  • is this good?

The specs for the price are very damn good - although see my Q below about keyboard

      • +1

My view is it is good.
Nits could be higher, but it's 17inches, not something to cart around, so not an outdoor laptop.
Upgrade RAM and memory, that's a go.
i7 is not bad for a little longer, maybe 18 months.
Screen with Adobe colour is great.

I bought one, and will sell the 3060 laptop I have. I also have a 3070 laptop, which I will keep, and these will be similar in performance.

        • Out of curiosity, why do you have two laptops?

          • +1

@FireRunner: I'm speaking about myself, and my wife. Also, I have more than 2 laptops, ekkk. But, if a computer has issues, and you work with them, you always need a backup. Like a lawn mowing company has more than 2 mowers.

        • What ram do you recommend it be upgraded to ? Thanks !

        • Bit behind here, but the 3060 may age better with its updated tensor cores, as DLSS models become more capable on its hardware (and adoption rates rise). CPU may even drag down the 2080 Super enough to make it close to even today, and that's without knowing the configuration for each GPU and thermal performance.

The greatest separator may be the panels, and this does have a properly speedy 300Hz IPS panel, but keep in mind it's still really just elite 240Hz in terms of visual performance despite some nice peak response times.

          • @jasswolf: It may age better, if it is being gamed on. But even still, Razer with a 3060 is over 2k. I think the 2080S will be fine for a little while, but I just use my GPUs for a little eth mining at night, and video editing with premiere pro during the day.
            No time for gaming.

            • @Bargain Seeker: Putting aside that cryptocurrency is the absolute devil, ETH is ridiculously difficult to mine now, and that's before you factor in energy costs.

You might want to run a calculator on that, and consider the environment alongside any (near-zero) financial gain.

Would this have the Korean keyboard if it has Korean packaging?

    • I take it to mean, the box is in Korean, instructions in Korean, etc. If it was a Korean keyboard, it would say so.
This is normal keyboard as far as I can tell. Centrecom would not leave out that info.

    • +3

It must be Korean stock not aussie stock, will it be a pain on warranty claim? As Razer is famous for bloat batteries …

    • This would have the Korean Keyboard.

See below for a link to a replacement keyboard for "RZ09-03295K42-R3K1" (the sku quoted on centercom) which indicates a Korean layout.

There is no difference between Korean vs US Keyboard layout except Korean letters engraved on keys

  • +2

2 generations old and finally reduced. Nice!

    • +2

Very very true. Can't believe they didn't try to reduce by a little, like $500 a few months ago.

  • What the Korean Packaging mean?

    • +1

I take it to mean, the box is in Korean, instructions in Korean, etc. If it was a Korean keyboard, it would say so.
This is normal keyboard as far as I can tell. Centrecom would not leave out that info.

      • If it is Korean Keyboard which gonna kill the deal.

    • +2

      Free Kimchi flavor inside

    • +1

      dunno. Can't read Korean

  • How does this compare to a 3060 laptop ?

  • -2

I think this was a better deal.
    5800H + 3050 Ti for $1200

    • did you buy it?…… hp is lower quality

      • Yeah, its 2.46 kg so a little heavier.
Razer has smaller form factor but you are paying extra $500 for it.

        • so the HP is good?

          • @ilove: Yes, no issue, save $500.
This Razer one is 10th gen, which is quite old now.

            • +2

@congo: The 2080S MaxQ will destroy the 3050 Ti though

              • @FireRunner: I mainly play old games like StarCraft, so 3050Ti is fine :-)

It is strange that to 2080 out performs newer models 3050.

                • @congo: The 2080 is the flagship GPU of its generation while the 3050 Ti is a budget end GPU of the next generation. Technology doesn’t move so fast that the budget option can outperform the top end of the previous generation

    • +1

I think that was a good deal for what it was/is.
HP is not reputable these days. The GPU is just a 4Gb model, so not the best, and a 2080S is better than a 3060.

The HP was a great deal, but just not a worthwhile laptop to buy.
This Razor can be upgraded quite nicely, and has a very color accurate screen.
Also being more plasticy, is not as nice.

  • OOS

    • of coz, no matter what still lots of Razer diehard fans, even it is 2 gens old laptop

      • I didnt even get a chance to buy, then it goes oos ;(

  • Is rtx2080 prev gen ?

  • Woah I missed it!! I could've used Korean keyboard for my bts

  • FHD screen with 17" wouldn't be ideal for browsing/work due to low pixel count. However, it would likely make a good gaming machine.

  • Damn good deal. Good find

  • +1

    It arrived today.

    It is one magnificent beast.

The 300Hz panel is so ridiculously over-the-top. I love it.

Never been a fan of the Razer flashy gamer green aesthetic but the price was too good to turn down, even for an old 2020 model. I will probably get a dbrand skin to cover up the logo on the lid though.

Edit: the Korean packaging meant the keyboard had some Korean on the keycaps, but the RGB only lights up the English lettering. The detachable cord on the power supply was also a Korean two-prong plug, but I had a spare Aussie cord that I could plug into the power supply instead. So all good.

Thank you to the OP @BargainSeeker.

    • Thanks for your sharing

    • Yeah great. Mine arrived today, I live more regional I guess. I didn't mind the Korean letters, it was minor.
Keen to hear what brand skin you use
