Woah! Never heard of it before! Thanks OP for pointing it out! Great site!

  • -6

    I got $239.99

    • $239.99? That's a great price … Where did you get it from? Thanks

    • +3

The one for 239.99 is from Circuit City and can't be shipped to Australia. Could use a forwarding service but that'd probably eat the savings up making it pointless.

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W2JL2A/ref=ox_sc_act_ti…

      • -2

Forwarding service? Wouldn't that cost you more??

        • +5

Yes, that is why he said it would be pointless.

  • +2

Grr, wish they would ship the 128Gb again.

  • +2

    wow
got it for $340 a few months ago, and thought that that was a good price haha

keep posting them btw, I know a lot of people who are still keen on them

  • +1

Amazon price is now 248.99, jumping all over the place.

    • Just a guess but are they price matching with Circuit City?

  • Just purchased :)

  • +3

$243 including shipping with 28 degrees..

  • It tells me:
We are not able to ship this item to your default shipping address.

Has it just changed - If you click on the item, do you see the same message?

    • Nope, have taken it all the way to the "select shipping speed" in the checkout process. All good for australian addresses.

    • +1

Could be you're trying to send it to a PO Box?

      • Yep - you solved it. Thanks!

  • +3

Just updated the post, it is now USD $255.63 shipped, i.e. below $1/GB :) I have no problem ordering it with my St. George VISA but did not proceed since I just bought an Intel 520 a few weeks ago…

    • how much did you purchased the Intel 520 for?

      • 120GB ~$179 from an Australia retailer because I pretty much needed straight away to fix my laptop.

        • Hey Scotty, How did you find the HDD?
Are they more reliable than the crucial?

        • +1

I have never used the Crucial either so cannot comment on that. This is for a business machine and i really want to minimise the down time so i went with Intel hoping that it might be more stable.

    • Wow! Thanks Scotty. I just cancelled my order and reordered one without problem. $1/GB it is!

  • +3

Seriously… Just ordered mine like 3 days ago for like 290 something! Bugger.

    • Talk to them, they might refund the difference.

      • -8

Don't be greedy, reason why Amazon is excluding more ssds from Austalia is because of people like you asking for refunds. You agreed to 290, be a man and stick to your words.

        • +20

"be a man and stick to your words"?? They're not duelling at dawn you know.

        • +12

Soz I have to neg you. Bought mine last week, just talked to Amazon ('live chat') and they are refunding me the difference of $37.17.

Be a true ozbargainer and live the spirit!

        • +5

Its pretty much an unwritten policy for Amazon, they will refund the difference if the price dropa before item is shipped, and sometimes after its shipped.

They have such a policy because in the US, its 30 days no questions asked returns. So in order to ensure the customer dont just place a new order and return the more expensice order. They just change the price to suit, it makes their jobs easier due to prime and fsss, and the customers happier at the same time.

        • +6

Much to my delight and probably Cutebirdy4's dismay, Amazon are refunding me $40 =)

        • +1

I'm sure US residents in the same situation are doing exactly the same thing; so I don't think it makes the slightest bit of difference with regard to international shipping exclusions! ;)

      • +1

        got my refund. thanks

        • Same here, ordered the 128gb for 155, the price went down to 125 (despite not being availble to be shipped to Australia anymore), got a refund of $30!!
Amazon is actually a pretty good company.

      • +1

        Didn't work for me.

"I'm sure it's disappointing to see the lower price on the item you recently purchased. Our prices regularly change, and the price you paid when your order shipped was the lowest price we were able to offer at the time.
I recognize you have a choice of retailers and appreciate that you prefer to order from us. Unfortunately, I'm sorry, we do not have a post-order price guarantee.
If you prefer, you can return the item back to us for a refund and re-order for it."

        • Sorry, bad luck but.

Have they shipped yet? Amazon has a three stage order processing. When you first place the order, they will not charge your card, and you can easily cancel. Depending on the product and shipping speed, it might takes hours to days before your order is actually being processed. Once this happens your card is charged, you can still try to cancel at this time via the order status page (I have a 50/50 success rate at this stage). However, once its shipped your only option is to return the product.

Which stage are you at? Can you still cancel and reorder?

        • Yeah I've already received mine.

        • I think it depends on how long ago you ordered. I ordered mine only a few days before the price drop and is still in transit.

My service rep said that exact same paragraph, but then said in this case she'd make an exception.

  • Any idea on warranty? Would you have to ship it back to the US or could it be repaired/replaced here?

    • Every hard drive I've ever had to get replaced (1x Western Digital, 3x Seagate) have needed to be posted overseas (and have all been purchased in oz).

