DSE Extension Reel 10meter Phone Cable $3.49

80

Just browsing DSE site for phone cable and saw this.

$3.48 for a 10 meters extension phone cable with Reel seems very cheap but the Reel is not that good. You can always use the cable and use tools to cut it and put the plug you want.

I think they are doing special on phone cables because the price on other cables also cheaper than before.

Also this one $3.48

$1.75 even with ADSL filter but you may have to cut it to put the correct plug.

    What year am I at?

Who still uses long 10m phone wires? I though we all use cordless phones now.

    • +3

I need that to relocate my ADSL router.

I would imagine you'll get a fairly significant loss of sync speed running over 10mt of this cable though..

        • +4

          Why?

The cable that runs into your house is the same kind of cable. Do you know how long that are?

        • +2

telstra's cable is twisted pair. this stuff will be straight wired so it is more susceptible to noise interference. but given that the adsl signal has just come over a couple kms of line, i think it is only going to have a minor effect, if any.

      • Fair enough. I don't use ADSL.

      • -1

The cable running into your house is a lot thicker.

  • Great price but would be even better if it was RJ11.

    • If you have the tools you can cut it and make it yourself. Not that hard.

      • True, could also easily use an adapter which for my purposes would do.

Wow looks like they've opened up the '70's warehouse.
    Go beige.

nice, can use this as measuring tape for outdoor events

They need the ozbargain community to help them clear their warehouse for bigger and better games.

This device allowed me to have internet in my own room. Critically important for those times sans girlfriend.

A Nobel prize please for its inventor.

    • LOL. I had one of these too, and until your comment, I'd completely forgotten about its role in providing me with Internet access in the early dialup days, often to the annoyance of parents/siblings wanting to use the phone.

I used one of these purchased from Dick Smith with a 14.4kbps modem back in 1995.

    • I'll see your 14.4kbps modem, and raise you a 2400bps modem that also did 300/300, 1200/1200 and 1200/75.

      Now I feel old.

      • +1

Shit, my first modem was 300baud max & roughly the same size as a modern standard slimline desktop case! Sucker wasn't cheap either!!! :o

        • +1

Thanks StewBalls, now I don't feel so old anymore.

  • Nice price and retro design… hands up who still has a landline phone? I haven't seen one around my house for many years… may be time to bring the fax machine out.

    • -1

You don't have Internet? May be you use wireless broadband or Cable.

      • I said landline phone… not landline cable.

      • I think he means wired phones.

Perhaps some of the disbelievers of the NBN can use this to come up with a budget alternative?
    (expecting to get flamed now)

    • Really don't know how much longer have to wait for NBN in my area.

    • nah… I'm backing you.. its a good laugh, both the design and the plug! Thanks for Superforever (should rename to Superflower) for making my/our day!

  • can i plug my mobile into this?

Hang on, you may be onto something for vodafone customers.

Oh man that thing is UGLY.

    • Just remove the Reel and take the cable :p

      I agreed it is UGLY.

    • +2

      Reely ugly!

  • hah! that is sooo retro! gonna get one and pass it to my grand kids along with my 2400bps modem :P

  • that thing looks like it belongs to the 60's……
I like the novelty factor for a whole 30 seconds
    and I agree it's UGLY.

Bugger. Out of stock in my closest DS Stores in Adelaide.

This could have been a nice way to extend the reach of my ancient analogue cream dial-phone I recently hooked up to VOIP.

    • +1

"dial-phone I recently hooked up to VOIP"

      That is GOLD!!! LMAO!!

      • +1

Yeah hooked up an ancient phone to VOIP !!!!!

        • There's something to be said for taking several minutes to dial a mobile phone number, and diving across half the house for the phone when it rings.

          Click whirrr…. Click whirrrr…..

  • Bought the $1.75 one with ADSL filter (RJ45 plug & sockets fit RJ45 & RJ12)
note NOT ADSL2+ filter - its much dearer
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/F2435/dse-adsl-extension-ree…
There is a RJ12 10m cable only version for $3.49
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/F2131/digitor-10m-rj12-exten…

  • The connector doesn't look like RJ11, more like what you use in NZ. I hope just a wrong picture.

    • This is a UK one.

Is there a difference between ADSL filter and ADSL2+ filter?

I am still using the DLINK home central filter which I believe is ADSL.

    • The picture is completely wrong.
      As I said above, RJ45 plug & sockets fit both RJ45 & RJ12.
There is no cover over the outlet.
      Was worth the $1.75

  • Funny how DSE selling UK phoney cables.

    • And that is how you get rid of a dupe post ;)
The cables are (surprise) made in China & have 5 year Warranty - probably longer than DS will be around!

    • You are right, that's a British Telecom plug on the end of the lead. BT plugs have a catch on the side, to make them totally incompatible with RJ series connectors. But the "ADSL" socket on the body of the unit appears to be RJ45! Huh?

      • Only in the photo, not the product at DS. Sockets fit several plugs.
