    C'mon $450
    .

    • damn i've waited this price and sold out before I catch it.

  • this is my face after buying https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/686953 16TB :-(

  • can you put this into a NAS?

    • yes, but need to shuck

  • If it is full around 16 tb, does the read/write speed reduces ?

    • +1

Yes, it's constant angular velocity, not linear velocity.

    • The fuller it gets the slower the transfer rate is.

  • Suitable to use with mac as external drive ?

    • +1

Yes, click on the link to confirm.

    • SSD/HDD are SSD/HDD, no difference between Mac & PC. Most drives come preformatted as exfat now which works on both PC & Mac but if it comes as an NTFS drive and can't be used on your Mac you just have to open Disk Utility and reformat it as HFS/APFS/exfat depending on what you want.

Just a warning guys I got the 16tbs delivered today and the box was banged around so bad the seal broke on the tape.

There is a group buy of actual HDDs with better warranty and proper shipping protection in the works for the ozB community, look it up in my comments, this is a good price but I don’t trust amazons shipping.

Now I have to go through a big headache to send them back.

    • Yep. Be extra cautious when buying these drives from Amazon UK or Amazon US. Bought a WD Elements 18TB from last Amazon UK deal. I received a faulty driver and guess what: 3 "LPN" labels on the box, which suggests item has been returned not once, but a few times. Apparently Amazon UK might conveniently put returned items back into circulation to be resold as brand new. Packed in paper bag, not padded bag, not carton.

      does it work though?

      • In my case I'm not willing to risk it, it may work, pass a sector test even and I'm sure I could be corrected but to me, it may affect the lifespan.

So I rather just have a HDD that has not been bounced around (literally) and I don't think it's too much to ask for some bubble wrap that would probably cost amazon less than 5cents for an almost 1,000 order.

        • Yeah it's crazy that they still do this. I'm nervously awaiting my 16TB.
Will they accept a return on the basis that it wasn't packed properly though, even if it may work?

          • @fredblogs: I think if your prime theres a 30 day return window anyway but I will be complaining either way, its just mind boggling they don’t add any protective packaging.

The trick is meant to be to order 2 or more so they are more tightly packed but in my case this meant that the box they posted it in was the exact width but about 15cm longer than the WD boxes, so the boxes corners got caved in and the outer amazon box was concave to the point their amazon tape split open.
