    • It all depends on the whims of eBay, Afterpay and merchants. I’m pretty optimistic that you’ll find a deal on electronics though.

    Do you mean March?

    Jack is on the wayyyy!

    • +4

No sensible ozbargainers should expect bargains across the board.

I am sure there will still be quite a few great deals popping up and spotted by the community, and that’s what this website is all about.

    • +2

I dont think afterpay checks credits? but latitude does I heard

      • +1

Ah sorry. It was ZipPay that appeared on my Equifax credit check.

      • After pay website says they do a "soft check"

For anyone who doesn’t have Afterpay account yet, Afterpay might do their referral program again from tomorrow: https://www.afterpay.com/en-AU/refer-terms

    • Worth posting as a deal, if it’s allowed.

    • So how do you refer a friend? I tried to google it but still no clues.

Haven't seen Jack around lately. I guess he has been priming himself to get ready for March!

  • no jack please

  • +10

Sigh, been avoiding afterpay for ages but it might finally be time to bite the bullet and open an account. No issues with credit history or paying back on time or anything, just against the predatory practices and concept of afterpay. But there have been so many good deals posted over the past few years for afterpay customers that i May as well jump on the bandwagon. Was kinda hoping it would die (by being subjected to same or similar lending practices and codes as banks).

    • +2

      Don't do it

    • +13

Use them to save you money on their behalf. Easy as. Pay it all back on time and give them nothing.

    • +13

If you have a budget that you can afford, then go for it, if you know you can make the payments then you're getting 6 weeks interest free which is better than what some CC offer.
You need to make the 1st payment on purchase and you will be subject to a small purchase to start off with.
I have used AP for over 3 years now and I can tell you I have never missed 1 payment.
I make a budget, I adhere to that budget and I make sure all my AP payments are honored.
Given my consistent missed payment free record, I have been given a reward of not having to pay the 1st payment on purchase day but 2 weeks later.
Use it to your advantage as long as you know the pitfalls, this is 100% better than lining the pockets of the mega banks that are always profiting off the backs of the unsuspecting.
If you know how to budget and know all the pitfalls, don't abuse payment systems then you should have no issue using a system like this or any other similar service.
I have 3 payment providers, they all offer different services but the best part is they offer discount to retailers which is a bonus incentive to use their services.
I can't tell you how much I have saved using these bonus perks, they don't happen all the time but 15% off AP day is what I would be looking into for another purchase in next few days.

This is OzBargains after all, looking for bargains and knowing how to use anything to your advantage is what OB is all abt imo.

    • +1

Why is it predatory? I don't see any fee charged to you as for 6 weeks interest free as opposed to credit card.

I think as long as you pay everything on time, a financial product could just benefits anyone.. if used correctly with discipline

      • +5

because it preys on people who are not financially savvy. You can say tough luck, but predatory lending can lead to social problems in which case its better to have sensible laws to stop people getting into trouble before taxpayers are footing the bill for a custodial sentence.

        • +1

Less predatory than a Credit Card IMHO.

    • +1

Also don't want to open afterpay account, what is the min amount to use?

Can I pay in full afterward immediately?

      • +1

Yeah you just log into your account and you can pay off all the instalments straight away. Takes 2 seconds, no biggie.

        • Thanks, what is the min amount I can use with afterpay? As I understand I can combine gift cards with afterpay.

          • @superforever: You'll have to try your luck. I think as long as some amount is AP you should be fine. I just got the airpods and did it with a $30 ebay gift card.

        • Just be careful paying off straight away as they can flag this as "suspicious activity" and lock your account until you call and re-verify. Only just an inconvenience, but just something to be aware of if you are wanting to make a couple of transactions.

          • @AquaDigger: Maybe this is right. First time afterpay user, I bought AirPods 3 this morning, paid straight away and thought I won’t use the service again. Then wanted to buy Apple TV with afterpay and I kept getting an error message from afterpay saying I cannot proceed with the payment.

            • @Unacceptable: Yea happened to me when I signed up too. A quick call fixed it which was good.

    • +1

If you have an account, only use these discounts but pay off the account promptly then they are losing money on you aren't you? That is one way to show your disdain.

  • +3

Is @Gearbite ever gonna get the Xiaomi G10s back in stock??

    • yeh! cmon gearbite!

  • -3

Not all that keen on any buy now pay later company. Steer clear, especially if you rely on these services. You'll end up far worse off for missed payments. It only works for some. They're a bunch of vultures.

    • +17

No what the issue is that people who miss payments are going to abuse any form of payments so calling these companies "vultures" seems to be misleading, specifically when banks have been doing this all along.
Maybe you should go back to the days of lending merchants like Cash Convertors doing loans on personal items or anything else, making weekly payments only to lose their possessions for missed payments?

      • You're right Tommy. As you say:

If a lot of people love each other, the world would be a better place to live.

        Peace.

      • Thanks for the reply. Is this offer without the contract? I dont want to lock in a provider.

        • +1

  • +1

So I just bought myself a new camera lens used off ebay, would this afterpay deal work? Is there anything I can do to save money on my order? Coupon codes, gift cards, cash back, anything at all is better than nothing :)

    • Only certain sellers take Afterpay.

  • +1

Hoping for a deal on apple watch 7.

  • hope there'll be mbp m1 deals

  • prices already jacked to be different to title xD

  • Questions:

If my afterpay limit is low ($300). Can I still purchase higher value ($800) item from eBay? And how does it work?

If I would like to pay them all for Afterpay instead of separate payment, is it possible?

    • +2

you don't want to pay 99% of it with ebay gc which you can buy with discount and the remaining with afterpay?

      • Is there a way to specify how much of thebgc you want to use? Ie. I have $50gc, item is $30, how to choose to pay $29 using GC and $1 via after pay?

        • Not possible as far as I know. You can’t allocate GC funds to specific items in your shopping cart. It’s just used against the total only.

        • only way i can think of is to spend the $1 on another order first

      • I just did that.
My AP limit $600 was too low for my purchase price.
Bought Ebay GC with 3% on Shopback - redeemed in minutes :)

Too bad I did only about 60% and not 99% :) - but wasnt sure if all GCs would have been honoured.

  • +1

Excuse my ignorance, but I can’t figure out how you get $194.65 for Airpods 3 since they are $278 currently?

    • +2

Your ignorance is excused. I’d imagine that tomorrow the price will be reduced by $49 to $229, then 15% off that. But that’s assuming I’m not ignorant, which would be a big call

      • +3

Ah, I see! Thought it may be something along those lines but couldn’t find any details.

Let the Battle of Ignorance, begin!

        Cheers :)

  • Gon git me some hard drives finally.

  • Might be a silly question but is this a one time use code or can you buy as many items with the 15% off using the afterpay code/deal?

    • +1

5 transactions total (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction)

      • +1

Ebay won't let me pay for more than one item in a transaction (all from different sellers). Works if i buy individually.

  • Airpods Max? on sale?

  • My daughter just wants the AIRPODS 2nd generation. She lost the right pod :( Does anhyone know if 2nd gen will be part of this deal please?

    • No idea, sorry, but you probably already are aware that Apple will replace the lost AirPod for $109?

      • yes, i do, but, if i could get a new set on sale for a little more, then, i just thought, why not …. thanks for your reply. Will keep an eye out tomorrow at sale
