Moved to Melbourne at the start of the year, guess it's time to get one of these.

Edit: Good thing I haven't become a black clothes wearing melbourner yet because they only have blue

    • If you want to have a look at how, spectacularly, you can break this rule then go to Fitzroy and look at Shag and Vintage Garage. Amazing clothing.

      Moved to Melbourne

You need to be part of the Kathmandu crowd to be in.

      The Dan Andrews look.

Scotch & Soda. that's how I am a colourful melbournian

    • Melbournian or Melbournite! Please don't call us Melbourners :D

      • +9
        Melburnian*

If you're going to correct people you should probably get it right yourself…

        • I heard someone saying Melbie the other day. I was like….Wat???

        • Thanks for the correction. I had thought that Melburnian and Melbournian were the same, apparently not! Is the pronunciation same for both or not really?

    • -4

Just hold an I vote liberal sign.

I am sure it will be covered in brown quickly in Melbourne.

    • -5

Enjoy the lockdowns. You may not need the jacket if you are forced to stay home ;)

      • +2

Actually, I think our temperatures are evening out a bit. We didn’t get any 40C days this year and the winters don’t seem to have been so cold. However, our humidity is, also, going up. I think we might be getting Sydney’s weather.

        • Don't be too quick to celebrate. There are (and always have been) weather cycles spanning a few years, but the long term trend is alarming unfortunately.

      • 2021 called…

  • +1

i have too many of these, but blue is my fave colour. hmm

  • Winter is coming!

  • +4

Who is buying these at $280?

    • +4

the one who loves milk teas

    • Uni grads who can afford to buy the latest Merc as an investment vehicle.

      • I doubt they'd be buying macpac and not north face

    • Since they're never actually this price, no-one.

  • Will these handle train commute with a backpack, I once had one of the lower quality ones rip at the shoulder due to backpack, but I like the down jacket look

    • +2

I've had mine for a couple of years now and I used to commute daily (in the pre Covid times) with a backpack and it's held up fine. This is my go to jacket pretty much every other day during cold weather and I've taken it overseas as well. So far so good.

      • Thanks a lot, I’ll get one

Love seeing fellow Ozbargainers in the city rocking these, there's always a silent appreciation between us tight arses, often an awkward eye contact, both thinking 'you got that on an Ozb deal didn't you… you filthy animal'…

    • +11

Macpac jacket, Blunt umbrella and Ultraboosts. Or if you're feeling fancy, RM Williams.

      • +1

        Don’t forget the eneloops, lol

        • +7

Yeah, because everyone walks around with those visible…

          • +18

@John Kimble: I slide a pack under my t-shirt sleeve, like people used to do with ciggies. Its a very cool look and I get nods from those in the know.

  • OzBargained?

  • Is the hood worth it?

    • +2

      On windy days hell yeah!

      • +9

I’ve got a Macpac, with a hood, and I, rarely, use the hood. For a start it restricts peripheral vision. I prefer a good “beanie” hat instead. It is closer insulation to your head and doesn’t block the vision.

    • +1

I have the hooded version and I only use it when it's raining. I find the hood too big so it obstructs my peripheral vision. It's good for the plane/long train rides though if you want to nap. I only bought the hooded version because I like the look of it more.

    • +1

It depends. If you're somewhere really cold or hit the outdoors lots with this then it's well worth it. If you're using it for urban warmth then it adds bulk and is a bit annoying.

EDIT: Note the hooded jacket listed above is different to the halo jacket. The hooded is a lightweight, everyday jacket, whereas the halo is a full warm down jacket for proper warmth.

    Ordered.
Don't forget 1.4% cashback with cashrewards.

  • +1

Pretty sure this jacket is ozbargain uniform at this point.

    • The hybrid Camry of jackets.

Kathmandu is the Tesla of jackets.

      • +1

nuh, in Canberra Kathmandu is the lower level of public servants, Macpac is mid exec and north face is upper exec. Sure there are some that break the mold, Patagonia or Mountain Designs, but they are pretty much the 'look at me, I'm different' brigade

I have Aldi, but I'm not a public servant.

        • I thought pricing is kind of like Macpac > Kathmandu > North Face > Patagonia

I thought mountain design was similar to macpac. Could be wrong.

Personally don't wear any of this stuff. Scored a Hilfinger Jeans (think it is cheaper version of Hilfiger) long polyester padded jacket ten years ago for $80 in the UK from TK Maxx.

        • You forgot Mont! But then, that's serious clothing for people who venture beyond A/C and central heating…

  • I keep trying to add one, it shows delivery available but in my bag it is unavailable.

  • Whats the deal with Macpac, I have had to return and re buy items twice ( now thrice) in last two months, the prices keep on dropping and dropping!

  • +2

the Uber version with the hood is super good (Melbourne winters)

I can wear one to an AFL match and not freeze to death, except perhaps the coldest couple times when I switch to a much heftier puffer jackie

but for everyday commute gets me through the winter no probs

packs into a very small carry pouch when not sure about the weather between the seasons. life saver

  • +3

I heart Macpac too, but isn't this deal a duplicate? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/690284

    • -2

No. This deal is for the clearance models of the Halo Macpac.

      • even that was on clearance? I see all the links to be the same, i do not get whats the difference! anyways whats the big deal if there are two deals ;)

        • +1

It’s not a big deal, I’m just surprised the mods didn’t nuke this one, they’re usually all over this sort of thing.

          • @Cyan9: Guidelines - Duplicates

Duplicate exceptions “The item is not in the title of the original deal.”

In the future you can report a deal you feel is a duplicate so we can remove it or let you know why it isn't removed (such as this case).

            • @hamza23: Cheers! Thanks for the response!

            • @hamza23: hmm, i did report it! it was neither removed or nor i was informed why isnt removed.

      • If you click through, you’ll see the other Halo is also 20% off clearance. It’s quite literally the same sale. Both posts reference the non-hooded halo for $79.20, on clearance.

  • How do you compare Macpac to Katmandu?

  • Is it just my browser or is the size on the Halo Vest (Clearance Model) not changeable from XS?

    https://www.macpac.com.au/macpac-mens-halo-down-vest/115389-…

Even if they run large, XS would be a tight fit for someone who is size M.

    • +1

It’s only showing XS, which indicates that’s the only available size.

If you call your local Macpac they might be able to source one (possibly from another store) as their online system removes products from the website once they get down to less than about 4 or so in stock.

  • +2

If buying this Is suggest going at least 1 size down. I'm currently between a L to XL depending on brand (carrying a little Xmas weight…..LOL!) and the medium was enough for this jacket.

  • +1

    Thanks. Snagged one!

  • Is it too warm for Sydney weather?

    • +1

Yes. Get the Uber light jacket.

  • +1

bought the same jacket few years back. Very warm.

  • +2

If you're a fat bastard - don't get this. It looks abit like you're wearing a trashbag.

A very warm trash bag though!

    • But there's only 2xl left for my Thicc Bois

  • +1

Order a size down - this is the first Small sized item of clothing I've worn since I was a kid.

  • only size 2XL left in unhooded - not worth paying $32 extra for hood version

  • Tip: order one size smaller, their sizes are bigger than other brands.
So if you wear medium, get small and so on.

  • These deals run out quick, I saw bcf also had it for a similar price but also only very large sizes left.

I ended up getting it from Rebel. They have the black colour in smaller sizes and its $100 + 8 shipping.
Seems reasonable for black based on previous deals. Also best to get it now as most likely it won't be cheap again till after winter based on previous deals here.
