Sounds like decent specs for the price

  • This is the one with the tiny battery (but additional 2.5" slot) and the thermals/noise werent great but price is getting down the old bargain Acer Nitro's from previous

    • +2

It's a two year old CPU as well. The Acer had 11th gen from memory.

      • +1

Depends which acer, there were 10th and 11th gen bargains

    • +4

I think it's better value then the Acer Nitro which had 8GB and the i5-10300H for $1098. For $50 more you get 16GB and an i5-10500H (6C/12T CPU instead of 4C/6T)

  • +15

Strange why this havent gotten any traction yet when its a far better deal than similiarly priced nitro 5 which sells like hotcakes everytime its posted here

    • i5-10500h while looks similiar to the 10300h on the nitro, is actually a rebadged i7-10750h with 6c/12t

    • 144hz 72% ntsc panel, dont get very bright but far better than the washed out panel on the nitro 5

    • 105w 3060, no mux switch but your other option is 95w 3060 on the nitro 5

    • come with dual channel 16gb ram by default while most nitro 5 deals had a single stick

    • a very wide selection of ports, with DP1.4 over the type C 3.2 gen2 port even

    • just overall an easier machine to maintence and upgrade, due to it being a clevo chasis

    • +3

Less traction now cuz desktop gpu prices have tanked

      • +3

desktop prices have tanked, but that didnt really affect the budget gaming laptop market

a 6c12t cpu rig with a 3060 will still net you far more than 1k in price, and the nature of laptops meant there will always be people buying them even if they are more expensive than similiar specced desktops

        • +1

Yes but the relative value is lower now given gpu prices have tanked by 30%.

Alot of the people who bought the nitro probably wanted a gaming desktop but couldn't afford the price tag back then because the difference was just too much. Now it's much closer so only people who are truly looking for gaming laptops would jump on this deal which isn't that many from the looks of it.

Don't get me wrong it's still an awesome deal.

    • The nitro have a firmware upgrade the 3060 from 95w to 115w… But either way, this laptop is pretty good value… Just wish there were some deep discount for the 3070 variant…

      • Source? Pretty sure it was 85w to 95w (official firmware upgrade), unless you mean flashing firmware from another model.

      • +1

Would you point out where? Because as far as I know acer never officially released a vbios that bumped it up to 115w. Besides, that would render its more expensive predator lineup meaningless as the helios 300 dont even get the full 115w support.

        • I thought it was to 115w… But maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's 85w to 95w only… I somehow thought it was to 115w… Apologies

    • for me its the crappy battery - depends if you want to use it as a desktop replacement or as an actual laptop sometimes

      • I get what you mean, the battery on this is trash but nitro 5's battery is also only 57wh which aint much of an upgrade is it?

        • Check this list and you may get yourself astonished.
An Intel-based Nitro 5 (i5-11400h/3060 85-95W 57Wh) gives you 88mins gaming on battery, while according to this review this laptop only gets about 40mins gaming on battery. I don't know what makes it so different, perhaps it's because the 3060 on Gigabyte G5 has 105w TDP which is 10w higher than Nitro 5?

          • @DBW: Depending on the game too? And probably bios update if any, is improving the battery?

    • +1

Less traction maybe because the brand , gigabyte?

    • The market demands for a gaming laptop is not as large as a gaming PC. With the release of 12th gen on a mobile platform, these older gens (10th and 11th) will only get cheaper and cheaper. For someone who really demands a gaming laptop, one probably wouldn't wait this long and grabbed one already from previous deals. Maybe that is why this deal doesn't get an overwhelming number of upvotes?

  • +3

This is a better deal than most used laptops on marketplace and gumtree. Lol

    • +11

Yeah I don't get laptops on Gumtree, people still think they can bring a buck..

      • +4

The actual deals get scooped in minutes by peps with alerters, and the remaining laptop deals get left there for weeks and months.

That's the ones we see and that's why they always suck total garbage.

        • Yeah people making money by flipping them.

      • +1

Yeah seen post of a Dwll laptop with RTX 1060 for 1k, tell em they are dreaming.

  • What’s Rtx 3060p ?

  • Does this qualify as something being 12 month old or more ?

    • what do you mean?

    • It's actually less than 12 months old model. Great worth at this price.

  • Thats a decent laptop that can game really well at 1080P. DLSS should make it a mid-high level 1440P machine.

  • Which is better this or G15 Ryzen Edition Gaming Laptop $1,094.98
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/g15-ryzen-editi…

    • +1

      Ryzen Fast CPU, Slow GPU.

    • +1

If you want more battery and don't care above Almost doubt the graphics. Then go with dell.
Else, nothing can beat this deal at the moment.
This has better GPU, Storage and RAM.

However, It's better to wait for Ryzen 6000 series laptops IF you want to go with Dell, they will have better CPU, Battery and Graphics for almost the same price after a few months from now.

  • +1

    solid deal.

yeah Clevo chassis and keyboard, but good power 3060, good screen, 3 storage slots.

    fantastic price

  • +3

A handy, detailed review of this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3XSVX6iQyA

  • Extremely poor battery life. According to this review for the battery test, this model was only able to last for 40mins when playing Cyberpunk 2077 while on battery.

    https://youtu.be/xurLMR54gfU

    • Um wouldn't that be normal?

      • Doesn't seem to be normal in my mind.
Check this list below for more information.
        https://jarrods.tech/list-of-laptop-battery-life/

You rarely see a result for 40mins when gaming on battery. Most of them can go 65mins and up.

        • Ok just thought If CPU and GPU was getting close to max out that battery life would be abysmal

  • +2

Will laptop prices come down with GPU prices falling? I thought it'd cross over slowly
    ?

    • +1

Funny, I was just about to type the exact same question. Haha

Yeah anyone know if the laptops are going to get cheaper now the GPU apocalypse has started.

  • +1

Bought it after watching the YouTube video.
Be used as desktop mode 100% of the time so will be fine.
    Thanks.

  • What’s happens if it dies in warranty period? Where do you take back to, or what is gigabyte like fixing?

  • anyone wants to share their thoughts on their purchase?
