So i got this phone the other day through a price match at office works, it was $797 in the end.

The phone is rocket compared to my old samsung. It also looks pretty nice and rhe cameras are great.

Now my only issue is: the battery goes very fast.

Apart from that, i do recommend it.

    • +8

So basically the claims about "Long-lasting Intelligent Battery" is rubbish then

      • +1

        Exynos 2100

        • -1

Aussie special, Korean will never give that XXX to Daddy America.

      • +3

Have this phone and can last 15 hours with heavy usage if power saving mode is on.

      • +3

If you have the time there a lot of settings to save battery life, one I use is to have apps shut down completely if no use of app at all after a certain time, so stops these apps running in the background also and also gives the phone a performance boost

  • +1

where did officeworks pricematch against? $797 seems like a good price for an S21 at officeworks, given they have the S20 for $797

    • against here - Amazon

    • +1

I believe Officeworks would price match this exact Amazon listing and beat it by 5%

      • Thats right, thats what they did for me.

  • seems bad when the s22 ultra was 1.2k

    • +5

True. But that is still 50% more. At least for me, I want a good phone, but I am not going to pay over 1k for it.

  • Samsung Exynos processor = no buy

    • +1

The latest MTK is way more better than Exynos.

    • +1

All Aussie S22 models this year are Snapdragon are not they?

I really hate to be that guy but I would not recommend buying this phone due to the following reasons:

    • If you have access to the Samsung education store then you can purchase the S22 for only $100 more. Not a lot extra when you are already spending close to $1k

    • This phone has terrible resale value (most likely due to its awkward release date). A used S21 or new S22 will hold their value much better

    • Terrible battery life
(Even worse then my old iPhone XR. I assume this is due to the Exynos 2100 cpu). Once again strengthens the reason to purchase the S22, since that will come with snapdragon

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad phone. Super quick and snappy with the 120hz and everything, but not worth the price. This at $600 or even $500 if you were lucky to use the trade in deals a couple of months ago is still somewhat justifiable.

    • What would you recommend?

I'm looking at S21, S22, and the Oppo X3 & X5. I can't see that there are huge differences between the older models of the two, so keen to establish whether it's worth paying the extra

      • Like I said, purchase the S22 if you can first. Only purchase S21 if you are comfortable buying used. I wouldn’t go with oppo since I am not a fan of their software, but you can see plenty of comparison videos on YouTube.

    • +5

Not a lot of people have access to the education store

      • I completely understand, but that doesn’t make this a good purchase. There is a reason why it’s discounted down from its RRP of $999

    • +1

I upgrade every year and think the s22 range is not worth it due to it's shortcomings [over an s21]. sd 8gen1 gets hot & battery life isn't great [compared to the s21], the audio isn't as strong as previous gens albeit playing with the settings in dev options can help. The vibration motor is horizontal as opposed to vertical [against the screen] so messages and calls can be missed when the phone is on the table or in the pocket [had friends also confirm this].
I've read 5g isn't as strong on the down but I haven't tested this claim though.

    • I second that. also fromy experience, s21+ is much much snappier than s21fe

    • S22 256 GB was $950 at Education store with news letter.

    • +1

      https://www.sammobile.com/news/exynos-2100-beats-snapdragon-…
Probably needs OS upgrade & some customisation.
You cannot compare iPhone XR (4h charging time) with this 5G (uses more battery for good reason) beast that can charge from 0% in 1h15' (only need 30') & get back on track like formula1 ;)

As an S10 owner looking to upgrade I'm so stuck. I almost went with the S22 or A53 the other week, but seeing the reviews about the Samsung Online store made me not pull the trigger, along with poor battery on the S22? Had a look at the new Oppos and they seem overpriced to me. A52S is an option but it also doesn't feel like enough of an upgrade as I would ideally want a proper camera upgrade as well. I barely do any gaming whatsoever. I feel like the flagship quality isn't really worth the crazy money, but at the same time I want to future proof, as I normally keep my phone 2-3 years. I'm so happy with my S10, if it wasn't for the battery I'd probably hold on to it for another year. Any thoughts? I've looked a bit at Xiaomi as well, but if the cameras are as meh as people say, I probably don't want to go down that route.

    • I think last year's S21 would be good for you. Even an Ultra if you can get a deal.

    • +2

As a current S10 holder, just keep it! Mine does everything great, and if your battery is dying too fast, get a PD powerbank

    • My S10 battery no longer getting me through a day so recently bought the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. My best guess is that the cameras will be comparable, if not slightly worse due to lack of OIS

    • I would just keep the S10. I use a S10 (Snapdragon) and recently got a S22 for my wife. S22 camera is much better and display is slightly better (not noticeable in general use) . But no SDcard slot and 3.5 mm jack. Other than these, they are pretty similar. My S10 got great battery life and performance, recently upgraded to Android 12. Might be different for S10 (Exynos) version.

      • Exynos is shite on these

        • +1

Ah! that must be the case then. Fortunately I got a G9730 dual sim Snapdragon version from a previous deal.

