typical of a business more interested in customer sales than customer service.

@codaroma: Not true at all we just invested several million $ to significantly improve customer service, communication and dispatch times..

We just moved into a facility 5x the size and we have increase headcount in the customer service department..

There will be a significant improvement in these area's shortly.

The usual crowd of whingers who will neg and down vote the retailer.

    • How about we take it from a different angle? As a customer, how could anyone know it was really a price error instead of genuine promotional price? Actually it is pretty lucratively practice by deliberatively posting a low price item then dishonor the orders by claiming it was a price error since they get the visits without paying the advertisement fee. I have observed quite a few business routinely doing that a few times a year. We'll need a law to prevent business from getting way free by claiming price errors and actually there are countries have already done that since such practices were so rampant.

As a customer, how could anyone know it was really a price error instead of genuine promotional price?

Because the price is so far from the RRP of the item and also the same item in smaller quantities that anyone with at least 2 brain cells could tell it is an error.
Especially as it was not marked on sale or clearance.

Actually it is pretty lucratively practice by deliberatively posting a low price item then dishonor the orders by claiming it was a price error since they get the visits without paying the advertisement fee

        No it isn't.
For every purchase that was made the store needs to refund the buyer, deal with questions and so on.
Plus it's it common that credit card processors do not refund merchant fees.
Most people probably paid with PayPal.
        PayPal's standard commercial free is 2.60% + $0.30

That means every PayPal transaction cost the store $0.45. That free isn't refunded.

Paying for click based advertising is much cheaper than $0.45.
Especially when you also factor in the time of refunding each transaction because labour isn't free either.

        • -4

You're right, it's a huge Pita to process refunds they should just send us the goods instead as a good will gesture, that's where the real advertising dollar is worth spending

        • -5

They made an error and can easily honor their advertised price.

          • +2

@shegeloaf: Sure, they could even sack their workforce and close down because they lost so much money selling these below cost.

I'm sure the people with no jobs will be glad 1000 people got some discounted soap.

        • Then how do you justify there are promotional prices of 90% off, maybe even more? Sometimes businesses even want to pay the customers to get rid of some stocks.

And please don't be so petty about the costs of the transactions. Comparing to advertisement fees, those were almost nothing. If you are interested, go search yourself how much can cost just for single ad click, which does not even bring you a purchase.

          • @[Deactivated]: because those products don't sell, are close to expiry, losing the right to sell (RM williams), closing down business, need space for different products, moving location and its cheaper to sell at a loss than it is to move all the product? there could be a thousand reasons why.

are you actually being serious, or just trolling for the sake of it?

      • +3

So what your saying is that humans cant make errors and inadvertently place a decimal point in the wrong place when entering the price of a product on a website or other marketing medium? They may not have the luxury of another to second check their work. These are legitimate businesses trying to make a living, give them a break…

When a product is priced at less than 10% of it's normal RRP, doesn't common sense prevail and make you think, hey they may have this pricing wrong? No, instead I'll buy 20 of the incorrectly priced item, then complain when the purchase is refunded… Really???

I'm sure the majority of website pricing errors are exactly that, genuine errors, not elaborate backdoor marketing schemes devised to dupe consumers…

        • +12

One of our new staff members made a small mistake which is how this happened.. Just basic human error not the end of the world everyone makes mistakes.

We did look at the cost of fulfilling the orders but the cost is just explosive but perhaps we can do something else.

A lot merchant facilities (PayPal etc) no longer refund merchant fee's on refunds unfortunately and it will take considerable amount of man power to process all these refunds so not exactly a cheap or fun exercise for us either.

          • +4

@autoss: i would not worry about the people here complaining, they are the type to sell their own grandmother if they think they can get 5 bucks for her, just bitter old misers

            • @[Deactivated]: Hey I wouldn't sell my grandma for anything less than $10. NO LOW BALLERS, I KNOW WHAT I HAVE.

        • +2

Completely agree. Those who whinge at this type of other's mistakes are usually the ones to blame others for their own errors

        • -2

There were actual fat finger cases in stock markets causing losses of billions of dollars, so in your perspective, it were the counter parties to blame?

My point was ordinary consumer neither had any idea nor should they have any idea why the price was like that or even ever should they care. It's the business offered the price in the first place and dishonored it later. The business(es) have all the info but still proceeded to offer, I personally don't see how it became the problem of the customers to determine if the price is valid or not. Yes, humans make mistakes but also humans learn from mistakes so that similar things don't happen again.

For this case, I cannot tell whether it was a genuine error or deliberately posted clickbait. But for sure I saw quite a few businesses repeating doing exact the same sh*t over past a couple of years. "They may not have the luxury of another to second check their work." was actually something the business needs to take care of.

Pull the sh*t together, admit the mistake if it was really a mistake, and stop blaming the customers.

          • @[Deactivated]:

            admit the mistake and

They did, the rest of your post is you being mad you didn't get to buy something below cost.

            • -1

@dazzawul: Nope. I was just amused by someone trying to cover up and felt pity about people's ability to comprehend what I was talking about. In fact this thread were full of petty business owners did not even will to cover payment processing fees incurred by the so claimed errors.

It's a shame I was casting pearls before swine.
