Kopparberg Cider 15pk $34 - at First Choice

490

First Choice liquor are discontinuing Kopparberg lines so leftover stock is selling for cheap.
As far as I know this is Australia wide, but at very least it is in Victoria.
A friend and I managed to get 5 slabs each.
Some Dan Murphys (such as Burwood) will price match, so you can really clean up!
-Dan Murphys in Frankston will NOT price match and the manager seemed to be infuriated that we would even ask.

Can confirm this as i was the friend, couldn't believe it when we saw it.

  • Damn that's cheap! I had one of these at a resteraunt the other day and I think I prefer it to Rekorderlig

  • 500mL bottles yeah?

    • +1

      yep :)

      • Wonderful! Never tried Kopparberg but I do really like Rekorderlig. How does it compare?

        • Both nice but IMO too sweet. Swedish cider is all very sweet, from what I have tried at least. Prefer Irish style cider,

        • I liked it more than the Rekoderlig. The pear Kopparberg was sweet but it was a fruity sweetness, not sugary sweet. You could really taste the ripe pear flavor. That i think is the main difference between these Swedish-style ciders and things like UDL's. People say they're too sweet but it's not the same thing as sugary sweet.

        • +2

IMO it is slightly worse than Rekorderlig but better than most other ciders. Considering 3 oaks and Strongbow ciders are a lot worse and cost $40+, it puts the deal in perspective haha

        • +3

personally, i much prefer Rekorderlig, however at this price it's a no brainer!

if you like rekorderlig, you will probably enjoy koppaberg (even if you would prefer it to be rekorderlig!).

        • From the Kopparberg line, Elderberry and Lime is probably the best cider I've tasted so far. Right balance of sweet and sour.

If you like sucking down glorified cordial to give you the satisfaction that are drinking an alcholic beverage, go for it.

        • +1

well since the alcohol itself doesn't taste like anything, alcoholic cordial is as valid a beverage as any other kind of alcoholic beverage.

  • +1

Jeez that's incredibly cheap for kopparberg.. Might have to make a trip to first choice.

  • +2

Really hope this is happening in Brisbane.

    • I will be trying on the south side tonight. Hoping there is some left around 6pm!

      • +3

I just rung Keperra, Toowong, Lutwyche and Cannon Hill - no stock left.

        • and I haven't bothered to ring the other ones…

        • Lame :(

  • Naremburn store said no more stock. Sniff…

  • -1

No stock at Moonee Ponds or Ascot Vale :(

    • +5

This was actually just a lie. I just didn't want anyone to go to these stores and steal my ciders. In the immortal words of GoldenEye64 'Most dishonourable'. There wasn't any left when I got there anyway… Karma, I guess.

      • Thanks, going this morning…then they will be all gone haha

        Show grounds store

      • Damn you took all the stock! Waaaah :(

Went to the Bentley store (WA). Price tag definitely says $34 for a carton. However they were sold out of cartons, but there were exactly 15 single bottles of pear left on the shelf and one of the girls packed those in a box and sold it as a carton for me. Also she told me that they're being discounted as their past their best before date, and that I could have the carton for $25. BB date was 18 April.

    • i would think the amount of sugar in these would keep them preserved until 3012!

    • +1

Wow thats amazing! The ones we bought still taste fine :) it's only 'best before', not 'use by'.

      • i dont think food has a 'use by'/'expired' time anymore. they are all best before

  • Anybody know which Dan Murphy's do/do not price match besides the ones posted in the OP?

  • Price matched at dan Murphy's Belconnen (ACT) 2x cases for $67!

    Cheers OP!

    • How did you go about getting the price match?

  • Confirmed, picked up the last case from Ringwood.

    • You bastard! I was there about 20 minutes ago.. lol

On the positive side, Dan's in Ringwood price matched 2 cases for me. :)

      • Lol! I did you a favour, at least yours are in date ;-) Might go to Dans and get some more.

        • +1

          Ahhh yeah…. About that.