          • @bazingaa: Yeah I have the Exynos version unfortunately :(

    • Get a new S10+ and you will thank me later

    • Same for me. Loved my s10 apart from being Exynos and now the battery is pathetic

  • Phone is not that bad, just bad release timing with S22 out already.
I've moved from S20 to S21FE, and it's pretty much on par if not better. Don't know about gaming, but normal use is fine.
If I had a choice would definitely go to S22 though.

    • +2

Why bad timing the s21 FE has the same s22 security/OS updates end date well 1 month difference over a year shorter with the original s21 or bad timing concerning price? Well it's a lot cheaper then the s22 if ones price concious, i doubt much performance difference to the s22 also👍

      • +1

Price difference about $300 between the two, Exynos vs Snapdragon, otherwise pretty much the same.

        • Well since the s22 is the first mobile to come out with the Snapdragon in Australia, I wonder if there's a noticeable difference between the Exynos in performance, I'm still rocking a 5G Note 10 Plus 512gb mobile (Exynos of course) and still feels fast and smooth since day one, just to get the same 512gb storage capacity with the s22 Ultra just so expensive to consider, well I'm sticking to my usual buying a year old plus previous years phone to save significantly on price, Note 20s Ultras seem to be under $800 for a 256gb varient version though these are nearly 2 year old phones,. though umm the s22 Ultras look so yummy, so tempting lolz

  • does this phone or any new android still have the delayed notification issue? I get notification spam when i lit up the screen from idle for an hour or two.

  • no Vanilla custom roms yet for this but you can get root access to this phone, just no stock android roms yet.

    Hmm, I can get a Apple iPhone 12 64GB for $805.50 at the moment. Surely that’s better value…..and I’m a Samsung guy.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/692778

    • +3

That is a good price, but 64GB is tiny. Be certain that you can survive on that storage before diving in.

      • -1

Not for me, I was just pointing out that this didn’t seem to great a deal. If it’s roughly the same price for the Apple equivalent, it’s not a bargain.

    • +3

Thats bad as all the s21 and s22 range have no sdcard slots with lowest storage of 128gb but 64gb on the iPhone certainly rather an s21/22 128gb version dare I say I'm use to 512gb with a sdcard slot on my 5G Note 10 plus and that has an sdcard slot with a 512gb sdcard, at least with Android phones one can connect an OTG memory stick (life saver,, 256gb are cheap buy multiples of them, solves ones limited storage issue) into the USB-C slot of phone and transfer say 1000s photo files and I'm sure not possible with Iphones, imagine taking phone on a long holiday trip

      No deal Android fanboy lolz

      • Should of said Samsung fanguy, what you thinking even considering an IPhone lolz,..keep away from the light and stay on the dark side, Samsung rocks, not saying I'll say no too a free iPhone mobile, maybe 13 anyone 😉

    • +1

Once you are out samsung is bright world.
Apple or any other andriod flagship phones are much better choice.

      • -1

Without Samsungs UI and Samsungs better hardware other Android mobile phones are just boring phones (not as boring as Iphones), the UI especially the UI 4.1 and over what makes a Samsung phone so great and bonus if one owns a Note series Samsung mobile, like me, though most people just wants a phone and have no idea of all the great features Samsungs UI offers

Anyway my 2 cents lolz 👍😁

        • Agreed. Google is basically copying OneUI feature after feature for their Android software. Without Samsung, Google wouldn't know how to create software if it smacks them in the face.

      • I still have an S21 Ultra and it’s superb. I’ve had iPhones but I certainly can’t see me going back to them.

If you have ample cloud storage, 64GB is fine for most people. My point is that this doesn’t seem too great a deal, in my eyes.

  • +2

For comparison, the S21 was about $400 after massive trade-ins/vouchers. I'm going to wait for that moment again

    • Yeah I think I ended up paying $429 in total for my S21 256gb

      • Hi wondering which deal did you take for your S21 256gb?,. is this mentioned through Ozbargain by chance if so have an Ozbargain weblink? All I remember last year deals was the first Telstra day offer and got the S21 256gb version for $672 no trade-in offers,.. but then around the same time there were trade-in deals with Samsung directly (also student, edu, business?) I think Jbhifi, Telstra and others had great trade-in trade-in deals also around the same time, haven't really seen any aggressive deals for the s22 as the s21 deals last year, crazy to pay RRP prices that's for sure 🤪😝😁👍

        🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

        • It was with Samsung, stacking some vouchers and also trading in an iPhone 7 (which I never sent as it was my missus's phone!!).

Was it this one not quite sure there have been so many https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672768 - oh, actually that is for the S21+ but it was a very similar deal.

  • I think its better to get the s22 with trade in voucher(might be even cheaper)

  • anyone know how to get S20 refurbish for under $500? Been looking for a while

  • No eSim on S21fe as opposed to a normal S21. eSims are very handy as travel sims.

  • Kogan has the dual sim HK version with Snapdragon 888 5G and 8GB RAM for $768.99.
