Pretty sure they are a chinese company. Data security would be a potential issue

    • You should be able to block them with a firewall if you thing that's an issue for you.

      • +8

Or just don't use their products…

        • +3

My sanctions are no US/bully products

      • Because China doesnt know this and use servers hosted in the US through AWS/GCP/Azure….

      • Yep, defeating a state actor is usually as simple as blocking their website domain on your home router.

    • +1

Turn off your internet before backup to ensure all your 'Important Information' remain at your house!

      • +4

@YasimKudomi So install software on your computer that you believe could be malicious then try to protect your sensitive information from it.??!!

        • What are you talking about man! This is legitimate software not spyware! It's free so don't download it if you don't trust it.

    • +24

Does it make any difference? US companies steal your data too.

      • +2

Yes, but currently they're the good guys.

        • +11

They are Hollywood actors = Hypocrites - AU suffers much more from the US & their AU puppets in govt.

          • @taki: No they are at least taking your money only, not your organs and humanrights nor enslaving you by a chain and force you to give birth to their babies like what they did to women there. [Chain Woman China]

            • @agvwww: Chinese programmers are really diversifying these days.
Is organ harvesting common amongst software developers, or are you just trying to bend the argument to fit your logic ?

I mean, by the same token if we look at what America has done in the past…

              • +2

@Magpye: "铁链女 李莹 chain woman china " google it. I was not talking about the past. People who tried to save the victim out are being eliminated too, speechly and physicially. At least we can still use google and have freedom of expression out of China. Cherish it, please.

            • @agvwww: No one is perfect, even harder for a nation. If a Chain woman makes the whole of China a non-acceptable nation, how about the 800 thousand covid-19 death? 800 thousand is acceptable only because they died for democracy? Do not be pretending you are the one who can judge correction/incorrection.

              • @elseye: Compairable???
                Yes comrade.

                • @agvwww: Not Comparable???
Then you tell me why a software topic led you to raise a "Chain" topic?!

        • +1

They do seem to be winning the information war

        • +5

A country has 250years history with 236 years in war condition?

        • "Currently" is diplomatic

        • TGG is owned by JB HiFi

      • +1

Please don't use the word 'steal', they can access your information by right! Please read the t&c.

        • +3

Correct but I'd just add that something being in the t&c doesn't inherently make it right, in any moral sense. Legal, sure, but not ethical

          • +5

@Tinqer: Something being in the t&c doesn't make it inherently legal either even if you agreed to it.

            • +1

              @JerraJones: good call

            • @JerraJones: Really!?

              • @YasimKudomi: Yes, you can't make something illegal magically legal by putting it into the t&c such as "You agree to let us murder you without consequence". Though what might be legal for them to make you agree to will differ based on country.

            • @JerraJones: specially if you agree to illegal stuff, I guess? like those "No return goods" signs in "some" shops.

          • @Tinqer: Please don't use the software if you didn't fully agreed with the T&C, and please don't complaint if you agreed.

      • +6

        And use it against you.
US have a voracious appetite for your information.
They have backdoors and monitors for everything that passes through the digital realm. ( Yes, a bit of a hyperbole, but not too far from the truth).
China is equally bad, and is involved in state sponsored espionage and surveillance.
Ironically, we think bad of China, yet don't think twice about US products.

The same way as we all condemn Russian invasion of Ukraine. (Which we should)
Yet, we go about our own business when USA goes into Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan and destabilizes their country, kills and maims innocent victims, and then suddenly decide to leave, and create a vaccum.
Almost as if European lives are worth more than the brown/ Asian lives.
The only people who benefit from the war are mercenaries and weapons companies.

        • +3

Hypocrites & politicians are still humanbeing but dictators wont care lives.
          Thats it.

          • @agvwww: Funny. Nowadays, no one does not care about lives cause lives are in fact the source of their benefit come from. Hypocrites & politicians are actually doing the same dirty things but make you feel better, so if you pretend to be sleeping then no one can wake you up. It's your choice. But can never prove they are better.

      • +2

When people dont understand the difference from one country being some semblance of a democratic country and hence companies can be held liable as opposed to a dictatorship country where the companies to function have to report to the government and the government basically has total and full control of everything said and done legally or via media…

    • How do you know they are?
And trust me, they dont want any of American/Australians data. What are they going to find a bunch of cuckoId p? Lmfao

      • +1

Can I have your electronic mail, google photos, centerlink, iCloud passwords?

        • +4

His argument is the same ignorant crap I hear from sales people at work who refuse to setup MFA and follow the global policies.

"I've got nothing to hide! I'm an open book blah blah blah".

