I’m wondering if this is a good deal for the price?

Probably best to do some research on price before posting…

  • Price in title, also where from?

  • Price on title , if you wonder Google it first.

      Don't stress mate.
Some people on this forum will pick at a listing whenever they have even the smallest opportunity.
      It's a solid deal.

  • Is a bargain compared to gumtree/marketplace

  • +1

are you telling us its a good deal or asking us?

This is actually quite a good machine - it has 8 good cores - much faster than most intel laptops which are presently limited to only 4 cores. That's because it's 11th gen H series. Won't last that long on batter but the performance is equivalent to current AMD systems that also have 8 cores.

Whether it's good for the price is another question - it's got high build quality, and super high refresh screen, and RTX 3070, plus a 17 inch screen. With that screen and GPU it's specialised for a gamer into high refresh games, such as e-sports.

For that target, I think it's probably still good value, though for the money you can get e.g. good Lenovo Legion systems that are comparable.

For anyone else, it's probably not worth it because it's too specialised with expensive stuff you don't need.

      Adorable ❤

    • I would love to hyper-scroll through 100k-row spreadsheets on that screen.

Are Razer's customer services still sh|t or basically non exist?

    • yep

    • -1

Yes they are, and so is the build quality and reliability of their products.

  • For a 17" inch 3070 laptop, its a decent deal, however i wish the screen was 1440p and i think the TGP of the 3070 is only 100w

    • +1

      This is mid-'21, 130W 3070

      • hehe nice name .. do you have a source for that i'm curious

        and have an upvote!!

    • +1

I had a look at a bunch of pages but none listed the 3070 wattage .. sad state of affairs when you can't find out what is being sold

to be honest, as an owner of 2020 Blade 17 Pro:
    - keyboard isn't great for gaming
    - control software is cool but buggy
    - design is kind of boring
    - customer support is not good
    - warranty 1 year
    - had flicker on the panel running on battery power
    - had static in speakers running on battery power
    - support was getting nowhere, just the usual kind of "let's restore the whole machine to factory settings and see what happens" which of course did nothing

I doubt I will ever get a Razer again, not in the next couple years

so I just returned the damn thing. that was a 2080 Super Max-Q

I got a comparable Aorus 17g (11800h, 3070, 300hz panel, full metal body, can't be bent, even the lid) for $2000 refurb with same 1year warranty. and it has a mechanical keyboard, larger battery, and a service centre right here in melbs

new one will be 2 year warranty and same price as this, though.

P.S. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185234729223 here it is. with ebay plus code it's $2599 new, with 2 years warranty. I actually prefer it to the Razer because of:
    - mechanical keyboard is a win
    - build quality is on par, if not even better
    - 2 year warranty

no real downgrades from Razer, except you're not paying $$$ for the brand

    • Hi Shabaka how's the mech keyboard on the Aorus compared to the one on Intel NUC (Kraken)?

      • +1

I can't compare them directly, since I returned the X15, but from memory, X15 keyboard was quieter

Aorus keyboard is louder, but I think the key travel is deeper. per key RGB is more vivid on Aorus. looks nicer

build is much tougher on Aorus. also 300hz vs 240/165. cooling is better since there's more internal volume. TGP is also lower 100w vs 130w (or was it 140?). control software is much easier to deal with compared to NUC studio. quieter gaming experience compared to X15, comparable to Razer 17 Pro, although that one was louder in high pitch.

Aorus can get loud in max performance mode but I find that I don't need it to enjoy games like Ghostrunner or Control. Balanced does the trick and stays relatively quiet and cool.

        • also forgot to mention that X15 keyboard backlight had loud coil whine on battery power, annoying AF, a few other people reported that, too

          nothing like that on Aorus

    • +1 for melbs

      • that's the place to be 🌏

        • … for an education 🙄

    • I've got the 2020 Razer 15 Advanced 2070 Super. Have had zero issues.

That being said, a friend bought the Razer Stealth and has heaps of issues. For a "premium" device, seems to be hit or miss.

Personally I love the design, I will agree the keyboard leaves a bit for desired use.

      • yep, see, I had my Blade 17 pro and had these annoying issues. was bugging me enough to return the damn thing. yeah, design was good, but a fkin fingerprint magnet. I don't know why they couldn't do this better. Aorus has a different kind of finish on the alloy, has much higher fingerprint tolerance.

but if it didn't have the flicker and the static on battery power I would have kept it. 2080S was a good card, keyboard was passable.

    • I have the Aero 17 with the same cpu and gpu but with a 4k screen. The screen is really nice, cooling is usually quiet. Gigabyte software is crap, I recommend deleting it. It makes the laptop get hot and the fans go loud. Webcam is not crispy, sound is not loud and neither great. Fingerprint reader on the trackpad sucks. Webcam lacks Windows Hello support.
TLDR: the laptop design is nice and feels solid, screen is nice, full size keyboard is nice, speakers and webcam is subpar for the price tag.

      • gigabyte software is a bit rough around the edges, but works well once you know how to handle it (disable "AI").

I run mine on Balanced plugged in, Power saver on battery). I don't think you can set per key RGB without gigabyte software either. also precise handling of fan power curve is superb. ability to limit charging to, say, 85% is helpful, too.

why do you say it's crap?

        • It happened to me that the Gigabyte software at one point was using too much CPU and therefore consuming too much battery and running hot. It turned out that the software uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WmiPrvSE.exe) to get metrics but I guess there was a bug in the former. I had the AI feature turned off, it was the first thing I did after I started using it. I also noticed that the battery charging limiter did not work for me. It would go over the limit no matter what.

      • also Razer camera was not better than you describe. no fingerprint reader there. my fingerprint reader on Aorus trackpad works fantastic. sound on Razer was average, too.

all premium laptops have about the same quality of components, some are way more expensive though.

        • The fingerprint reader works ok, I think it's precision is average (not too bad) compared to the fingerprint readers on my phones (they don't like my sweaty finger). I just don't like the position, it's on the trackpad, it could be anywhere else, it feels like it's on the way.

Overall the laptop is not bad, but for the price my company paid I was expecting it to be better.
