Same machine as above but with 3060 $1,819.30
and people selling their used for $2500 on gumtree

    • +1

Lol, gumtree is full of people who are unable to read the market. Every now & then I come across posts where people are selling used stuff for more than the price of a newer one.

    • I sold my 3070 5 pro for $3k on ebay in November, made like $300 lol

      • +3

        Okay scalper dog

  • any upsized cashback ?

  • Is this a good buy or there is better for same price ?

    • +1

Grab the legion 5 pro 16' for under 1.8k with the same code

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5…

      • How do you get it under 1.8k?

        • AUTUMNAU code and maybe cashreward?

        • Always try Lenovo sales support, they can usually cut a deal. Just remember they give different answers so worth trying a couple times to see the best price they'll do.

          • @CEO Rachel Jake: Interesting, do you ask them to lower the initial non-coupon price? They don't give you a coupon themselves? (I'm assuming only one code is allowed)

            • @leonardr: Basically they email you a cart with the laptop and whatever extras at the final quoted price over chat and you can either pay for it and go through with the order or you can ignore it and try again.

          • @CEO Rachel Jake: I tried to talk to sales to see if they can shave a bit more off. The sales person said that the system would not allow it. Is there other channel that i need to pursue to try and shave a bit more off?

            • +1

@Finarfin: I'd definitely try a couple times, different sales people give different answers and prices. Helps if you have seen a certain price that you're trying to get matched, even if it's an eduction price they still sometimes match. But it's dependent on what the agent is willing to do.

      • Just bought the Pro 5 16" yesterday from Lenovo….couldn't find a code…Anyone know if i can get the Code discount reimbursed?

        • Maybe cancel your order or refund it and try again

    • +3

The Legion 5 Pro 3070 is pretty competitive in terms of pricing for the build quality. It’s a good buy if you’re looking to get a laptop now.

  • This or the dell

    • +4

      dell

      • better cpu

      legion

      • better cooling

      • better panel (i suggest go for the 16' L5p instead of 17', better panel on that one and cheaper)

      • can upgrade storage

gpu wise, the dell gets a 3070ti but its only 130w, legion have the 3070 but gets the full 140w, so they are more or less equal

    • +3

As mentioned in the Dell post. The G15 chassis, from experience, is much lower quality vs the Legion /Pro. Dell puts a good CPU and GPU in the chassis but the rest of the components are low quality, especially the cooling. The G15 chassis has always been plagued by thermal and panel issues no matter what iteration.

    • this.

  • What's the link for the 3070 model?

    • This I can’t find it

      • +1

Have added the link in the description, you'll find the option to change the graphics card when you customize

        • Thanks for that.

The only model I could add the 3070 to was the Web Price: $2,599.00, after applying the discount I ended up getting $2,263.81 not the $2064.31. Have I missed something?

          • @TThomas: probably. I chose the last of 4 models, and successfully got the right price

  • Remember to stack with cash rewards for additional 8%.

  • Code seems to work with all of the legion range, there might be other good configurations and deals out there.

  • Big decision.
    16 inch with 3070 or 17 inch with 3060. I don't really game anyway.

    • I can’t edit to a 3070, where is it

    • +1

      16 inch

better screen better gpu better portability better battery life just an overall better laptop for not much more

      • Roughly how long would the battery last ? I wouldn't use it for gaming and primarily office app use.. was considering the LG Gram 16/17" too

        • I would say ~6 hours assuming no keyboard backlight, optimus enabled and 50% brightness

  • +1

Bought the 16 inch upgrade to 3070, $2063. How do I claim the cash rewards ?

Edit : just got email confirmation $173 refund. Thanks ozb!!!!

Now my daughter can use it for “homework” 8 week delivery though YIKES.

