  • I have NFI whether to HODL or not anymore. These afterpay sales have thrown me for a loop

Same, the asus rog strix card in the description is reallly tempting. But these are newly added to ebay so the companies are pricing and listing accordingly with the afterpay sale most likely. Further tricking us into thinking its such a good 'deal' but who knows maybe im overthinking it. Can't read the future so who knows we're these cards will sit in another week or so.

    • I'm waiting for Starfield

The fact you're asking yourself this Q means you're FOMOing, you either buy or don't but don't sit on the fence when you know another deal like this will be well off.
Show me where any sale like 15% off without having to use eBay PUS or having $ jacked up to appear an incentive to the buyer but just makes more $ for the seller.
The AP discount is independent of eBay, AP are subsidizing the discount. eBay don't care as they get paid the same, but I can guarantee you, you wont see another discount like this applied over so many GPUs for a long time. Is it worth the risk and waiting longer? or do you want something you can enjoy now and possibly flip later on when and if the 4XXX series is made available?

      • Thank you for explaining my own thoughts, decisions, and choices to me.

Yeah not a problem because 1st world problems make me want to buy a GPU/not buy a GPU then whine abt it on a forum.

@[Deactivated]: No whining here, pull your head in.

@NedStark102: Oh noes, I don't noes what to do, oh golly gosh waaah

    • Real inflation for goods & services has been on average around ~25% cumulatively over the past decade. For GPUs, it's been about -30%, using performance as a measure. This reflects the innovation I guess.

In 2018, which was 2 years after release, GTX 1080 could be had for around $670 on sale. So $540 for the RTX 3060, which is comparable to it, is about as good it gets IMO. GTX 1080 Ti was $900 2 years after release, which is comparable to RTX 3060 Ti. RTX 3060 Ti available now for $680.

Look at how flagship phone prices have gone up over time. High prices are probably the new normal. We see prices have gone up 25% in the past year or two, but this isn't that much over 10 years, so the inflation we fear might actually be yet to come.

    • Personally I'm looking at it from a purely practical perspective. I'm really enjoying getting a pile of indie games currently - factorio in particular - so while my super venerable 970 desperately needs to go to silicon heaven…I simply don't have a need for a new GPU. There are a few new releases coming out in July (I think) that I'm interested in, so will look at a new GPU then.

Just how I'm handling this train wreck roller-coaster =P

Usually im against paying the "asus tax" for GPU's as its usually 15-20% more. But $60 more for the TUF https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265573507901 is worth it for a much better cooler imo.

  • Worth changing from my 6700XT to a 3070Ti?

    • If you do editing, 100%. For gaming, I think it could be more of a x grade.

    • Personally I wouldn't. You can definitely hold out until 4000 series at the very least with your current card!

      • Well it might cost me like $50 for the change and thinking that it might be a little better (like 1%) but it does have DLSS. I don't play much but if I do its like Warzone with friends.

        • just keep in mind you might not get as much as you expected selling 2nd hand GPU's right now. Market is pretty weird at the moment with all this discounting.

          • @bert-lifts: I have a buyer lined up :D now just in 2 minds if its worth changing because I have to then wait for the new GPU.

            • +1

@RenVilo: If the buyer is a friend, don't burn him so no, it's not worth the change.
They will eventually find out and things could turn sour.
Content creation is far better on nVidia though.

  • HODL until they are free!111

That's when Ned will buy one.
