What Is Something You'll Never Buy or a Place You'll Never Shop at Based Purely on Their Advertising Campaign?

I despise the Vodaphone ad with that vapid jerk "Dylan" seemingly on every commercial break to the point I will never get a vodaphone plan.

Will never buy Red Bull because I hate their ads.

Will never buy anything Jo Silvagni advertises because I dont like her giant forehead and mouth and tiny beady little eyes.

Robins Kitchens can blow a goat.

Never get a haircut at Stefans because of his old ads on Bert Newton with his silly jingle and pink powerboat.

And finally CITY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: forgot makin mattresses with the stupid woman saying “yes Mr Harvey we sell them you don’t”.

Wasn’t everything grouse at hardware house?

  • people still watch ads - and allow the ads to impact them? How quaint.

    • Ads work, that’s why they’re beamed to the masses. No ads, no FTA TV or commercial radio.

      • I'm not sure that ads work.
I am sure there is a whole industry that convinces business owners that ads work, and that they should 'invest' accordingly.

The only ads I find really annoying are the ones Google pastes over something I need to see or use like the OzB search bar 😠. Although the huge new ads on Gumtree mobile are almost as bad. Want to see the content you’re searching? How about we give you this ad instead. Can’t boycott Google or Gumtree though.

    Step One underwear
Red Bull (doesn’t give me wings)
    Flight Centre
BankWest and their BS “bank stuff”

And the winner for all time is Sushi Hub due to their radio ads:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oX9cOXdi2I4

  • Does anyone know Noel's Caravans? Or Roof Seal? I haven't ever needed them but wow, what ads

    • ARF ARF

    • Have a care - I've seen that seal dancing on South Rd when it was 36 degrees…

  • watch married at first sight on 9now after 11pm. great ads then….

    ME bank
Ridiculously annoying ad and it's put me off entirely

Mazda and their terrible ads - nobody is going to stop what they're doing to stare at your <standard colour> Mazda CX<whatever> because 14 have already gone past in the last 5 minutes

Hardly Normal. not because how they advertise themselves, but because they hardly normal!

  • +10

Gillette - the only ad worse than annoying is a patronising one.

  • I try to live an ad free life as I don't watch FTA. Pi-Hole is my saviour.

    Harvey Norman…
Attitude towards the government business covid support and of course what he did around GST on goods bought O/S

  • F1 ‘Drive to survive’ is the best advertisement Red Bull has ever made!

  • I don't really watch ads.

You're on a site that is purely ads.

  • Gambling sites. Show suckers being suckered.
    And
Pretty unreasonable I know, but anything with Jamie Oliver’s presence, I.e. cookware, cooking show. I have an aversion to the smug little git that is probably unreasonable, but l go with it.

    Gillette, and anything thats 'woke'.

  • Basically everything that is advertised on tv. I can't remember any purchase I've made inspired by an ad. Not unless you count Woolies catalogues and the like but that's only if something is half price.

    • So the advertising is working. All your purchases are a result of subliminal messages you don’t recall.

  • +9

    Gillette

  • OP woke up and chose violence today

Youi. Guy has the worlds most punchable face. Well, maybe second to Greta Thunberg but he's up there.

    • So true, I keep geeting flash backs to the driving scene from True lies where Arnold and Bill Paxton are talking about his wife.

    • Ha ha, awesome 😂

    • +1

I was shopping around for insurance once and tried Youi. Couldn't get a price online. Had to provide my mobile number for someone to call me. What the hell is this? Every other company just gives me a price.

So I wanted to see what would happen. Clicked, and a few minutes later someone called with a price, which was much higher than the competition. 'It's a great price, isn't it?' read the sales droid on the phone. I said no thank you and hung up.

      Youi. We get you. Annoyed.

      • Every time I checked Youi they came in way more expensive than both AAMI and RACV. Either I have cars that their pricing algorithm doesn't like or there are some suckers out there that just go with flashy ads without checking competitors pricing

        • Have a look under the people's names in the ads. Will be something like "only drives to work 3 days a week, where she has secure parking" or similar. It probably works out ok for someone with very specific, low vehicle usage circumstances, it just pisses every else off.

Have to say they are good to deal with as a 3rd party though, had one of their customers hit my wife's car, Youi were great.

  • +3

Harvey Norman. Their advertising is annoying, but the most annoying person is Gerry Harvey himself. A billionaire who popped up in the media regularly crying poor.

Also I avoid advertising whenever possible. Don't listen to commercial radio, pay for Youtube, record TV and skip the ads. Life is too short to spend time watching advertising.

    • +2

OZBargain is literally a site just for advertising.

Aaarghhhh I can't stand it. So annoying I've wiped the company the ad is for out of my head.

  • That kayo ad with Bradbury advertising hair loss product. Pretends it's buffering to get your attention.