    • Which model did you customise to get 2063? I'm getting ~2263 when I customise and add the 3070

      • +1

choose the $2599 one (last one)

        • Thanks! I must have added something else when I first did it. getting $2064 now

    • +1

I saw your comment on cash rewards so I tried it for the first time. Got the $173.40 email confirmation. Thanks

Got the cash rewards confirmation email about 15mins after ordering if anyone wants to know. Thanks.
The 8+ weeks wait is going to be brutal. Lol

    • +1

I have a feeling your cash rewards could be cancelled later on, because literally on the first paragraph of cash rewards’ special terms stated “Cashback is ineligible when using codes not listed on Cashrewards” , and I don’t see Autumnau listed on the website. Unless the cash rewards reps here in Ozbargain can confirm this.

  • Can anyone plz comment on the battery backup of legion 5 17inch with amd 5800h rtx 3060.

No game but normal office tasks multiple browsers, teams meeting etc. Might have to output every now and then too.

    • you might get 4-5 hrs with mid brightness

      • Ooh that's messed up. I was trying to upgrade from 14 inch yoga slim 7i which gives me hardly 3 to 4.

        I7 11 gen
        16gb
        Iris
        14inch

  • You've got to be kidding me. I just bought https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688028 today

    • +3

The ozb curse make the purchase and never read a related thread again. There’s always disappointment.

    • Did the same…although i got the 16" with the better screen…No discount code though yesterday. Murphys law…will see if i can get it reimbursed or cancel and reorder.

  • +1

Legion 7 is also available for those who are interested in that model.
Similar specs with RTX 3070 and 1TB SSD comes up to $2414.31 with the coupon code.

    • Is 7 better than 5?

      • +1

Yes, it is precisely 2 better!

In all seriousness, yes it's the next tier above the Legion 5. Pretty sure there's no Legion 6. Not sure of the differences in specifications though.

      • +1

I think it's a matter of preference and budget, the Legion 7 has the following features over the Legion 5 Pro

        • Vapour chamber cooling.
        • RGB accents. But also has a cleaner design when RGB accents are off.
        • Slightly thinner and full aluminium build (instead of partial aluminium).
        • Glass trackpad.
  • value for money, L5P with 3070 for $2064 is top choice

usually were full power 3060 at this price not long ago

top build quality, great screen, top power TGP

I only wish it had per key RGB and a FHD panel instead of QHD. can't tell the difference on a screen this screen size, but affects frames per sec.

also I wish it didn't come with a 2 months lead time

  • +2

Bought L5P 3070 in Dec. Motherboard dead in 1.5 months and refunded full at $2500. I got to keep the cashback as well $150.

    • bad luck. I also had a bad luck with an HP Omen very recently

it was crashing quite predictably after 20 minutes of gaming

also fully refunded. QC is spotty everywhere nowadays

Intel X15 - returned, overheating and dumb control software

HP Omen - returned, described above

Gigabyte A5 - returned, extreme screen backlight bleed (also the damn thing ran uncontrollably loud)

that's all between black friday and now

      • +1

Got Razer 14 3070. So far so good and better fit for me.

        • looks like we went opposite ways.

got a 3070 17incher Aorus and happy chappy haha

      • i got my lenovo ideapad gaming 3 in november last year (regret not getting a legion for the better cooling instead). QC was a bit shonky, had something rattling and they were a bit iffy about coming out if they couldn't repair it. i ended up opening up the case (broke a couple plastic tabs which is the main reason why i wish i bought the legion for the aluminium chassis instead) and turns out the cmos battery wasn't secured and was moving around. another issue i had was when the screen was tilted back past a certain point it would make an annoying clicky noise. after opening the chassis again i noticed that the cables for the wifi and bluetooth antenna were a bit too tight around the hinge so i ended up having to remove the whole cpu/gpu cooler assembly to give the antenna cables some more slack and then having to redo the thermal paste. figured whilst i was at this point i would fit a furyx impact 32gb memory kit and a 2tb nvme ssd as well.

QC doesn't seem to be the best with these new products but at least mine were easy fixes for me to do. i find that these Ryzen CPUs tend to heat up quite a bit despite pulling less power than the GPU. I have disabled boost on mine to keep the CPU temps below 70 degrees despite the CPU only using 32w, yet the GPU pulling 70-80w stays at around 60 degrees with no issues.

