Trade up app is only valuing my iPhone 11 at $95

    • +10

You don’t have to send it in and about 3 weeks later they will take the $95 off your credit card for not sending it in. You keep all the other bonuses though n

      • They want to photograph your licence in though

        • +1

someone mentioned in the Z fold thread that the old app does not ask for a DL. it was downvoted though - no idea why

          • @kehuehue: LOL WOW, wish i saw this comment

        • +5

Someone mentioned you can take a photo of anything. I have tested taking a photo of a post it note with scribble and it accepts it. Received a trade in code afterwards

          • +4

@Magicmagic: Sent a photo of random stuff also
( sorry no one get my licence unless I am watching)

            • +2

@snappy1234: Seems like Asurion will start to see a lot of random household photos if they try to chase people down later on

          • +1

@Magicmagic: I wish I could read your comments when I bought my flip3 yesterday!!

          • @Magicmagic: LOL WOW, wish i saw this comment

        • +12

I read someone took a photo of their dog's butt and their order went through without any hiccups

          • @daemon: they only want a copy of your licence as this government legislation for purchase of 2nd hand equipment - similar to cash converters. it just helps them track if things are stolen.

if you don't plan on sending your phone in take a photo of anything as it has no purpose.

    • That doesn't sound right. I had a iPhone X valued at $190.

    • Trade up app is only valuing my iPhone 11 at $95

      I'll give you $96

my trade up code isnt working, do others have same problem

    • +3

If you have a spare few weeks, have a read of the thread yesterday for Samsung, will tell you all you need to know

    • It's been like this since forever. Some of us slaves have been sitting in front of Samsung websites since yesterday afternoon. I spent at least 6 hours altogether addressing countless issues and the code is still not working in the end

      • +1

Delete app, restart phone. And get new code. If imei is used before, code will be generated but will not work.

        • +1

Yes you are right. That was one of the issue yesterday, then after reinstalling the Trade Up app, the app says the device is ineligible for trade in even when it is.

Anyway I have already gone past this step, a Trade Up ID has been generated.

The problem now is we can't put in the code on Samsung website. The error (since yesterday) was "Due to an error, trade in service is unavailable"

Not sure if it is already working now as I lost interest after the S21U deal expired yesterday

Not to also mention the extremely challenging task to get a $50 sign up bonus.. It is very frustrating

Edit: I misclicked below - I'm not associated with Samsung 😅

          • @b0b0: I thought I'd try but am getting same error as you that trade in service is unavailable at the moment. Got the code ready to go as well.

            • @jace88: my lesson learn is get ready with all the codes: Trade-up code, Newsletter code, EDS/CDS code whichever you can get for now. Instead of everyone rushing in on the Deal-day and lining up to talk to Live Chat but just to have the chat room forced closed after

Then pray for the next deal to come! (looks like they come pretty often these days..)

              • @b0b0: And they'll come more often as the new S22 range release date gets closer

                • @mandelbrot: Thanks for that. You really cheer up my day 😁

          • @b0b0: yeah I gave up on the sign up bonus, couldnt be f'ed as I tried with 4 separate emails and waiting for a manual reply as well and nothing

            • @Duplicity: I tried with Hotmail and Gmail they don't work. I just tried with my work mail and also Protonmail <— both of these work in one go.

I am now waiting for the next deal to come!

        • +3

You don't have to delete the app and restart the phone, it will work after clear the app data.
Edit: I mean the code will be generated.

      • -1

6 hrs, wow, have you thought of driving to their office in olympic park ? car pool ? ha ha ha
p.s I have been getting the same error as you since y'day "Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment"
<[email protected]> tried this but haven't anything back yet

  • +26

How about offering these phones at these prices without the nonsensical trade-in hoops they make people go through, given it seems people dont send their traded phones in anyway.

    • +19

I'll pass your valuable insights to Samsung's CEO.
      Thanking you kindly,

    • I agree.. it's non sense.

    • +4

Market segmentation. They still sell millions of them at full price.
The hoops are enough to discourage rich people, bet get sales from people not willing to pay Apple prices.

  • I got one of those 2 weeks ago. good phone. was trying to trade up to S21 ultra yesterday with no luck due to fkin trade in service error that won't go away

    samsung ozbargained

    • Same here. This deal would be cheaper if $100 and $50 could be used and stacked up :D
Agree on that S21 Ultra deal, it was a good deal

  • How do we get past the credit card info page on the trade in app! Tried on multiple days with multiple cards - no luck.

    • I had the same problem, i cleared cache/data app then i uninstall. Download app again and it worked.

  • Can we claim price protection? Bought it from deal before with vouchers and still cost more than this

    • I tried a while ago with ANZ without any luck, you might have better luck with other card providers

  • Have an overseas S9 that the Trade In App doesnt like. Any other good deals around?

  • +3

My trade in code won't work either. Samsung claim no responsibility and direct you to the phone trade in company Ausiron or whatever it is called.

I strongly believe Samsung know exactly what's going on and happy to keep it that way just to drive traffic to the website on the assumption a certain percentage of people will still follow through with a purchase.

I've signed up to the $50 newsletter code under 10 different email addresses and only received the discount code under 2 of them.

The phone trade in bonuses are very attractive but a decent portion of people can't even trade in their perfectly compatible phones, me included.

    Seems very dodgy

    • -1

      What email providers worked?

      • A Gmail address and a work email

  • +1

What I am puzzled with is how the S21 is more expensive than the Flip3. Am I missing something in the pricing hierarchy of Samsung phones nowadays?

    • +1

Maybe. the fold 3 is the expensive one. Flip 3 was supposed to be priced the same as the S21+. Aside from the fold, it is missing the telephoto lens, and has a much smaller battery.