They sure do get squirmy when I start reading off their login locations, time of arrival, and what apps they've been overusing via our various monitoring systems though… Ain't that interesting

    • +4

dude you're on ozb, what makes you think they dont data mine their users? not to mention search engine trackers to shove targetted ads on every online device you have

    • Not as bad as the American spies (CIA, Patriot act that Apple must disclose on request, etc) or AU liers (ScoMo from marketing, & other corporatist puppets)

      • +3

Imagine the irony that you talk shit about America and not get into trouble while also being completely ignorant to the fact that if you did that about China, you'd go straight to organ harvesting jail.

  • Free back rubs?

  • Will this migrate a HDD to SSD?

    • +2

Did some googling to check and this page comes up about this software and provides the instructions to do the cloning of the HDD to SSD

      https://www.ubackup.com/clone/ssd-cloning-freeware-4348.html

    • +2

It will, but I'd recommend using Macrium reflect for this particular task.

Source: Me, after many years of using Aomei and the switching to Macrium and just finding it easier (TM).

Macrium is also pretty good for image based backups.

I've done 3 disk clones in the last 48 hours with Macrium as part of a set up of upgrades and prepping our home systems for Windows 11, and all worked perfectly.

      • I also highly recommend Macrium. It cloned my SSD where MiniTool and Acronis (came with SSD) could not. Finally cloned and upgraded to Windows 11 last night.

    • -1

      A SSD is a HDD.

However some drive manufacturers will give your a free tool to migrate your data.
      Here is the Samsung one.
      https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/t…

      • Thanks, yep am aware of the Samsung one, only works on Samsung SSD's though (AFAIK)

      • +2

        A SSD is a HDD.

        No they aren't.

    • Yep can also vouch for Macrium

  • +1

you forgot to state this only lasts a year so its a bit useless if you dont plan on using right now
which i already moved my stuff over to a new laptop. wish i got this before than

they have a deal for usd $24.97 for lifetime after you get this, is it worth it or nuh?

    • So backup is free, but you might have to pay for restore?

      • +1

Apparently in the comments for the product once you click through, you can use the free version to restore your backups.

    • +2

If it is the same as previous giveaways, the one year limit was on updates. The program keeps working (save the code if you plan to move machines).

And they do this giveaway every year on back up day, and often in the middle of the year as well.

You could always use Veeam free instead.

    • It's the only thing anyone needs to use

  • How does this software fare against Veeam, Acronis, and Macrium Reflect?

Macrium Reflect seems to be a popular choice in the Whirlpool community.

    • I think this can do folder sync, not sure about others.

BTW, 1 year license free only

    • +2

In terms of origin (and geopolitics), Acronis and Veaam were founded in Russia and are still developped there. A twist is that Veeam's Chief Engineer & Architect, Anton Gostev, is Ukranian. For extra cautious (paranoid), cutting of the internet may not be enough as the following example shows:
      https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/03/sabot…
      Stick with Macrium. 😊

      • +2

But Veeam gave us free swag!

  • I used aomei for backup. The program has memory leaks and you will need to restart your computer all the time. Badly written program.

    • Hmmm, I'm puzzled. If its the application has memory leak issue, simply quite it will reclaim all the leaked, why you need to restart anyway?

      • +1

        Google it yourself.

  • My dad just accidentally formatted his external hdd - are any of these programs suitable for undoing this? I told him to stop using it immediately (because he always manages to make things worse…) until I can check on his recovery options.

    • No, the data recovery one appears to be for iOS only. You probably want a PC or Mac data recovery software.
Find a mate that's tech savvy to help your dad or there might be people near you willing to do it for $100 (though you might need to provide another external HDD as they tend to prefer to copy the files to another drive, unless simply restore the partition record data works).

    • A while back, I used getdataback to recover my HDD after format.. not all recovered, but most of it.. you can have a look, for an option

    • +1

      Try EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard

  • not free for me but have used before :(

  • does the backupper work for win10 and win11 under secureboot and uefi securities?

    • If you can see the source disk and target disks from file explorer, then you should be fine. Can confirm I've done several recent backups with secureboot, uefi and TPM in place.

From my (very limited) understanding Secureboot is about preventing system hacks at startup, and UEFI is the new generation of system BIOS. Neither should affect your ability to backup or clone.

      Can't comment on bitlocker though.

  • downloaded, serial came with download, have to use use it before april 1st. then it will last for 1 year.

    • Can you please share the serial code for 10 mins then delete it? I've now got trial mode only

  • Can anyone advise what is the difference of using third-party software vs windows built-in system image backup tool?
