$1 Domains from Register.com - COM, NET, ORG, BIZ, INFO and US

NOTE: TRANSFER THE DOMAIN BEFORE THE YEAR IS UP!

You can obtain a $1 domain from Register.COM for a limited time only! This is only valid for new customers for a 1-year period. After the one year period, it renews as the current price. If the current price is too high, transfer the domain to another register within the year.

Remember to remove the add-ons during purchase so it remains ONE DOLLAR.

After you buy, turn off auto-renewal - it's best for you to transfer to another site because the price for the renewal is really high.

  • how early can you transfer a domain? can you buy and transfer straight away?

    • I think it may be 60 days or 3 months.

  • Are they dodgy? Is there any chance of you losing your domain, when they realise you won't renew with them?

    • Probably not. Transfer ASAP because the renew fee is very expensive.

      • +1

I also suggest paying with paypal, and then cancelling the billing agreement once you've had the registration fees withdrawn — that way they don't have your cc number, and they're not approved to auto-withdraw from your paypal :)

        Paypal -> Login -> Profile -> My Money -> Pre-approved payment arrangements -> details -> cancel

        • Yes, and that may give you the maximum use of the 12 months rego, too, eg, for folks who don't need it for a longer period.

    • Any deal that would hit you with any HUGE -unspecified- fees in the future, like this mob seem to be about to do… reminds me of Mafia-like "loan sharks"

"Hey, you owe us lots more… Your interest is 100% per day! Pay up!" (or similar)

It always seems dodgy to me, when I see such "deals" if only because it's like a "trap" for people who don't pull-out early enough.

OTOH, it could be a way for a per cash-strapped new-start to get a domain name & (eg, using one of the FREE [off-shore] hosting services) get a web site up, & start making $$$ - either selling products &/or services… or even via ad's, when folks visit.

But they'd still (from all reports) be paying -lots- more than they'd pay, when .COM or .COM.AU domains are on sale at GoDaddy.com or some Aussie-based registrar, resp.

Domain reg'n should be automatic & cheap… ie, so cheap that nobody ever -considers- doing business under such terms as these guys offer.

      My 2.2 cents… YMMV

  • Thank you, was looking to get a site up for the brother in laws band, cheers :)

  • Is it mandatory to renew your domain after the year is up.?

    • nope

  • Also, what functions does your domain have.? eg. Can you sell stuff and have a Paypal method of payment.? etc…

  • Any free/really cheap aus hosting promos going at the moment ?

  • We were able to turn Off "Auto-Renew" before completion of our order-entry… I hope these guys don't turn it back On at the start of a domain's rego period (ie, while order is being processed)…?

  • they cancelled my domains on me :/ wonder if they're trying to get me to re-register with the same account where the code no longer applies…

they're just about as bad as godaddy…

    • wow! and just now I get an email offering me a chance to buy the domain I already registered and they subsequently cancelled for the super special price of $20!

      what a messed up company.

    • This is what I am afraid of - once they have your domain, they can hold it hostage. You'll be forced to pay whatever they want to get it back.

    • i suspect that is a breach of the registrars' rules. you could complain to icann about the registrar http://reports.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cg…

is the domain available through another registrar?

    • Did you cancel the auto-renewal? Maybe they found out about it, and are doing it to you now as revenge?
