds so awful :) each to their own

    • +2

Agreed. It's clearly not for everyone but I'm really glad this is on Gamepass. There will be a heap of people that will now be exposed to it, and love it, that would have no idea it existed otherwise.

  • -1

I was so close to buying Guardians… Can't wait to play it now
    Gamepass is so damn good.

I've paid up to 2028 using Turkey VPN Ultimate game pass 3month codes

    • +2

      I've paid up to 2028

Thought it was only 3 years max?

      • Thought the same… maybe that’s only when using the gold cards rather than 3month GPU cards?

    • +1

I say BS you are signed up until 2028. Unless you are willing to share how you did it…?

  • Is guardians DLCs worth it?

    • There is no DLC

      • I think I have seen some but have a feeling they are just cosmetics, can they also be unlocked in game?

  • Xbox has been forcing my hands off my PS for weeks now 😅

They keep offering games that is under my radar but would not buy right now. Such as kentucky route zero, death's door and now guardians of the galaxy.

Problem is, we have to play and finished them before they got removed.

    Still love my PS though.

  • Guardians isn't even advertised on the Gamepass store as coming soon, is this 100% Confirmed for AU?

    • +3

It's showing up in the AU store for me now.

  • Wooo! Waited hoping GoG would get added… Awesome!