    • +3

Can't guarantee that you had the exact same issue I did (I have the 3060 model, bought in Nov 2021), but for anyone worrying about this issue, it did appear that my L5P's motherboard was dead too, but there was a surprisingly easy fix.

After a lot of Googling, I found out that there's an obscure way of hard resetting the laptop. After powering it on and showing no signs of life except fan noise and keyboard backlighting, you then are forced to turn it off using the power button. But the next time you power it on, just hold down the power button and don't let go. After ~10 seconds it will reboot AGAIN and you CAN let go, which resets the motherboard and allows you to boot into Windows just fine.

Mine has had no issues since and probably won't have any more, thanks to some BIOS updates.

      Hope this helps someone!

  • Ship time more than 8 weeks is a bit tough. Not sure if it was like that before it got Ozbargained.

BTW, discount code also applies to the Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 (12th Gen intel), you can pick up one with similar specs to the pro in this deal (3070, 1440p, 512gb, 16gb) for 2.4k. Paying $500 for 12th gen intel and to downgrade to non-pro model doesn't seem worth it, but if you have a hard on for the new CPUs (which look pretty good) it's not a bad price for a brand new model.

    • This is non-Pro model. And if you choose 3070ti shipping time is withing 7 weeks. Thinking about it…

      • Yes, you are right sorry, brain fart when I was typing it out.

The Gen7 is non Pro (pro version not yet for sale).

        • Thanks I just got the Legion 5i gen 7 with rtx 3070 ti and QHD panel, plus the other small upgrades like HD webcam and RGB keyboard. The 30% off is too good to pass up.
It came to $2550 after the code.
Now here's to hoping the battery life isn't atrocious on account of this being an Intel lol

          • @nenjih: I think it's great price for a brand new release. The intel seems to be benchmarking pretty well so hope it works out.

  • Does the legion 5 pro 16’ have one or two slots for an ssd

    • +1

there's two nvme ssd slots running at pcie 3.0 x4, one is already occupied for the OS drive. technically there's a third short m2 slot if you want to ditch the wifi bluetooth card.

      • Any nvme ssd should fit right , doesn’t have to be specifically for a laptop

        • from the specs sheet on the lenovo website it says m2 2280 slots, so it can handle 2x 80mm nvme ssds. my ideapad gaming 3 has the slots in a different position but has full 80mm slots, i just got an skhynix p31 gold ssd 2tb and it works fine. it does get a bit warm at 67 degrees peak so i may need to get a thermalpad to get heat transfer to the aluminium plate on the chassis. however, i don't see it being an issue in gaming as you wouldn't be maxing out the speeds.

  • +1

8 weeks waiting time is when the 6000 series Ryzen CPUs with better everything(RAM, SSD, Wifi…) are coming out & maybe upgraded Legions as well. Coincidence?

    • +2

6000 ryzen machines are already out in other parts of the world. they also wont be at this price in the next half a year or so.

if you only care about gaming, this is the way to go. 6000 series is mainly upgrades with regards to igpu and battery life, cpu performance gains are minimal, still the 16mb of L3cache as well. not to mention the -ti cards are also a miniscule upgrade. Legion are still using realtek chips with 2022 models so no upgrade there and i guess you do get ddr5 ram (but again at this stage they also provide minimal upgrade compared to ddr4 3200mhz).

If you arent going with the '21 models better wait for 40th gen machines at this stage.

  • +1

Good price but beware - may ship with inferior memoey (source Jarrod's tech ) - 10% avg fps drop up to 50% drop to minimum fps - good idea to set aside $130 for a memory upgrade.

    • +1

      may ship with inferior memory

not just 'may' actually, basically all laptops with 2*8gb sodimm ram shipped this year have the slow ram. because the faster single rank chips arent being made anymore.

      • I believe msi is still shipping their laptops with single rank plus you can buy the kits pretty easily

    • Do you know if this applies to the 2x16gb configuration too?

      • All 16gb sticks have the faster low density ram. So all good if you get that option.

