Excellent price on this 2TB M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD which is available with a chunky heatsink for better heat dissipation or without for only a few dollars less. If you're looking to put this in your PS5, then grab the SSD without the heatsink as the heatsink will be far too big to fit inside.

This SSD offers fast performance with up to 5,600MB/s seg. read and 4,300MB/s seg. write speeds, uses Toshiba 3D TLC NAND flash memory with a Phison E16 controller and 2GB of DDR4 DRAM cache.

Just a heads up that many people reporting only getting 3,500mb/s from PS5. I was thinking of getting one but end up picking up the 980 pro 2TB for $380 without heat sink.

    • This is a deal breaker if true.

    • Source? And are those 1TB or 2TB? Phison E16 is known to be optimised for 2TB.

Mine from last year got 5600+. Doesn't 980 Pro need a firmware patch? Sony appears to use a zero fill sequential test, which isn't really a good test (CS3040 can take advantage of zero fill test).

      • I sidestepped all the above by going for 3 x SN850s, 1 for the PS5 and 2 for the PC.

Plenty of speed test on YouTube. The speed dropped dramatically from the last major PS5 update late last year I think

  • Also the heat sink will fit fine in the PS5 if you choose to use it. You just can’t put the SSD cover plate which is not a deal breaker.

    • Ah that's good to know. I don't have a PS5 so idk how tight it really is.

You should be putting the SSD cover plate on though as it affects the airflow from the fan.

      • According to Sony, but in reality, for those of us getting the one without heatsink, we tend to just buy a cheap heatsink (with el cheapo thermal pads).

      • Yes the PS5 uses negative air pressure. Changes to the internal chambers run counter to the design.

What’s the passenger capacity on this?
