75" Sony XR90J (Seconds) listed on the Sony Ebay store for $2499 - $2399 with eBay Plus.

There are 58 of these available so I am thinking they are not seconds, but Sony selling out their current stock before new model releases. (Do not quote me)

The long awaited Variable Refresh Rate firmware update for HDMI 2.1 also happened to drop today :)

It's not just eBay plus. I don't have it and used PLSMAR5 to make it $2399 delivered

  • Be aware, the deal title on ebay specifically says "Seconds"

Yes. With new models imminent for 2022 Sony might be clearing all the returned and repaired stock, and also returned due to damage such as dents. Sony only cover the operational side of the tv. You have to accept the aesthetic side. I think it’s lucky dip. You would want to thoroughly test these.

Been watching this since it was cheaper last week ($2276) here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/686406.

Few buyer stories in that thread. Unfortunately its a bit too much risk for me to assume its just old stock, as the last ones were clearly not. Keen to hear peoples experiences though.

Nothing good, just the usual massive waste of time attempt to deny consumer rights by not taking back the garbage they're selling.

      • It seems that way, the comments of others scared me off until people report back more. Refurbished should be checked properly, not sending out items with missing parts, or obvious damage (aside from minor scratches in non screen areas). If thats happening at all then it points to a serious issue with the QC. Would love to hear some positive stories so I can bite the bullet :)

I got one delivered yesterday (purchased from the previous price), was also worried after all the stories came up, may have gotten lucky mine appears brand new as far as I can tell

    • So did it look like the remote has been used? If you get into the service menu you can see how many hours the lcd panel has been used for. That’s the real sign of how worn the TV is.

      To get to it.

      With tv off. Press

      Display then
      5 then
      Volume up then
      Power

      That brings up the menu.

When finished just turn off the TV.

OK did this, have 17hrs on it so far which actually should be pretty accurate for the usage I've put on it so far, so at very least not a display model etc and if it has been used before maybe had an immediate fault to be fixed like a busted mainboard. Remote and everything was brand new in sealed packaging.
Still have the plastic around the edges etc so cant really check it that fully (that is staying until I finish wall mounting it).

        • Oh wow. Yes definitely not a used model.

  • It seems by joining eBay plus the discount i received was $124 . Why was this? I only expected $100.
Also Sony advised that eBay plus tv are sent priority freight so that’s a bonus.

    • Let us know when it arrives if it is brand new :)

  • It’s even cheaper today. Now 10 per cent off with eBay plus. My order is shipped so I was not able to cancel but even better deal today.

    • Yep either that or save another $450 with the previous gen X9000H @ $1799.10.

  • I ordered this TV on Monday, looking forward to unboxing! Note in the tracking says Returns accepted through 20th April so that's reassuring for a so-called refurb.

    • Yes. I checked the advert. The buyer pays the return postage so it might be costly to return. Sony will provide on site repairs for if the tv does not work. If you change your mind I think you are up for the freight. Not sure if you have eBay plus if that will cover the return cost.

  • Gave in on this one too. Mine definitely is not new (sorry to burst anyones bubble), I can tell immediately as remote batteries not sealed, some scratches from use on remote too. Also some cat ? hairs in box as a dead give away, given I have no cat/dogs. Haven't lifted it out of box yet as need a bit of help for that, but only seems to be bagged (no plastic on trim like Revhed etc). Hoping its atleast in good nick and working.

And we just and unboxed it and its clearly faulty (could see it the second it turned on). Massive uneven patches as if the screens been pushed real hard (having had an old Toshiba laptop where the mouse pointer constantly pushed into the screen over time, some might know the exact effect I am talking about).

Oh dear, should have gone with my instinct on this and run away. Now to see how difficult the return process is!

Venting — Shame on Sony for not checking the stock/repairs before sending out — this matches other threads and experiences. I will report back after I 'talk' with their support team, I hope I don't have to file an ebay/paypal dispute like some others have.

      • I ordered one of these on the 14th. Still waiting for the delivery and the DHL web site states it has been collected but that's all. Was due to arrive Monday. When I queried the condition of the refurbs I was told cosmetic scratches but functionally ok. If the TV has a full SONY Warranty I would have thought that SONY would provide an on site tech to diagnose and fix rather than returning the TV. I look forward to hearing what your outcome is, as I can't be without a TV if this new one fails. I think I might hold off giving away my old one to be honest till I am happy with the new one.

        • Definitely do not give away your old one. It appears they are not going to provide onsite support (atleast based on the discussions) and so far I am pretty unimpressed they are not honoring the return process they clearly advertise.

I am really unhappy they sent me a faulty TV - want to execute my right to return. Seems they won't do that (yet).

Fingers crossed its just rushed / poor support from the tech team. As initially they were very polite; they seem supportive but to receive the kindof wasting time responses when I have sent them photos is really frustrating to me.

          • @XPunK: Well just to summarise my first day of return process —- their call centre seem to hang up mid call at the 6pm cut-off. This sux as I can't call back due to the IVR not directing the calls (ie. sorry we are closed).

I am getting very interested in something though - only the initial interaction (case creation) triggered a survey/questionaire of how they are doing/what was my rating. I initially thought great! as they were super polite during that call. All these follow-ups where I need to chase why they haven't followed-up & the issues in support are occuring do not trigger any survey for the interactions.

Wonder if their call centre decides when/who to survey ? I really hope not. Would be fascinated if anyone else who has gone through support has noticed this.

Mine is being delivered today, will report back once it's delivered and unboxed. Fingers crossed but sorry to hear of your bad experience.

      • +1

Ok reporting back, my unit appears brand new without any marks or damaged pixels. Very happy so far!

        • +1

Of this is great to hear. I do hope my unit is like this too.

      • +1

So far the return experience is very poor - they did not follow-up as they promised and appear based on me chasing them making me go through hoops to show the TV is faulty to them despite it clearly being faulty (with photos they don't seem to have checked).

I am really unhappy. While they are polite I expect them to quickly admit that they sent me a unrepaired TV (admit they made a mistake) rather than tell me its my setup and try to tell me I don't know what I am doing so lets just work it through. Clearly a script - but when its such an obvious fault, come on!

  • After all this time my unit was ready to be delivered tomorrow. DHL contacted me to say that when Sony loaded the tv on the docking pallets they skewered the box and damaged the panel so my TV is now going back. As it’s a refurb I am thinking they might just refund me as they don’t have stock of the refurbs now. I purchased on March 12 so quite a long time ago.

    • Damn, bad luck mate

  • EBay stepped in today and arranged a refund as there has been no response from Sony in two weeks. It seems I am not important to them and so left with no tv and having paid for one. Overall a very disappointing Sony experience which dragged on for five weeks.