Even worse theyll replay it in the same as break

  • Any Bing Lee ads annoy the…. out of me.
    All fake life insurance ads

I remember when Ken was alive… the ads always ended in "I'm Ken Lee, come mee-mar team"

This is pretty shallow. I refuse to shop at some places based on how ethical they are, not due an actor in an ad.

  • Anything that thinks swearing is cool / witty

    Bcf ads etc.

Still buy from those advertisers but just stupid ads

  • As for the Jo silvagni comment -gee that is harsh

    Gillette

  • +7

Gillette. A bunch of woke lobbyists got together and said "How do we relate shaving to toxic masculinity and male shame" and came up with that advert a couple of years ago. Their newer ads aren't bad (the one with the kid who pretends to sing - it's so low budget that it kind of won me over a bit). But being made to feel like toxic masculinity has to be associated with every male product to make behaviours change - try it on someone else, silly advertising agency. You're selling razors (overpriced ones at that), not psychology - and the idiots who support toxic masculinity aren't going to listen anyway!

    • +1

Agree 100%!! And even when I see them products at redicilous cheap prices I stay firm and will never give them a cent again.

Anyone remember 'Rusty Gates' from arrow computers? Or was that just a WA thing?

do you think there's anyway not to be this brainwashed?

  • I will Neve give my custom to western media bc of their advertising narrative of propaganda - I feel ashamed of how the west is acting

  • Natural confectionary company advert with the kid in the car singing like a white rapper…
Every time that annoying advert comes on i mute the tv.
Stopped buying their products because of it too. (:

  • I haven't seen any of the ads the OP speaks of, but I refuse to shop at Harvey Norman.

  • Local funeral director

  • Any charity organisation with heavy advertisements.

  • I'm boycotting Bupa forever over their "cha ching" dental extras ad.

My local Ray White agency. They make contact at least 1-2 times a fortnight, sometimes more. It's been 10 years I've been telling them I don't want to sell.

I will never list my property with them when I do want to sell. In fact I'll ring them up to let them know I'm selling…and listing with someone else.

    • I know real estate agents are mostly scum bags but Ray White inparticular are the worst of them all in my experience

  • Unskippable Hungry Jacks and Budget Direct ads on YouTube

  • I'll never buy tiles from national tiles thanks to bloody Frank Walker.

  • -1

I have stopped paying for my food at woolies now and steal it all…and it's all because of their green greed ads which are annoying and slightly racist plus the guy who opens the fridge to say Mr Goldstein looks like a bloke I used to know that I now want to run over

    • -1

Yeh I flog heaps from there too, anything that can fit in the pocket if fair game.

  • Harvey Norman until they throw out Gerry Harvey and shut the door on his face.

  • Before even opening this thread i thought of the belissimo matress with their "Sorry Mr Harvey, we make them, you dont" ad. Any company that needs to resort to slagging off other companies in their ads is just low and not worthy of my business.

  • Winston with a Y.

    • Why?

      • I just really hate that ad.

        "It's Winston with a Y!"

  • +6

Gillette, will not buy their products, due to their woke campaign in the US. Yes we do see whats going on. I must be a guilty party as I'm white and male.

  • Menulog - a legend in his own lunchbox pushing for slave like conditions for a company formed on the basis of undermining workers conditions as far as possible, and doing so whilst flaunting his lack of any need to eat the garbage displayed.

  • +5

Gillette… their woke campaign was offensive.

  • +4

Have not purchased a Gillette since they went super woke a few years ago, will not purchase one ever again

Try not to spend money on Disney since they essentially killed star wars with Woke crap

Pretty much anything Woke or overly preachy 'socialist' crap i refuse to support - i put social politics in with peoples religious beliefs i dont care what you believe in or support but dont push your sh1t on me

  • +3

Gillette, their "woke" toxic masculinity add was way way too much.

I can't believe NordVPN and Raid: Shadow Legends haven't come up yet.

Covid vaccines and anything related to them, I'm sick to death hearing about them. If they were so safe and effective they'd be selling themselves.

  • I pay such little attention to advertising that I don't even know what most adverts are selling.

  • I'm surprised how normalised being exposed to advertising is, it's all blocked for me.

  • Gloria Jeans as it is associated with Hillsong.

Smeg - I once won $20,000 of the stuff, so chose the most expensive of everything. Just beyond terrible products with continual issues. It was so bad I wont buy anything made in Italy especially products that need parts. A friend bought a Fiat based motorhome a few years ago and it's been nothing but hassles and waiting months and months for parts from overseas, so my buy nothing from Italy that requires parts theory has been vindicated LOL!!

    • I feel your pain with the Smeg appliances. I had about $15k of it in the kitchen, just the worst stuff ever.

    • 😂😂

  • Is the bread Helgas? * starts poking your sandwich unsolicited *