  • I realise there have been many Amazon Crucial posts, but this is truly a massive price drop

  • i'd rather pay extra for an Intel SSD because it has a lower failure rate.

    • Negligible difference, and the newer Intel's failure rate remains to be seen (although they seem okay so far).

      • The Intel 520's have a 5 year warranty, no? How long is the warranty on these M4's?

        • -1

Crucial's 3 years, like Adamiam said, "negligible difference"… err, hold on.
Doesn't Flash memory have limited write-cycles? Don't that mean they wear out with use? Err, don't that mean you'd want the longest warranty? Don't that mean offered 5 year warranty implies manufacturer's confidence of a statistically more reliable SSD? Yeah, right, "negligible difference."

        • +3

I'm pretty sure that you can't claim warranty because the product is wearing out as expected. They're talking about failure rate and expected wear isn't a factor in that if they all wear out with use. I see no problem with Crucial.

  • A question for those that have already purchased these from Amazon. The delivery time was 10-22 business days for the Expedited shipping. What was your experience with delivery time?

Also, are these delivered by Australia Post? If so, I should be able to have it redirected to a new property if I have moved between the ordering date and delivery date.

    • From memory, delivery was about 10 days, and it came by iParcel who then give it to Australia post for delivery.. I think.

  • I ordered mine in mid Jan and it took 8 days from ordering to arriving in Melb. It was left at the door as I was not home.

    • So it doesn't have to be signed for? That's a problem.

      • Mine was left in my letterbox.

        • Does Amazon provide a tracking number to estimate when it will be delivered, so you can be home to receive it? Not the kind of thing I want left on my doormat for passers by to pick up..

        • +1

^ To answer my own questions, they only provide a signature request at delivery for orders over $1300. Otherwise you better hope you're home.

    • I ordered mine a few weeks ago for two $295 and it only arrived the other day and was just a empty box!
The main parcel box was not sticky tape or sealed in any way, you could just open the cardboard flaps from either side easily.

I used standard postage I think the trick is to Always always use express quality postage

  • -1

    oh lOL.

  • anyone know if the linked SDD comes with the bracket ?

    • +1

Check if you need the bracket first - many PC cases actually have screw holes for SSD's.
This SSD didn't come with a bracket.

      • +1

        Are all SSD's 2.5"?
Out of curiosity, because it sounds like some people are trying to use this with a desktop?

        • Nah, you can get 3.5" ones…dunno why you'd bother though, a 2.5" is more flexible as you have the potential to use it in either desktop or lappy! There's always gaffer-tape if you don't have a bay/holes & don't wanna pony up for a bracket! ;)

        • +1

Or you can just let all the SSD's hang randomly in the case like I do :P (combination of laziness and shortage of bays)

  • yeah, wow, thats a great price,… ever at $300 was good but this is awsome…

good to see them coming down,.. the intel 520 wend from $229 to $189 so i think more competition means more price drops as more players come on board and production gets ramped up.

Having said all that, this is a really quality drive,.. BUT im just inlove with the intel 520's for quality, and trust them to run my OS more than any other brand,, iv had one since the original 80gb x-25m so i would pay the premium for them.. if the 240GB 520 comes down to $300 id get 2 of them and raid them. And perhaps use 2 of these for secondary drivers,.. but untill that happens ill stick to my revoDriver 3 & intel 520 120gb ;-)

  • +4

yay I finally found something to spend my $10 gift card on. :D

  • +1

ordered one, great price, even though i only need the 120gb,

  • Snagged one I said when they reached a dollar a gig… Just need the 3Gb 7200RPM drives to drop now

    • +1

      3GB? :|

      • Obviously he means TB..

    • You can get 3tb Hitachi's for 160.10 currently, and 4tb Hitachi/Seagate for 240.10 atm, not too bad $ per GB

      • I wish I knew where so cheap. Bought the external 3tb for $175 a few days ago.

  • I'm hanging for a 500gb~ ssd… Anyone have any good cheap links to those?

I'd buy one at the price that amazon are asking for the 512gb models are asking, but they don't seem to ship to Aus.

    • +1

They did ship for a short while to Australia, though not any more - someone else on here suggested it was they may have gotten too many warranty claims for the 512gb and was costing them too much.

  • Anyone know how to tell if a payments been paid to Amazon from the order page? I don't know if the payments gone through to them.

  • What the shipping like? It said between 10-23rd May..
Hoping it wont take that long..

    • Someone above said it took 8 days the last time they ordered…

      • lol, I got 30-May to 6-June

  • 256gb for $256 is very tempting. Would it be possible to shift say 150gb of my 600gb steam folder to the ssd? I believe Valve makes it hard to allocate different games to different hard drives. I would definitely jump to 256gb if I could load certain games from the ssd and others from the mechanical hdd ( and then shift them back to my 2gb drive when finished playing). Anyone doing this?