      • True. Even the Fold 3 has come down significantly due to both reduction in RRP and some earlier sales than expected (I bought my Fold 2 for $2300ish about this time last year).

    • They're trying to become the dominant player in flip phones before Apple gets in with their rumoured iFlip in 2023/24.

      • Too much FPT

        • You can never have enough Fah Pah Tah 😁

  • Yesterday when I was entering my trade up code it was thinking for 30 seconds + before telling me there was an error. Now it comes instantly.

  • I got screwed over by Ausiron. Basically they revalued my phone at $0 once they got it and charged my CC. (profanity).

    • +1

hope you got your phone back from them

    • how much did they charge you?

      • +1

Full amount quoted for the phone $130 (which is nothing really). I could have just not sent it in and sold my phone for more but I figured this would be the less hassle approach :|

    • +6

Try a dispute with your bank.

      https://ibb.co/LRLmXJb

They did this to me too on my Note 9, 512GB . Took a while but i got my money back.

      • I was thinking about that but won't they pursue you for it?

        • No, i got all the evidence like pictures, tracking number, communication messages etc.

The rest ANZ took care of everything.

    • +1

They tried this on me too.
I sent them the photos of my phone that were taken before I sent it and did a chargeback through the bank.
They then said that the data wasn't cleared! They must have time on their hands but it was clear they had mine confused with somone else's.
      Got my money back.
      Clowns.

      • i'm going through the making a lot of noise about it route atm. including contacting Samsung (who will probably wash their hands of it). Unfortunately I didn't think to take photos before sending.

        • Just keep going back to Ausurion. Bank chargeback or fair trading.
          Bank will be faster though.
They tried the "didn't clear data" excuse, which would not have been shown on photos.
Factory reset would fix that - I sent them instructions how to do that in case they were unable to work that out.
They just didn't want to honour the trade in.

Samsung will say nothing to do with us.

          • @wetwork: They got back to me with photos of a different phone with cracks on the screen…..really wish I took photos of my phone first now..

            • @arcticjuggernaut: They really are clowns - the IMEI mismatch will verify they are looking at the wrong phone.
Don't know why a reputable company would deal with them.

  • +3

So I've just put my S20+ 5G into trade value to see what it said and it gave $185

    So am I right in saying the price would for S21 Ultra 5G $1,349 - $500 - $185 = $664 for purchase for S21 5G 128GB?

    And if I don't send the phone back I'd pay the $185 so total $664 + $185 = $849?

    • -1

Yes, they will only charge you the trade up value.

      • Are there any other discounts that can be stacked?

        • Sign up bonus + loyalty discount. But seem hard to get now.

        • Depends on your level of patience and overall blood pressure, but yes you can get another $250 off. 50 for newsletter and 200 for loyalty

    • +1

Currently that question is null and void as the trade-in process is broken, no one can currently complete it.

  • +1

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the trade up app, created a new trade-up ID and I'm still receiving an error. What the hell is wrong with Samsung's website at the moment.

    • try clearing app data and cache (if on android)

      • still having the same issue unfortunately

    • Same here been trying since 6pm yesterday till now (I worked night shift), even new code not working for me.

  • +2

Anyone managed to enter the trade up ID in their website? Keep getting this since yesterday (same error as few minutes ago):
Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment

    • Same problem for me since yesterday.
This bonus expires in 20 days and hopefully they fix it by then!

  • another day another samsung deal

  • +1

Tried 2 trade-in IDs still "Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment"

    • +1

      Did everyone upload their licence?

      • yep

      • Yes. You have to upload your licence

      • Someone mentioned you can take a photo of anything. I have tested taking a photo of a post it note with scribble and it accepts it. Received a trade in code afterwards

        • Yeah though they still got your bank details

  • Wa da faaaaark is wrong with the tradeup system!!!!! Aaarrghhhhh

  • yeah the ID system isn't working, I have a TradeUp ID from the app on my phone, but can't go any further.

  • +9

!!! Below response from Asurion !!!!

Unfortunately, it looks like there might have been an error with this trade-up id. We will cancel the below mentioned trade-up id (All previous) so that you can generate a new one and complete the trade-up process. Please note that it can take up to 2-3 business days for it to be cancelled. Please wait for 2-3 days before generating a new Trade-Id.

When submitting your order on the Samsung website if the trade Id has been used once and if you close the web browser or exit from your shopping cart then you may experience some issues. This may also be caused if multiple Trade-Id have been created for the same device.

Please note after entering the Trade-id your order must be completed at checkout to avoid same system error as the Trade Id are one time use only.

    • +1

      Good work Nookie.

    • Make sense… Damn

    • +3

So if not for having tried to trade up before (even if not proceeded) then we would be able to order?

EDIT: Tried it on my iPhone 12 (which I haven't ever tried to trade in before) and it also had the same error.

    • +1

What a load of bollocks. The problem is with the tradeup system, not individual IDs. Asurion is just trying to shift the blame to the customers.

  • So has anyone gotten a response from [email protected] regarding the trade-up errors?

Every time I enter my trade ID in the checkout process, it comes back with an error saying “Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment”

This has been happening for over a month.

I did generate trade ID about 6 months ago but didnt go ahead with the purchase or trade. It seems based on the chatter that this is what is now preventing me trading the phone.

Samsung sales and support are zero help. They just say to email [email protected]

    • Read above.

    • +1

Nope doesn't make a difference IMO if you've tried to trade in before or not. Just tried it with a new(ish) iPhone that I haven't tried to trade in ever before and still get same error.

      • +1

        She is working now.

Got an email response from [email protected] saying they were doing maintenance. My existing trade ID worked fine after I got the email. Have finally purchased the phone.

  • Is anyone's trade up ID actually working today?