  • 16:10 on the 16" one, hmm

  • +1

Both do not have hdmi 2.1

"We've found the issue regarding the HDMI 2.1. It requires a minimum of 8 lanes to run at 4k at 120Hz but the configuration of the system's bandwidth is divided into two. The other one is for the internal LCD uses and the other x4 lanes is for the HDMI 2.1 uses.

    • There is the DP port if you need 4k120hz output

    • +1

After further investigation. The legion 5 pro 3070 will output extended screen 4k 120Hz 8bit 4.4.4 which is great because that's the main reason I bought it yesterday.

  • Wow the L5P with 3070 at $2k is great price - I know someone who paid $2.6k few months ago…

    • +1

I paid L5P with 3070 for $2500 in Nov last year. But it came with 2*16Gb fast RAM as well as 1Tb SSD.

  • This with 3070 or the Intel nuc one 3070 (kraken bpc tech)?

  • Just ordered the 3060 version. Says ships in 2 business days. Hopefully that is correct.

  • Hi, can anyone who has a Legion 5 Pro 16'' comment on the screen and how it handles games? I've never had a 16:10 screen so I'm not sure if I'll be too bothered by the black bars or if the bars show up in most games, and if the screen not being FHD will have a noticeable impact on fps when playing games. Any other general comments or thoughts on how the laptop operates and feels will be greatly appreciated too :)

Also, I'm thinking of getting the L5P 3070 at $2k - will I regret not going for the L7 instead? Planning to use this for the next 5 years at least.

  • How did you get the L5P with 3070 for 2k? I cant apply the code and when i customize it it comes to 2.9k and the code doesnt work, i get an error. what am i doing wrong?

    • +3

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5…

      • Not sure why it didnt work before. Maybe i may have added a whitespace before or after the code. It shows up as 2k as advertised. Cheers

        • +1

It's really only $1891 with cashrewards. That's what I paid.
          $173.40 back from cash rewards.

  • +1

with those all long shipping time, is there a chance they ship earlier than the quote, or actually get ready to get them longer than quoted ?

  • I notice we can select the 230W adaptor for the RTX 3070 model.

Anyone know if that's sufficient power? Ideally that's what I would pick if it is because it's lighter.

  • So tempted to get this as have been eyeing off laptops for ages.

So is the RAM issue of low quality RAM quite an issue? What's the best alternative to purchase RAM?

I should do the same for the second SSD drive too I guess, can seem to purchase online in Aus for a third the price that Lenovo offer.

Is it worth the upgrade to W11 Pro or just stick to Home?

Sorry the array of questions, just been out of the game a bit, but can see this deal moving quick!

    • +1

Faster ram is about 10% faster in games.

Don’t waste your money on Windows 11 pro. You can buy a cheap Windows 11 pro key for like $25 from websites down the track.

Buy a second SSD yourself for less that half the price later. Same with the ram and don't forget you can sell the existing ram to cover most of the cost for better ram.

  • How long does this promotion go for?

    • The rep said until 31st March
But they can run out of stock

  • This reddit thread sugguests Crucial or Kingston RAM if upgrading: https://www.reddit.com/r/LenovoLegion/comments/qmoxpq/is_thi…

I can't seem to find the curcial kit anywhere, but there're plenty single 1x32g with the same spec(. Is it OK to upgrade to a single 32gb RAM?
    Single 32gb RAM link: https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-Single-SODIMM-260-Pin-Memo…

    • +1

Your own reddit link answers your question:

A single stick of memory is also slower than dual channel memory with 2 sticks

      • Thanks, I must've missed that bit.

        • need to upgrade your car to faster one ! sorry :D cant resist.

  • Hi all,

Note the code has now expired. I ordered yesterday but Lenovo haven't processed the payment yet so thinking they may do order cancel not sure.

    • Code still works for me.

      • +1

Strange, maybe because I already have one ordered and I tried to order another one to see if the code still works. Probably it is a one-off usage.

I was thinking whether to cancel my order and order it again to get the shopback but just in case the deal's off I won't do the cancellation - paid by paypal yesterday but strange that the payment hasn't been deducted yet and it still shows as "pending"