    • There is an app to do that.. but I don't have the name for it or use it. Would be tempted though with an SSD like this

  • Awesome price, I got mine for $300 a few months back. What I like to see lowering prices on SSDs

  • I'm sooooo tempted, what a great price per gb,I don't need more than 60gb though,
Should I wait til 64Gb drop to $1/gb? Or should I just jump the wagon, quite a saving if I go with 60gb cos I don't need the extra space anyway.

I need someone to persuade me !!!

    • You will be able to find a quality 60GB or so SSD far below $250 with local warranty in Australia now.

  • +1

I bought the 128Gb model a few mths ago when it was on OzB.
I still have about 2/3 free - OS and applications on SSD, Data/My Documents on a mechanical drive.
Boots up in half the time and thats only with SATA II - highly recommend a SSD.
Next upgrade though will require new CPU/Mobo/DDR3 memory

  • This is very tempting…
Have never bought an SSD because I think they have been too expensive. Now with $1/GB, it seems more reasonable. What I wanna ask is for someone who doesn't play games, should 256 GB be more than plenty ?
OS/progs/My Documents what else on SSD?

    • it depends how much 'what else' you have.

  • Porn stays on HDD. I was asking "what else" can I store on SSD, for someone who doesn't play any games ?

    • TBH, 64-128gb is enough for most people who aren't heavy gamers. OS & frequently used apps, not much more needs to be on your SSD to derive maximum benefit! :)

This is a great price though, nearly a full hundred cheaper than local; I was trying to think of a reason to buy one, but I'm coming up nah! ;)

    • I've got a 100GB Patriot Inferno at the moment and that is ~2/3rds full just from windows and application installs. All my games are installed to a separate drive and data stored on an external 2TB. I want to consolidate drives, so I grabbed one of these 256GB's as <$1/GB is hard to beat. I will now be able to install all of my games, including a small Steam library without fear of running out of space. Can't see a downside, to be honest.

    • Basically put anything on there that you want to load 'fast'. Eg. Windows, Office, Photoshop - they all benefit from an SSD.

I currently have a 60gb drive and it's really only filled up because I installed SC2. Now upgrading because I can't even fit the Diablo 3 beta on there - that alone took around 13 gig I think.

  • Hey guys, I have never bought any stuff from Amazon. I am really looking forward to buy this from them but I would like to confirm their reliability and also their refund procedure just in case of DOA. Also, I read that no signature required for order <$1300. Isnt that a bit risky?

    Cheers.

    • +1

I bought a crucial M4 512Gb SSD in early March. It worked for less than 30 minutes before dying. Amazon were happy to refund the purchase price, postage, and gave US$15 for postage of the item back to the USA. Can't ask for more than that.

I used express postage so a signature was required, and the drive took just three working days to arrive.

  • Hey guys,

Do you think they will get any cheaper?
I have a 120Gb SSD, but I need something with more space soon.

Just seeing if I should wait a bit longer, or it this as low as it will get for a while?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Cheers,

    • If you don't know, this huge drop in price is due to Crucial lowering the price of the SSD.
You can see the same price at all US retailers.

  • Hi, Im wondering how much you guys got charged in your actual bank account.

    • Whatever the price was, plus a few dollars for the overseas CC purchase, then Amazon has a $1 pending charge to see if the CC was stolen or whatever, which gets refunded back to you soon. Why do you ask?

    • +1

Get a 28 degree Mastercard and you would never have to worry about that again.

  • Ordered due to my laptop drive failure over the weekend, so 248.99 for the drive, 19.31 for the walking dead book 1 and 39.54 for Priority shipping. Total of 307.84 with 2-5 days postage. Converted via my bank to AUD total came to 297.40, happy with that.

  • Got one for AU$254.82.

  • Is this still being shipped to australia? i have tried multiple combinations but it still says:

" We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order. "

I have asked for an amazon customer service rep and his reply was basically:

"The item that is in your cart now is shipped and sold by a seller called : DataVision Computer Video
Sellers have their own policies towards shipping.
Most of the times they do not ship outside the US.

Amazon fulfilled items cannot be shipped outside the US because of manufacturer warranties.
If this is the case then a message will appear like below:
We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order.
If this message appears that item cannot be shipped outside the States.
    We apologize again."

I believe my address is entered wrong if everyone here is able to order…

    • PO box address by any chance, as pointed out by foobar above?

      • Have checked that, but no its not a PO box, i have tried with my work address and my home….still trying to figure out, a bit odd my colleague inputted my details and was able to check out fine….(the same exact details)…

        argh!
