I missed the eBay deal but this is still a killer price for an OLED

Can anyone comment on their experiences with 48" monitors? Isn't it just too big? How far away do you keep it?

    • +1

I tried a 55" TV as a monitor on an 80cm desk. Waaaay too big. I'd imagine you'd need atleast 1.2m distance even for a 48"

    • +2

It's fine as long as you're sitting far enough back. Probably wouldn't go under an 80cm deep desk though.

If you do have a large enough desk, it's great for gaming and productivity.

    • sitting in front of a 43, a 70 on the left as mrs nicked it and a 32 on the right.

      Zero issues

    • It's too big unless you have a very deep desk (90cm or more). Also the auto backlight is a huge negative. If you have a fullscreen window that is bright it'll dim automatically. It can be quite distracting.

      • You could wall-mount it behind the desk.

Is there any reason this monitor would not also make a good TV? (for a 48", short viewing distance).
Just add an Apple/Android/etc TV box. It has hdmi2 as well as DP.

You just need to think through audio and multiple devices a little. Very limited on connecting audio directly to the monitor. An Apple TV can connect direct to the audio output with optical audio but a chromecast or PS5 can't, that'd have to be bluetooth. Not having a remote makes switching devices a little more finicky although it should just switch to whatever is playing most of the time.

Of course, a cheap receiver solves all those issues and lets you use cheap speakers as well, if it was a headache. Nothing insurmountable, just something to think about.

a cheap receiver solves all those issues

This. $350 on Amazon, plus speakers is not cheap compared to a soundbar, but they last forever.

    • Oh I thought this is meant for console gaming?

I guess they will restock the eBay as there are still stocks here. I don’t mind wait a little bit and get the best price from eBay

    • Not necessarily. I have asked similar question of Scorptec during Afterpay sale on gfx cards and the response was that theres fixed allocation for ebay, once it's sold out it's out. Having said that, they did do a restock of 10 additional units on one of the cards. So you may be lucky, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it.

    • FYI it's now sold out in all Vic stores and only in stock for Macquarie Park in NSW.

    cheaper than buying oled tv

    $1050 delivered or no deal

    • on eBay you can also use discount gift card. so it is another 10% off

Just sharing someone's comment on the ebay deal for this monitor… not sure if it's a good buy anymore…

Between the text clarity issues, aggressive ASBL and the shutoff warnings it's clearly not a great choice for general desktop use. Fortunately I think most of us are getting it as a content/gaming TV.

Latest firmware does not have this issue. 2000+ hours as a monitor and enjoying it. Just keep in mind the quirks of brightness limiter and dimming which could be a deal breaker for some.

  • +1

Very good monitor, bought it for 1499 in Feb and really enjoyed my time with it

    • IT HAVE BUG that after you use it for couple of weeks, every time you start it you will see a warning msg, but could get rid of it by clicking anything in your remote
    • +2

Are you on the latest firmware? Mine stopped this after updating.

    • yeah same price everywhere

Umart still have stock in most of their stores -> https://www.umart.com.au/product/gigabyte-48in-uhd-120hz-gam…

  • Wonder if this is a good deal with a google tv dongle. For those that dont watch free to air its super cheap for an OLED.

Just imagine how much LG is making on the c1 if they can sell for literally half the price without losing money!!!

The tv tuner and other gimmicks would cost lg less than $100 on top!

    • +2

Ports on these are limited to 24gbps and only 2 HDMI ports

    • you mean 55" c1 vs this 47"

  • +1

How good are the speakers though?

  • +2

A bit misleading the description as the HDMI ports are limited to 24gbps so won't work at 4k@120hz on PS5: https://youtu.be/UniOmgwna7M

    • What about xbox series x?

    • -1

You're right but you'll never have to worry about 4K@120fps with a PS5.

      • There are a couple titles that I know of which are already capable of 4K@120fps on PS5, those being 'The Touryst' and 'Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom'. I am sure we will see plenty more in the consoles lifetime too.

  • Just got it from Umart at the same price

  • -1

    Just too big

  • Just got shipping confirmation woohoo

  • Damn it, couldn't resist at this price. Not as good as eBay, but still a decent price.

Now to sell my two 32" monitors…

  • I couldn't resist it either. Was going to wait for the LG C2, but gigabyte must be trying to offload stock or something as the C2 is easily going to be double this price. Yes the hdmi is 24gbps, but there are some usability improvements over a tv, e.g the wide set legs, built in kvm.

  • Maybe this used a CX or C1 panel and is EOL?
I tossed up between this or a 48" CX on run out, went the CX & don't regret the purchase for gaming and media consumption. You probably should make sure your eyes are at least 1m away from the screen. I used an ergotron monitor arm to make it much easier to position the screen and to reduce the footprint on my desk.

  • They can't post to a Parcel Locker so they cancelled my order and asked to reorder again. I am not sure why they can't just changed the address to my postal address. Oh well I guess I saved 1050$ for not re buying it.