There is only pear left… I had to fill a box with apple, only left a couple bottles. Might be enough for a slab of elderflower or whatever the other flavours are.

  • What's the date on these? I was at concord 1st choice, there were about a dozen cases left, all best before May 2012.

  • 1st choice chaddie had none…
    1st choice ashbuton had 3 pear left…after I made my purchases…exp date apr 2012
Also got Dan Murphy Oakleigh to price match because they had the flavors I wanted (price made even better with the 5% off gift card) …exp date sept 2012 lol

all in all got 5 cases lol…thanks for this elliot81 :)

    • How did you get them to price match? Did you just show them a photo of this receipt?

      • i got the price match by showing then receipt from the ashbuton purchase, the receipt had to be on the same day I was told. They were genuinely shocked by the price but price matched because I fit all the conditions for the price match I guess. Its usually almost $70 a case..

If you are lucky you might be able to pick up one from ashbuton if they haven't been sold out. They are in the cold storage room.

Tell ya what, the pear is more sweeter then the pear cider i'm use it…a lot sweeter! I'm stuck with 5 cases of the stuff lol, at least the misses likes the stuff

Went to Caroline Springs store. There was no sign for the $34 slabs, just 3 bottles for $9. Asked the lady there, she said it was $50 for a slab. Walked out, got to car, thought about it for a second and realised that the slab must be $34 if they are selling 3 bottles for $9. Grabbed a slab, took it to counter, it scanned at $34. So grabbed a second one as well and even got the bloke who works there to carry the second one to my car!

Still a few slabs there, pear version only, best before says April 18th.

  • Not applicable to SA. DM/Coles have it exclusively here.

    • yep i just ran FC Unley and was pretty disappointed…

broadmeadows has 1 slab left of pear in the fridge.
Anyone else notice that the slabs are BB: 18th april.
but its alcohol so who cares

    • I think I was in front of you at the checkout with two slabs :)
The guy said there were 10 slabs in the cold room when I called at 5pm.

I stopped by at two Dan Murphy stores on the way home (I live in Preston), the Campbellfield store didn't want to price match because they called First Choice in Broadmeadows and were told the stock was expired.

The Dan Murphys store on Mahoney's Road near Keon Park was more than happy to price match after he popped his head into my boot (to make sure it was the 500ml slabs - the receipt didn't say).

Ended up with two slabs of pear and two slabs of strawberry (which is ok til 2013…)

For those in Sydney, North Rocks had at least 10 slabs when I picked up mine tonight

    • Pear only though.

    • Hey mate,

Could you confirm the best before date? Hoping theres a case or two left when I head down after work.

      Cheers

      • One left at north rocks right now, good luck

        • I bought the last one from north rocks last night . Thanks ozbargain!

Tooronga store had plenty of pear stacked about 6 boxes high but only 3 mixed fruits left.

    • Picked up one of the mixed fruits this morning, was still two left. About 20 cases of pear left

  • dont have any in my area so cant join ….

  • Read this as Rekorderlig. :(

I called the first choice in Jandakot, WA. The guy said Woolworths have them exclusively over here :(

    • False. Someone above went to Bentley, WA and got some.

      • He must have been misinformed, But thats what the bloke told me over the phone..

        • He's definitely wrong. Today went to the store in Bicton WA and snapped up the last 15 single bottles there too. Went to the Midland store and they had nothing and wont bother with Jandakot now. Midlands Dan Murphys wouldnt price match. After showing the receipt they called up 1st Choice and when they got told it was a clearance price they wouldnt do it.

  • Tried Dan Murphys Eastwood. They did not want to price match unless i can provide an advertisement or catalog for that.

    • +1

If you tell them to call their nearest First Choice that should be sufficient :)

  • +2

None in Toowoomba. They didn't have any Kopparberg cider in the store at all (cases, single bottles et al), and staff didn't seem familiar with that brand. And looks like they've ditched their foursquare deals too. It's enough to drive one to drink ;)
